Winds @ MindSay

The winds are getting stronger but still no rains or power outages in our neighborhood.  Good luck to all the other Mindsay Houstonians and outlying area residents.  Callmeroger is already without power (Stay cool dude!).

Light Rain/Windy 80ºF Feels like 86ºF

Been talking to my cousin in Mississippi. They evacuated on Sunday,August 31 2008. They live in Pass Christian, and my Aunt in Long Beach. 
Lynn said 13 feet of water in Pass Christian.They just finished their house after Katrina and losing everything in it. They did build up though! 18 feet in the air! Hope the surge is over. 5 more feet and it will be in their house. Right now just storage room on bottom level in water. House safe right now. Still has the door intact. Whew! They traveled 2 hours northward to escape. Haven't heard any news about Long Beach area where my Aunt bought a house. She still owns the concrete slab where her house was before Katrina. She did not rebuild in same place. Could stand in her driveway and see the Gulf. She lived Very close.
Keeping my prayers flowing for them!

• I don't have to work tomorrow after all! Yaaay! I actually get a day off! I'm going to use this day off to get a much needed pedicure.  The talons have been hidden inside thick socks and closed-toe shoes.  Sandal season will be here soon so they have to get back into tip-top shape.  Since I will be wearing silver sandals to the auction on Friday, a pedicure is imparative!

 

• I feel a little better about the body image issue. After I went shopping for accessories and shoes for the dress, I felt better about what I was wearing for some reason.  I still haven't found that super duper, industrial strength, titanium girdle, but I'm sure I'll find something that will suffice.  When "the husband" came home and saw me in the ensemble, he almost attacked me.  Only the presence of the kiddo prevented him from pouncing! :P  I guess that means I didn't look too shabby.

 

 

• Keenu and LadyShirea warned me about those 35 mph winds this morning.  I hadn't been outside yet so I had no idea!  In addition to the ridiculous 40° drop in temperature we woke up to, we had to deal with the wind beating our asses and pushing against our cars.  Thank goodness this weave is in tight! Braids were whipping around my head and slapping me in the face.  I looked like a damned Gorgon!

 

• No Josie and Jayme, the title of the post was not a veiled reference to the thing you two were laughing at earlier.  I wouldn't exactly cheer about that. Lament maybe, but not cheer. (You girls are terrible!)

 

 

   I'm amazed that our house is still standing after experiencing hurricane force winds all night last night! I heard two trees fall during the night! They were really close too, as we discovered in the morning. I heard cracking and snapping so loud that I expected to hear a tree crash through the roof next! Along with all this, we lost power for almost 24 hours! The tempature in the house got below 60 degrees! A little ways down the main road, a huge tree fell accross both lanes, causing a road block for most of the day! What a crazy, windy, chilly day!
