LGBT Books: (mostly recommended by me and ceara )
Tipping the Velvet, Sarah Waters. This book takes place in the late 1800's in London. It's about a young woman who follows a male impersonator to London for her stage act. Of course she gets her heart broken, but love wins in the end. Verdict: 10 - Top read. (Also by Sarah Waters Fingersmith 10, Affinity 8, Night Watch 8)
Anything by Claire McNab - Carol Ashton mysteries, Denise Cleever mysteries, Kylie Kendall mysteries. The stories can be bit weak in places but the heroine is always a lesbian. Verdict: 6-7.
Stone Butch Blues, Leslie Feinburg. For those of you not familiar with the gay/lesbian struggle this book is historical in nature. Verdict: Not yet read.
RubyFruit Jungle, Rita Mae Brown. This book is about a girl (of course) who is pretty spicy and isn't ashamed of being a lesbian. It follows her from childhood to adult hood. Verdict: Not yet read.
The Passion of Alice, Stephanie Grant. This is a story about a bi-curious/bisexual who while in the hospital meets another bisexual woman who is also in recovery. Verdict: Not yet read.
Alma Rose, Edith Forbes. This book is about a woman who falls in love with a truck driver and carves her effigy (the truck drivers) in a rock. Verdict: Not yet read.
The Front Runner, by Patricia Nell Warren. It's about a gay track coach who falls in love with one of his athletes that wants to run in the Olympics. Verdict: Not yet read.
Some other good reads recommended by ceara are anything by Augustin Burrows, and David Sedairs. Those two authors have a great sense of humour, and aren't as heavy as some of the other books.
Other Books:
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenfegger. Verdict: 9
