The Barbie-doll

Barbie isn't only the favorite of small girls, but also a very popular collector item. Since it's debut in 1959, Barbie has transformed into various of styles and looks, giving a different type of history lesson. Throughout Barbie's history, she's been at the top of the little girls wish lists, and for some of us, she returned after wild teen-age years.

There are different type of Barbie collectors. Some of us collect vintage Barbie, meaning any doll that was created before 1973, some collect modern Barbie, which is after that. Some collect only Silkstone, a line of Barbie-dolls manufactured with the same mold as the first Barbie-dolls. Some collect only certain dolls in the collector line, and then there's collectors, who take anything that says "Barbie" on top of the box. Some of us leave the dolls into the box and never even touch the doll, but some of us free the dolls out of their boxes and actually play with them, redress and display them.

There's tons of things you can do with Barbie. You can of course redress them and play with them, but you can also make clothes for them, design your own or buy patterns made by companies like Vogue. You can build doll houses, elaborate or modest, plastic or high quality wood, just the way you want. You can photograph Barbies, but it doesn't end there. For those who are more the do-it-yourself-type, there's even more options. You can repaint the doll's make up, and reroot the hair - actually change the hair on the doll! The hair is sold online, it takes patience to put in, but it's often worth the trouble. This way you can either restore dolls or renew them, customize them to your liking. Some of these OOAK "One Of The Kind" dolls are selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay - in case you'd be interested of making money by doll art.
