thank you in advance and you do not have to respond
I went to the ortho and saw my MRI results. He recommended physical therapy to strengthen my core muscles---which riding does. I have MS so I have to be monitored carefully with the ball----have one at home too. I will learn some proper exercises, but therapy does not start until mid-March. He wants me not to ride for 3 weeks-------I dunno if I can go that long..............;-) Thanks for yor suggestions! Lea
I need some help with a back problem and a possible brace to help it. I cannot give up riding! Do you now anything out there to help? Thanks much, Lea
I can understand you not wanting to give up riding. I'm sure someday my knees will forbid me from running anymore and i don't know how i'll go with that.
From what i've learnt at uni is to avoid back braces. Long term the muscles become dependent on it, so when it's removed the spine isn't as stable. This is where abdominal exercises for core stability come in. So NOT sit-ups, but pilates, fit-ball exercises that work on spinal stability are best.
If you have to give up riding for a short while then do so. Can you swim instead? Or walk to continue aerobic exercises.
What you need to do is see someone who can give a diagnosis and recommendations as to what you can and can't do. You may have to limit certain things for a while. But make sure you keep moving. Don't get into the habit of saying my back is sore so i won't exercise this week. Big, big no no. The back needs to stay strong.
If there's anything else let me know. If it's causing too many problems then see a physical therapist.
