October Fall Newsletter

October Newsletter

Fall 2008, Vol. 10

To all our friends, and fellow Reiki Practitioner’s from around the world International and Domestic Welcome to our fall Tree of Life Reiki Newsletter.

Since our last newsletter we have experienced deep sadness in the recent passing of our beloved Schnauzer Heather she was10½ years old. Heather was intelligent, faithful and loving beyond words. We take comfort in knowing that she has reunited in Heaven with Spencer whom you may remember we lost about 3 years ago. The two of them were soul mates, so very close and Heather was simply lost without him. In an effort to comfort Heather, and try and fill her void we brought two more dogs into our home, both were Schnauzers. Gracie was 2½ and Benji 7 months. We purchased the two of them from the same home, so they were already well acquainted with one another. We were not sure at the time if Heather would even be receptive to having two new dogs living in our home. Well as things turned out, Heather not only openly received Benji the puppy, but also to our total surprise took on the mother role to him. With Gracie it was a toss up, while she and Heather seemed to get along okay, still Gracies role had now changed from being the Alpha dog to having to relinquish her role to Heather. Who clearly was the alpha dog and remained so until her recent passing. Heather seemed to gravitate toward Benji very quickly. Benji is nearly a mirror image of Spencer, both in appearance and his personality. Both were white in color, and a bit large for mini-Schnauzers. The only real difference in their appearance aside from the age difference was Benji’s ears had been left natural (floppy) while Spencer’s (and Heather’s) ears had been cropped by the breeder when they were still puppies. In my closing thoughts here I would also like to express our gratitude to our Veterinarian Dr.Toben, and his dedicated staff at Apollo Animal Hospital. They treated Heather during her illness and the "In Remembrance of Heather" card we received telling us of the donation they graciously gave in Heather’s name to our local Zoo to support the veterinary care of all the animals in our local zoo. We sincerely thank them for their generosity donated in Heather’s name. On a closing note I’d like to mention that "Gracie" spends a great deal of time with Wanda, we call her our "Attunement Dog" because she likes to be quietly present during the attunement sessions lending her energies as well.

Fall has finally arrived!
Well not entirely, for those of us that live in the desert southwest are still looking at temperatures well above 100 degrees, but morning and late evenings are beginning to cool down somewhat so surely fall can’t be to far away? Across the rest of the continental US, fall is descending, bringing all of the changing colors to the trees and foliage. Like last year, in many locations it has been an exceptionally hot summer. For most of the other parts of the country, much cooler temperatures tell us that fall has certainly arrived.

Reiki and Other Healing Modalities Questions & Answers: Please e-mail us any questions you might have regarding our classes, or perhaps you have specific questions about Reiki. We will do our best to answer them in upcoming newsletters.

Question: We seem to be asked this question repeatedly, How does a distant Attunement work?

Answer:
All that is needed for the Reiki attunement to be successful is the Reiki Masters intent (belief) to give a Reiki attunement and the recipients intent to receive the Reiki attunement. The entire process is not up to us to make it work we just convey a set of attunement instructions. Simply said, the attunement is based on Reiki intelligence, we are just the conduit of the process. This works for any of the healing modalities as well as Reiki.

New Courses:

Several new courses have been added to our Tree Of Life Reiki web site this past quarter. A very important new class you might want to take a closer look at is titled: Money Reiki. Please visit our web site for more information on these exciting new classes. We also offer a host of other dynamic classes so please join us at: http://www.treeoflifereiki.com

October Moon is A Waning Crescent Moon or 4% of the full Moon.

A Brief Explanation of the Moon Phases:
What is the phase of the moon? The changing shape of the bright part of the Moon that we see is called its phase. In the month of October the Moon will start out a mere sliver in the night sky, gradually evolving nightly until the middle of the month where it will be at its fullest phase. In the remaining days of the month it will diminish in size back to a mere sliver.

The phases of the moon are caused by the relative positions of the earth, sun, and moon. The moon goes around the earth in 27.3 days, or 27 days 7 hours 43 minutes, on average. This measurement is relative to the stars and is called the sidereal period or orbital period. However, because of the earth's motion around the sun, a complete moon cycle (New Moon to New Moon) appears to earthbound observers to take a couple of days longer: 29.5305882 days to be exact. This number is called the synodic period or "lunation", and is relative to the sun.

The sun always illuminates the half of the moon facing the sun (except during lunar eclipses, when the moon passes through the earth's shadow). When the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth, the moon appears "full" to us, a bright, round disk. When the moon is between the earth and the sun, it appears dark, a "new" moon. In between, the moon's illuminated surface appears to grow (wax) to full, then decreases (wanes) to the next new moon.

The edge of the shadow (the terminator) is always curved, being an oblique view of a circle, giving the moon its familiar crescent shape. Because the "horns" of the moon at the ends of the crescent are always facing away from the setting or rising sun, they always point upward in the sky. Its also fun to seek out paintings or pictures which show an "impossible moon" with the horns pointed downwards.

Our Favorite Reiki Recipe for October

While trying to decide on a recipe for this months newsletter, it occurred to me that we have really neglected to post dishes or favorite recipes from our international friends. At a recent lunch gathering a friend brought a delicious dish, and after trying it I decided why not pass it along this month for others to enjoy. The holiday festivities shared with friends and relatives are approaching and this would be a really great dish to serve.

HUMMUS: It is a popular food in various local forms throughout the Middle Eastern world. ...Hummus is an Arabic word for chickpeas, it is a dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It can be served many ways, commonly with Pita bread, toasted bread, crackers, perhaps with vegetables etc. It can even be put together with a variety of deli-style meats and served as a wrap.

Ingredients:

  • 1 16 oz can of chickpeas or garbanzo beans
  • 1/4 cup liquid from can of chickpeas
  • 3-5 tablespoons lemon juice (depending on taste)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation:

Drain chickpeas and set aside liquid from can. Combine remaining ingredients in blender or food processor. Add 1/4 cup of liquid from chickpeas. Blend for 3-5 minutes on

low until thoroughly mixed and smooth.

Place in serving bowl, and create a shallow well in the center of the hummus.

Add a small amount (1-2 tablespoons) of olive oil in the well. Garnish with parsley

* For a spicier hummus, add sliced red
Chile or a dash of cayenne pepper.

A Closing Thought:

We are all Vibrational Beings. You're like a receiving mechanism that when you set your tuner to the station, you're going to hear what's playing. Whatever you are focused upon is the way you set your tuner, and when you focus there for as little as 17 seconds, you activate that vibration within you. Once you activate a vibration within you, Law of Attraction begins responding to that vibration, and you're off and running--whether it's something wanted or unwanted --- Abraham

Pictures from the San Diego Zoo - FINALLY
The San Diego Zoo is absolutely incredible! A person needs at least three days to see everything.  I regret that I didn't get to see the pandas.

I had so many pictures that I decided to make a little movie.  As usual, ignore  the poor editing. :D

Something's happening at the zoo....
So, on Wednesday Paula and Erika (her younger sister) drove down from JC and they, me, Laken, and our mom all went to the zoo (about an hour and a half drive from where I live). Overall it was quite fun. Here are some pics for you to enjoy!

Poor baby seemed depressed. We were told not to look at it because it'd make it angry and it would run at the glass but all the poor thing did was stare off into space.

It seemed to have an itchy butt that the branch came in handy to alleviate.

Cat Display, hillarious

Cat Exploited For Viewing Pleasure In Apartment Zoo! July 2, 2008

Posted by John Shore in Family.
trackback

These pictures are the emotionally wrenching evidence that a nefarious renter in my apartment complex is shamelessly exploiting their elderly cat for the visual gratification of even the most mildly curious passers-by on their way to the laundry room.

Loving your cat is one thing. Turning it into a highly illegitimate zoo display is another.

And the informational placard? Insult to injury!

(click on picture for better view)

As I approached the window, I could barely believe my compassionate eyeballs.

Too, too cute cruel.

Why not strap a little barrel around the poor thing’s neck and charge admission to see ”ROSCOE, THE ST. BERNARD CAT”?!
