Welcome to the Wiki Page!

I have an actual website that I've been working on, believe it or not, and you can get there if you click HERE.  However, since you are currently here on The Wiki Page, I'll share with you some of the latest. :)

and and

I have written about 20 full-length novels, but many of them were just "lessons" in how to write a novel, since I never took a writing course in my life (and don't intend to, thank you).  Of the few that I feel are worthy of publication, only two have been published and two more sit here at home, waiting for me to get busy and send them off to an agent.

CURRENTLY, I'm working on an historical fiction set in the first half of the 19th Century.  A romance, of course. :)

PLEASE NOTE:  I have decided to clear out the comments section of the wiki page.  I just feel like there are notes all over the floor or something and so it's time to clean.  Nothing personal, nothing specific, I just feel like it.

Here's a favorite scene I drive by near my home:

A wikipedia page,as I understand it, is a place where things are defined and explained. I shall have to ponder what to define about me, but here's a beginning:

Name: Sandi Layne
Origin: First name courtesy of my mother, who knew people with the name "Sandy" in school, and who wanted her daughter to have a more fun and unique spelling of this name. Last name courtesy of the father of my husband, of course.;)

Screen name: sandyquill
Origin: I adopted this while I still lived in Arizona. "sandy" is for the sand of the desert, where I lived, and the beaches, where I was born (as a native of Southern California beaches and deserts). I kept it because out here in Southwest Florida, sand is still very much a part of my daily life. "quill" is because I have a goosequill pen collection, and I love to write, of course.

Location: Southwest Florida, one air mile from the bank of the Caloosahatchee River.

Family: Married to Spousal Unit for 15 years. We have two sons, aged 13 and 6. Spousal Unit is an in-home service/craftsman for an upscale furniture store.  Cyclone, my elder son, is in the eighth grade.  Cartoon Ranger, my younger son, is officially a Kinder-kid. My family (parents and sibs) are in Tennessee. Spousal Unit's family (parent and sibs) are spread from California to Maryland. We all used to live in Riverside County, California.

Educational background: Masters in Ministry with an emphasis in Christian Education, 1993. Teaching Certificate from California. It isn't valid any longer...but I remember each day of the earning. Bachelors in English with a concentration in Shakespeare and in Grammar. Never an honors student, I always did well enough and held down two to four concurrent jobs during my undergrad years.

Employment background: Started working for someone else at age thirteen in retail stock and sales. Other employment included real estate secretary, stationery department manager for a local store, electronics manager for another one, department store security, data entry for a video warehouse, reception and escrow work, teaching, substitute teaching, being a church secretary, Christian Education Coordinator Intern, Youth and Children's Ministry Director, and, oh, yes, freelance writer and editor. I also write novels and short stories.

Favorite places to abide
: MindSay, Windtoss Weyr, Google News, and in the sunshine.

Oh, and here is a sample of very bad poetry, to remind people that we have stunning poets here on MindSay (karamac and poetpen come to mind immediately) and I am not in that company. I do like this verse I wrote about an historical character I'm using in my next Eire Viking novel.

The Norwegian King of Eire
by Sandi Layne

The wasted white was not enough
So I took my men and went raiding.
Over the waves, on longships tough,
We hit the coasts, monks upbraiding.

Éire was my goal, my destination,
I opted to stay there a while.
It wasn't enough just to live in the nation
I wanted to rule it -- with style.

I conquered the kings, large ones and small
And set up my capital city.
Dublin is what they call it these days and all --
In the ninth century it wasn't so pretty.

Tuirgeis am I, from Norway far
They call me a tyrant in books.
I ruled well, if not long, and on par
But those Irishers...well, they were crooks.

They lured me away from my stronghold.
They took me away from my wife.
They brought me out to the cliffs of old,
And there, they then took my life.

But they will never take my name.
They will never take my story.
From Norway to Éire, I came,
And I enjoyed the power and glory.

While it lasted.

While I am fully aware that you are a "big girl", for lack of better terms, & capable to shrug insults off your back, I just feel compelled to reassure you that not everyone thinks the same way that boyscout does. He gives my age demographic a terrible name, and on his behalf, I am very sorry that he told you those things. I cannot believe the nerve & audacity of him to not only say but continue on his little rampage. You & your family seem like great people to me. I hope that his words do not ruin your day.

You are such a gentleman, sir. I thank you.    That fellow damages my opinion of no one save his own self.  Obviously, as dear Myclette said, he's a miserable fellow, to have to cast aspersions on total strangers as he does.

I thank you.   You truly are, from everything I've seen of you, worthy of the title "gentleman." Not everyone is.

Hey Sandy, I just wanted to let you know that I posted some pictures of the wildflowers that have blossomed here in Phoenix so far this season and I figured you'd enjoy seeing them.  See ya!

Re: Sandyquill's Wiki Page
i have a question for you.  i have just read the latests mindsay "news" talking about a reality show where a guy worked for an autism foundation and on the show, called the children "retards" and then said he could call them whatever he wanted since he worked with them.

to me, that's absolutely unacceptable.  and i'm sure that it's unacceptable for you too... that's not my question.

i guess my question is, as a parent of a child with autism, how does something like that make you feel?  i mean, not having a child with disabilities, not having a child at all, makes me both outraged and sad.  so i'm just interested in how it effects someone that has first hand involvement.

Re: Sandyquill's Wiki Page
I feel the guy exposed himself as an ignorant, classless individual.  Personally, I don't even expend energy being mad; my anger would affect him not at all, eh?

Re: Sandyquill's Wiki Page
i wondered if you'd say something similar.  like... i thought, "maybe because sandi has dealt with this for this many years, it's old news to her and doesn't phase her... because she knows there's idiots in the world, and always will be."
