Brandre ,
Thank God for Americans. But you are wrong about canada , my friend . They are the among the most dishonest , arrogant and hypocrytical people in the world.
If you want to know more about the real canada please check the very popular website : www.notcanada.com.
Also , check the photos , links and the forum .
You will be amazed how wrong you are about them.
Joe
There are times I could get upset with Canada but if you look at their record overall, it has been great. There are no other peoples or government I would want next door. Australia, New Zealand are close second and third. They just want to live, be left alone, have a neighbor that will help when they need help and they will be there when we need it.
Let's not antagonize friends.
I might comment that Canada has been a refuge for a lot of legitimately oppressed people and have been as much the world's peacekeepers as any country compared to size. Their soldiers take the risks that are horrorable to keep peace in areas where people there want no peace.
The "friendly fire accident" in Afghanistan where an American bomb killed a handful of Canadians is just one example. Terrible, regrettable. We need to treat those Canandians and their families as we would our own.
Don't bash Canada. Thank them, even when they have a bad day. Like us, they do at times but they have a good track record of being there when it counts.
If Canada in any way has any complicity in 9/11, it was because they have a soft place in their national heart for oppressed people that we have lost. I doubt even that.
I am over 60, I remember the 50's. I know the peoples of Eastern Europe who fled communism who were denied asylum in the US who are in Canada. My son-in-law is Finnish / Ukranian from North of Toronto. Both families were denied US immigration, both are in Canada.
When someone wants to bash Canada, they better not talk to me. They have taken over the place of sanctuary we were before politicians and special interest groups got involved. Then we took in those desiring to be free.
Today we take who the unions, politicians and the special interests allow. If we were doing our share, Canada would not be going it alone. Maybe they did make a mistake. I can't say. But if they did they were trying to do right while we were doing nothing.
And then, where were our secret services? Let me answer that. Hung up in liberal politics that prevented information sharing that may have prevented it, politics that came out of the anti-war idiots of the 60's...
The problem here is not Canada, per se. Speaking as a U.S. citizen (born and raised--and notice I didn't say American--I know that annoys some Canadians), we have a great friend and neighbor to the north. Because of this relationship, we allow pretty free movement of Canadians into the U.S., and vice versa.
These terrorists are exploiting the special relationship between the U.S. and Canada. Granted, it seems to be easier to enter Canada than to enter the U.S., and once they get into Canada they can cross the border into the U.S. This is a problem, and needs to be addressed on both sides of the border, but it is unfair to blame the Canadians.
Ironically, these guys got right in, but earlier this year Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Henry had to wait in Canada for ten days while the INS processed his work papers after the Caps claimed him off of waivers from Edmonton. Apparently the guys at INS can't distinguish between an Al Qaeda terrorist and a Canadian NHL defenseman.
