Dominic as Owen in Shooting Livien

Dominic Monaghan is most known for his role as Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck in Peter Jackson's film trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Right now he's even more known as Charlie, the ill-fated rock star stranded on a mysterious island in the TV show Lost. But before all that fame and fortune, he was just a regular guy with big dreams. After watching Star Wars at age six, Dom wanted to be a movie star. However, growing up in his native Manchester, England, Dominic worked several odd jobs -- as a mail sorter, a stock boy, a sauté chef -- yet he yearned to be an actor. When he was at Aquinas College (a Catholic sixth form school in England) he was a regular fixture in school plays. He performed in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, played the Artful Dodger in Dickens' Oliver Twist, and even portrayed American gangster Bugsy Malone.

A young Dominic as Geoffrey Shawcross

At age 18, Dominic was finally discovered by a BBC talent scout while working with the Manchester Youth Theatre and was offered the co-starring role of amateur detective Routledge's underage sidekick, Geoffrey Shawcross, in the long-running series Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. Dom appeared on the show for four seasons.

In his feature-film debut, Dom portrayed a Russian sailor in Hostile Waters. He also appeared in the docudrama This Is Personal: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper, in which he plays the boyfriend of a girl attacked by Jack the Ripper. He also recorded his first BBC radio show, Stockport...So Good They Named It Once, a family sitcom that features Dominic as a witty, lovelorn 15 year old.

Getting caught by Gandalf with Pippin

After he auditioned for Lord of the Rings, he left England to film the WWII miniseries Monsignor Renard in France, in which he played a droll layabout whose life dramatically changes during the German occupation.

Once shooting for Lord of the Rings was over, Dominic went on to appear in several more feature films, playing oddly comic and somber roles that stretch his creative muscles. Besides acting, Dominic is also a writer.  Check out his body of work below and catch him at his best!

Re: Dominic Monaghan
I might have to take a break from the public wiki pages and work on my personal wiki page and create the scout057x wiki strictly to write the Advance Tips and Tricks of wiki pages.  heh

Re: Dominic Monaghan
Nice idea.  Go for it!  I had to take time out, too, to get my own personal page going which I'm still not satisfied with, so it'll be an ongoing project.  Now that I also have a blog page at MySpace, I'll be expanding...  Thanks for all the tips.  I also have to do something with the blog theme css cheat sheets which sorely need an update but I've been too involved in creating other things to get back into that just yet.

Re: Dominic Monaghan
Yeah, I bet my page will be an ongoing project as well, until I'm satisfied.

I was just at my MySpace blog and I was trying to learn their CSS ID's and stuff.. lol  I figured to just leave it alone for now.

Now that I know CSS, as promised, I would like to be a part of blogthemes!  But first, I want to try creating a public layout to see if the staffers would approve it.

Re: Dominic Monaghan
I'd love to get into onto the blogthemes blog team.  Since parity and Jakob are on hiatus, it's been lonely over there.  I'm right in the middle of designing a few new blog themes.  Will preview in a mo'

Re: Dominic Monaghan
We could combine our efforts and come up with some pretty sweet cheat sheets.  I hate it whenever I stumble across a blog or wiki page that has garish colors or combinations of colors that just make things unreadable.  Unfortunately, not everyone who's online has a background in design, so it's understandable why bad design happens.  Most people just pick their favorite colors and images without any forethought.  When I first started doing the blog themes it was my intention to kinda pass on the savings to less web saavy people, if you know what I mean!  In any case, it's nice to do these things in my spare time.  Very addictive and very relaxing plus you get the joy of making everyone else happy, too, well, most of the time!

Re: Dominic Monaghan
I know exactly what you mean by that! lol  I've seen wikis and blogs with big pictures as their background and the text can't even be found... lol  I am SO with you when it comes to readability and design.

Yeah, designing wiki pages have become my best stress relief lately.  I tend to forget real-life problems when I do these things.

I still have your CSS Cheat Sheets for designing themes.  After learning CSS while doing wiki pages.  I have a way better understanding of what you have in them.  Times surely have changed eh?  lol
