I lived in Gilroy briefly (not terribly far from Santa Cruz), in 2003 and again in '06, but Oregon is where it's at.

I go fishing down there though when I want to catch some mercury loaded bass (cottage grove lake and dorena were both mercury mines that they flooded, REAL HEALTHY)

 

I can't really talk though, I grew up outside of Vida (40 minutes east of springfield up the Mckenzie river), lots of rednecks in my direct genetic lineage.

I wanted to respond more privately about the post on feeling hurt by the horrific insensitive post about service folks.  That same person did something to really hurt me a couple of months ago, and had no information to back it up.  I am most likely old enough to at least be his mother, if not his grandmother.  It was very hurtful.  When speaking with my son (36 and does computer work for a living, hence has been on things like Myspace, etc.) he said to me "Mom, some people go onto blog sites SPECIFICALLY to cause conflict and pain."  He counseled me to let it go.  I hope this is of some comfort to you.  And also, to let you know, I am holding your brothers in my heart.  While I don't go along with the war, I have a family member in Iraq also.  But yes, I hold it against the leaders, not the service folks.  Blessings.

You are very right. I reacted with anger, and I'm over it now, somewhat, because he's just a sad pathetic man talking shit on the internet (weak). Thank you for your kind words! and may your family member in Iraq come home safe!

I hope your family is all safe also.   I just read a little more of your blog and my heart goes out to you in your medical crises.  What a time to have had something like this happen.  See him as a gnat just trying to eat away at you, and just bat him right off your skin.  As I said, blessings...
