(in alphabetical)
Colin Greenwood - Bass, synthesizer, keyboard, sampler
Jonny Greenwood - Lead guitar, synthesizer, ondes martenot, piano, glockenspiel
Ed O'Brien - Rythm guitar, supplemental guitar, backing vocals
Phil Selway - drums, percussion, backing vocals
Thom Yorke - Lead vocals, rythm guitar, keyboard, organ, piano
Description
Radiohead have been described as a collective handful of extremely talented musicians, who have, over more than a decade, created some of the most creative, original, and influential music within the larger rock genre.
They have overstepped rock though, moving into other musical territory, experimenting with electronica, various odd instruments (Jonny Greenwood, the band's lead guitarrist, often plays an ondes martenot, a rarely used instrument nowadays), and even working with brass ensembles.
As well as the instruments, the vocals play a huge part in Radiohead. Thom Yorke's voice comes out clear and beautiful on records. His falsetto is nearly flawless. Live, Yorke's vocals often have a grainy, harsh sound, but most of the fans love it, as they say it gives the band much more character.
Yorke's singing style often has a sad, depressing, and daunting feel to it. He will mumble on one song, and in the next, his voice will be soaring high, giving the song an extraordinarily powerful feel.
Jonny Greenwood, the band's lead guitarrist, is one to brag about. He knows his music very well, and uses this to his advantage through his work. On the albums, his guitar work is impressive, often supplying the song with just the right amount of sound without overdoing it. A "solo" (under rock standards) is hardly present, but here and there his brilliance shines through on extended instrumentals.
