We had our third ultrasound yesterday.
It really is so amazing what technology can do. :) The baby was so adorable, moving all around showing off for the camera! :)
We found out that we will be having another girl! :) Brianna is super excited, and we honestly didn't have a preference, so we are thrilled to be having a little baby girl. :)
The ultrasound also showed a 'bright spot' on the baby's heart. The Midwife said that alone that is only a red flag, and not a positive indication that anything is wrong, but they wanted to do a few other tests for safety sake.
I had to do a blood test to check for the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities, and they scheduled a level two ultrasound for January where they will focus on what is called "echogenetic cardiac foci" which from what I can tell is just a calcium deposit of sorts in the left ventricle of the heart.
This could be completely normal and go away on its own, but it has also been connected to down syndrome and other chromosome issues. This is why the blood test will shed some more light to us. We should get the results by Friday.
I told the Dr. that the only reason I would be interested in taking the tests is if what we could learn would help the baby at birth if there was an immediate issue that needed to be addressed. I won't be giving up a sick baby, this is our little girl and she was given to us for a reason. I just want to be sure that she has the best health care available from the start. The Dr. said it made sense to go forward and get the tests because a.) the odds of something being wrong just from the "bright spot" are low, and she'd rather have us be able to relax with a reassuring blood test result, and b.) if there were something wrong it would be beneficial for the delivery dr. to be aware of it.
I have Faith that everything does happen for a reason, and I am praying for my babies good health. Anyone who wants to send some positive energy my way is welcome. :)
I am having a baby girl! :)
