Re: Misterskank's Wiki Page
I applied for a job as a secondary bible studies teacher. Just thought I'd tell you cause we discuss religion a lot.

Have you ever seen Jet Li's Fearless?

Re: Misterskank's Wiki Page
No, I haven't. But I'm sure you'll make an unusual and interesting teacher of bible studies! Wish I could listen in.

Robert, do you or Denise know this guy? He won a "genius grant."

Yes, we sure do, Adam! He's a friend of Denise's in the small circle of letterpress printers and I've met him a couple of times in the company of my wife. Hey, why don't you or I win one of these things, eh? In our dreams, in our dreams! Oh, and thanks for writing my mom—you are really sweet to her and she and I are both deeply indebted to you for your kindness. Bowing deeply, Bob.

Doesn't say much for our "cultural development" over last 80 years. Rather depressing.

Re: Misterskank's Wiki Page
Yes, sometimes I see it that way, but then I also see that the young people in my classes are so accepting of people of color and of gays than they once were. These wars are now actually turning them off, yet eight years ago they were gung ho.

Re: Misterskank's Wiki Page
You're a history buff. Are there any objective studies or research that compares war activity during different periods of time? Are nations getting less or more violent, I wonder? Are we getting better or worse with each generation?

Re: Misterskank's Wiki Page
In that letter by Freud (if you read the whole letter at the link) he says that wars have gotten less frequent but that they are now bigger and more devastating—and he wrote that before WW2! I don't think humans have become less selfish or less violent; but we have become more aware of the whole, meaning the planet and the species and the interconnections. I remain hopeful. In my job I can see daily that it is possible to learn and change for the better. But I try not to look too far ahead or get too grandiose in my hopes—one mind at a time.

Well, there's at least two of us. It's a start!

You and I, and I think there are over fifty now in my little International Pacifist Conspiracy on Facebook, Ron, and it would make me glad even if it were only you and me. What is the Christians sing sometimes? "Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me." I like that.

Re: Misterskank's Wiki Page
So, I took yours and Whatethelsays's advice, and I searched high and low... but not too far, and submitted for publication the story about the boy I had a crush on for most of my childhood. I added a little more to it, changed the title to "Julian" and e-mailed it to a publishing company that was accepting submissions for a book of short stories. Two cuts have been made, and e-mails were sent. I didn't get an e-mail either time... sooooo.... I'm guessing I'm about to have a published short story. (I've written lots of newspaper articles that made it to the first page-focal, if not the full first page, of the Features section, but never something published in a book. This feels different, better.) I'm waiting for some kind of indication of what I'm suspecting is actually true. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Misterskank for helping lead a horse to water!
