Welcome to Stars Hollow

The CastAfter making many mistakes in her own life, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) spends most of her time trying to keep her daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) from following in her footsteps. Often mistaken for sisters, the two lean on each other as they wade through the trials of small town Connecticut.

Lorelai, becoming pregnant at the young age of 16, found herself facing a very tough decision. Her parents wishes dictated that she marry Rory's father (Christopher), and he would work in her father's firm. Lorelai, headstrong and independent as always, broke ties with her family, taking Rory to raise her alone in the little town of Star's Hollow, Connecticut.

Lorelai started working at the Independence Inn, and by the time Rory was in high school, was running the Inn herself. Her relationship with her parents had consisted of visiting on Easter and Christmas, until Rory was accepted at one of the most pretigious schools in Connecticut - Chilton. Needing the money for the tuition, Lorelai approached her wealthy parents. Her mother declared that she wanted to be a part of their lives again, so, in exchange for Rory's tuition, the mother-daughter pair would come to dinner at the Gilmore's every Friday night - an ordeal Lorelai dreads, but Rory seems to view with veiled amusement

Years later, Lorelai couldn't be more proud of her own daughter. After working hard at Chilton Prep, Rory was valedictorian of her graduating class and is experiencing her sophomore year at Yale. This time, instead of Lorelai asking her parents for tuition money, Rory makes a financial agreement with Richard and Emily, covering her years in college. They agree to help as long as the Friday night dinners continue so they can be a permanent part of Rory and Lorelai's life. However, Richard and Emily's marriage is on the rocks, creating even more family tension. As for Lorelai, now that Rory's taken care of, she can fulfill her dream of owning her own inn with her best friend Sookie. The Dragonfly Inn is open for business.

While both Lorelai and Rory face new challenges in their own lives, their special relationship is a constant reminder that together, they can endure anything.

2) Alexis Bledel is Lorelai "Rory" Gilmore

Although Alexis Bledel is making her television debut as Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, she is no stranger to the camera. The 23-year-old began her career as a model in Houston.

Because she was a very shy child, Alexis' parents encouraged her to become involved in the theater at a young age. After performing in many productions such as "Our Town," "Aladdin," and "The Wizard of Oz," she was discovered at a local mall and began her modeling career. Alexis spent the next several years travelling all over the world on modeling jobs while trying to finish her high school education.

After graduating, Alexis moved to New York to attend NYU. At the end of her first year, her manager discovered the role of Rory and she headed to Los Angeles for the first season of Gilmore Girls. Re: Gilmore Girls
I admit it: the first time I caught Gilmore Girls, somewhere in the middle of Season 5, I thought it was horrible. To someone who had given up on "normal" shows and turned to sci-fi and fantasy for intelligent writing, it seemed pure scream-fests and psycho-drama. But then I caught Gilmore Girls on DVD, and --watching the episodes in order-- finally appreciated its genius. Brilliant writing. And some of the most warm, wonderful, and humourous characters you can hope to see on TV. Star's Hollow just grows on you, like a forgotten place from an ancient, but comforting, myth. You want to go there and have a coffee at Luke's.  Highly recommended for anyone who likes great, character-driven stories with lots of intelligent humour. Don't be fooled by the genre: this is one of the best shows to ever air.

Wonderful site, too, BTW.

Re: Gilmore Girls
YESSS!!!

It's fabulous beyond fabulous, beyond brilliant, beyond extroardinarily spectacular!

I love it, and though it seems as though it's just a sappy, girlie-girl, over-dramatic sitcom, (and it kind of is), it's not as bad as it sounds... I've seen guys complain about watching it when I refuse to change the channel, and then not utter another word after the first commercial because they actually LIKE it...
