Luther Standing Bear Oglala Sioux 1868-1937

"The American Indian is of the soil, whether it be the region of forests, plains, pueblos, or mesas. He fits into the landscape, for the hand that fashioned the continent also fashioned the man for his surroundings. He once grew as naturally as the wild sunflowers, he belongs just as the buffalo belonged...."

GREAT SPIRIT PRAYER

(Chief Dan George, Salish, British Columbia, 1899-1981)

O Great Spirit
Whose voice I hear in the winds
And whose breath gives life to all the world
Hear me
I come to you as one of your children
I am small and weak
I need your strength and your wisdom
May I walk in beauty
Make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset
Make my hands respect the things that you have made
And my ears sharp to hear your voice
Make me wise so that
I may know the things you have taught your children
The lessons hidden in every leaf and rock
Make me strong so that
Not to be superior to my brothers
But to be able to fight my greatest enemy
Myself
Make me ever ready to come to you
With straight eyes
So that when life fades as the fading sunset
My spirit
Will come to you without shame

Re: Americanindian's Wiki Page
I just goy my weekly email from my favorite NPR station which serves Northern New York State, Western Vermont and  borderland eastern ontario.

This weeks slide show was on a museum I had not heard of and I wondered if you knew about.
Here is a link
http://www.northcountrypublicradio.org/news/nativebaseball/nativebaseball.html#   it is about an exhibit on Natives in Baseball.

NPR  has a show called  " Only A Game" and this Saturday the feature story is on this.

Public radio in Canada, USA and Australia is my major interest after Mindsay

Hi Joy, It's Caluna under a new name - Ubu13. I'd be delighted if you could add me once more as your friend. I am now screening comments, due to the problems the last time around (with harassment). Please delete this message after you receive it. I'll add you.
BTW, I am horrified about those "native American" barbies. Every time I think I have seen just about everything, I am once more surprised. I have a real Yupik Eskimo doll, made by a Yupik woman, and she doesn't look anything like that Barbie.

Thanks, Ubu13

Re: Americanindian's Wiki Page
I could just about explode.

I just spent an hour trying to write my first post for Native Spirits and accidentally did something that cause me to lose it.

When I do that i can never rewrite it at that time because I feel I have given all.

I will rewrite it in the morning.

I asked them to invite 4 friends to the community. You and Amanda  ( Little Cauldron) from Mindsay and two friends from my past who are involved in the native community in Ottawa.  Amanda has Cherokee blood and is a history student. She was my first Mindsay friend and one of the 20 year old geniuses. I just got a note from native Spirits to say she had joined.  Here is their address.  http://nativespirits.ning.com

I am leary of telling all of Mindsay about this. I can imagine telling Shadeofgrey ,Caluna, Spice etc but there are many I find to be be like static on the radio. I know that may sound impolite but there are some people who just like to hear their and their constitutions voice talk. I don't want them pissing in the fresh water.
