Gina Torres

Gina Torres Was born at Flower Fifth Hospital in Manhattan, New York in 1969. Her parents were native cubans, and Gina grew up in a latino neighbourhood. She is the youngest of 3 siblings.

At Fiorello LaGuardia School of Arts, she majored in vocal, and she is a gifted mezzo-soprano, as well as a jazz and gospel singer. She applied for several colleges, but didn't attend to any of them because she couldn't afford them. She started out working at the Lincoln Center Theater Company answering phones. She also worked in the saloon across the street from her first mentioned work place. Gina then got her own agent and started her profesional acting career in musicals and theatre plays.

Gina has been in many television productions; One Life to Live, Xena: Warrior Princess, Cleopatra 2525, Alias and Firefly are only some of the series she has appeared in over the years. Her big screen apearances include movies such as The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix: Revolutions, Hair Show, Fair Game and Serenity.

• She is one of three actors from FireFly, along with Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin, to cross over and play a big bad in either Buffy or Angel. She played Jasmine, the deity, in Season 4 of Angel.
• In 2001, Gina won an ALMA Award for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Syndicated Drama Series" for her role as Hel on Cleopatra 2525
