Most stable Isotope 244Pu
Only occurs in nature in negligible amounts, due to its unstable nature. Forms in Uranium ores by the decay of Uranium, and itself decays further, keeping the amount found in ores to a minimum.
The reactant of choice for nuclear weapons, it nevertheless has a sort of 'stale date', as the Plutonium decays into stable isotopes, both decreasing the mass of reactant and pushing the Plutonium pit further away from critical mass. This can be remedied by putting extra explosive charges seeded with Germanium (unsure) on the outside of the pit to increase the force of the trigger charges, as well as sending charged particles into the pit to jumpstart fission.
In addition to utilities as weapons, Plutonium is one of the many types of fuels that can power new CANDU nuclear power plants.
