Types of XML Interoperabilit...

"Content Model Interoperability is centered around enabling all or part of one standard's content model to be included as part of another standard. For example, DITA's specialization capabilities could be employed to create custom topic types for DocBook sections or refentries (in a DITA-like way). Conversely, DocBook's DTDs are designed to create customizations on top of the core content model."

a useful podcasting service?
i wonder if there is a market for "blog reading" -- a service whereby a conventional flesh-and-blood human would read blogs into a podcast for distribution. perhaps this would make sense as a top blogs podcast. or maybe i'm totally off my rocker. i do know that i might listen to such a thing a couple of times a month -- especially if i had an ipod. it would be the perfect sort of material for the biweekly trip back from class at wpi.

speaking of things worthy of listening to at such times, i'm currently listening to wtf radio. it might be the most random thing i've ever heard.

Nothing Philosophical Today Except Maybe Last Night

Entry Two- Sunday October 9th
2005--

I was thinking about the people I love
last night. I might further elaborate on
this, but I won't. I have to do some college work first.(Tomorrow I
shall)

Some minor things I did today, I
submitted a new theme and I was thinking about making a php script
that parses the XML rss feeds and displays mindsay's blogs on my
site. Sounds pretty lame though.

Other Minor Notes:

I should of used adobe image ready on
my images to make sure they extra small.

Too lazy though.

Some Issues with mindsay's coding:

DIV tags suck. I wish Mindsay used
tables because they are very customizable. I guess those DIV tags
have a point though because you can move the plugins around on the
site. DIV tags don't work with height % which doesn't allow me to
expand the plugins to 100%. I wanted the plugins to expand to 100%
of the page with a vertical align at the top, but it wouldn't work.
This is the second time my ideas were limited by DIV tags. I tried to
help Chip my older brother with his site, but the DIV tags were just
too much of a hassle.

Tridium Approach to Generating Documentation (2005)

The basic problem is that documentation should be available in a printed format as well as available electronically from a web site or in the product.

Source Documentation

Source documentation that needs to support print, web and product needs can be generated as XML to the DocBook DTD (Document Type Definition). This provides the information structured by content without specific presentation defined. Today we use structured Framemaker to source all of these documents.

Conversion to Print

Printable documentation is created using the structured Framemaker to create a PDF directly.

Conversion to HTML

This conversion uses the structured Framemaker to create docbook XML and then uses a customized version of Norman Walsh's Modular DocBook Stylesheets to convert to HTML.

Build a Module

The Niagara AX build tools are used to create a module from these HTML files and the JavaHelp TOC.

Norman Walsh's Docbook Stylesheets

I have been using Norman Walsh's Docbook Stylesheets for longer than I want to remember. I used them to convert SGML to HTML and RTF with DSSSL originally and later to convert XML with XSL. We have used it for help files for online documentation and for embedded help in Tridium java products.
