Samurai Champloo

PARENTAL WARNING: Samurai Champloo is rated "TV-MA" for extreme graphic violence, strong coarse language, and some sexuality, nudity, and drug use. The show is highly recommended for ages 17 and older.

Samurai Champloo is a manga/anime that takes place during the Edo period in Japan. The story focuses on 3 main characters: Mugen, Jin (pronounced like "jean"), and Fuu. They're on a quest in search of the "samurai that smells of sunflowers."

Mugen:

Age: 19
Born: Ryukyu Islands (criminals were occasionally sentenced for their crimes, he was, in fact, raised by one)

Not you typical Japanese swordsman. He's vulgar, rash, and lewd. He definitely makes the show more humorous than the other characters.

His sword style is much different than the other samurai that appear in the series, but that doesn't mean he's not dangerous. Not only does he use his sword, but he uses his legs as well. This, along with his speed and agility, make him very deadly.


Jin:


Age:20

The traditional samurai. He's quiet, and composed. When compared to Mugen, he's more up tight, but when Mugen goes to a brothel, he usually comes too. He's being chased now and then by various samurai for one reason: he killed his sword master.

Jin is a force to be reckoned with. Unlike Mugen, Jin learned to fight from a dojo. His sword strokes are lighting quick (in the anime, there is blue lightning that follows his blade...just for show) and his speed is parallel to Mugen's.

There is a rivalry between Mugen and Jin. Mugen seeks a worthy foe, and when Jin pops into the  restaurant Fuu works at, Mugen starts the fight. The fight is interrupted by a fire and then they promise Fuu not to kill each other until they find the sunflower samurai. Although they promised, they're itching to fight each other now and then.
