Hmmm...just saw your profile and I am originally from Philadelphia, though I have been living in California for over 34 years. I used to live right above the U.ofP. in Philadelphia - Powelton Village. But from your post, I understand there is now another campus? And I guess I have to watch out for my grammar and punctuation;~)
Philadelphians seem to be all over the place, I see.
Do you miss anything about the city in particular? I don't actually live in Philadelphia, but in the suburbs west of the city... still considered the "greater Philadelphia region," I suppose. And as far as I know, Penn hasn't introduced another campus. Could be wrong, though.

In regards to the grammar and punctuation, as long as there isn't an abundance of "netspeak" - "L8R" for "later," etc. - in your posts, then the hairs on the back of my neck won't rise, haha.
Don't worry about the Netspeak - I'm too old for all that. I went to Temple U. in 1963!!!!
What do I miss about Philadelphia? Not much. My mother's family was from Berks County, and I love it there. I miss Pennypack Park - can you believe? And Fairmount. And I miss some of the foods like cheesesteaks, but that's not how I eat these days anyway. And oh yes, I very occasionally miss butter cakes from German bakeries. Sometimes, very very occasionally, I miss my birth family (what is left).
I actually moved to Iowa my first year in college, in 1962 and have pretty much been away from the city since then. I came back from 63 through 66 and was at Temple U. then, and then went into the domestic peace corps in Alaska, coming back after that to work with AFSC (Quakers) in downtown Philadelphia while living in Powelton Village, which was really nice then. In 1967-68 I lived there again for a short time, but since then I went to Ann Arbor, Michigan and then back out here to California.
I am one hour north of San Francisco and in the middle of Sonoma County wine country. I'm 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean near Bodega Bay where The Birds was filmed by Hitchcock. And I'm 20-30 minutes from redwoods forests. Going towards the east, the coastal mountain are very near, but the Sierras are around 4 hours away. I couldn't get all those wonderful places in Philadelphia.
And oh yes, from your profile, I thought you had been attending U.ofP. in another area. What was your major? My grandfather graduated from Wharton, a looooong time ago.

Wow, you've been all over the place. You've listed a few places I've always wanted to visit (Alaska, Michigan, San Francisco), but haven't gotten to yet. Someday.
I attended West Chester University for college, and graduated in 2005. I was a Communication Studies major, which everyone thinks is a cake major, but it really isn't. I worked my butt off all four years, and because communication is an essential part of every job, I can go pretty much anywhere with my degree. I'm working for a large company that provides software to colleges and universities around the world, but I couldn't tell you the first thing about what the software actually does. My expertise is in editing.
You have a good job. Communications is a fantastic major. We were fortunate too that our life skills were transferable. My husband wound up working at the local university here as Director of Academic Personnel. I started in library work at Temple, and wound up in Population Planning in Ann Arbor, and then I worked with Quakers, setting up workcamps around the country for high school and college young people.
With your skills, you CAN travel to all those places. Alicestreet (here on Mindsay) and I were in Alaska back when it was a wild and wooly place for young women. We loved it!!!
