Really, after my first tour of teaching English in China [1991-92], the cultural shock I experienced upon my return was far, far greater when I got back home to Michigan than it was upon my arrival in and becoming accustomed to living in the chaos, filth and the madness of Shenyang Province of Manchuria.
 
Shenyang then was a city of about 11 million people. I believe half or more had no running water to their homes nor toilets or sewer system. In many places human sewage was pumped out of holding tanks of public toilets and trucked away to fertilize farms in some cases.

 

Otherwise it was dumped into rivers, lakes and streams or dumped on open barren land as a means of disposal.
 
 Back home we do not do that, of course.
 
There we allow the human sewage to steal presidential elections, usurp our constitutional rights and deny civil liberties while allowing it, by design and with gleeful intent, to squander our accumulated national wealth, drive our ecomomy into bankruptcy and lie us into a illegal war with multiple disastorouis effects, results and long term negative impact on my beloved country's security and international reputation.
