Arby's takes over Wendy's

Billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, owner of Arby's, bought Wendy's for $2.34 billion, merging these two fast food phenomenons under a single, organized management. BUT... is this necessarily good? Will the hailed Arby's Roast Beef Sandwiches necessarily mesh well with Wendy's comforting Hot Stuffed Baked Potatoes?

The four of us in abce inc. decided to conduct some onfield research and take on roles as mystery shoppers in which we secretly rated the food of both major food chains.

HOWEVER, the four of us are split in our group decision as Ellen and Lauren (aka C & A) took pure delight in Arby's classic melt sandwich and the ever refreshing Jamoca Shake.  After an appetizing meal, they walked away convinced that Arby's recent take-over of Wendy's would be for the better.  Clearly, they were "Thinking Arby's"

On the other hand, Austin and Marshall (aka E & B) begged to differ with their candid fascination of Wendy's championed square hamburgers and its famous Frosty™ Shakes. Finishing their meal, they were appalled that their newfound haven would be under new management. Their argument? Simply that "It's Wendy's."

In order to resolve our dispute and form a solid consensus in our mystery shopper report, we need your help.  Please give any and all feedback as to whether the recent merging of Arby's and Wendy's is in fact beneficial or not.

Wendy's And Arby's Merge: I'll Take Some Curly Fries With My Classic Double
swanginbajingo alerts us to news of the merger of Wendy’s and Arby’s.  While you can read all of the juicy (pun intended) financial details in USA Today, we’re more curious as to what your dream Wendy’s-Arby’s combo meal would consist of.

Personally, I want a Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Cup of Chili from Wendy’s, with Curly Fries from Arby’s.  And, maybe a Diet Coke from Wendy’s, since Arby’s serves Pepsi products.

What is your dream Wendy’s-Arby’s combo meal?

"Contempt" -- The World of Facial Expressions

For the most part, today has been pretty good.  I thought the first day back to school would be much worse.

We got Dr. Ellis's usual dose of 8 AM humor, which may have even been better than usual.  My Chemistry lab group was great... we worked efficiently and got more done than we were supposed to, freeing up time in class tomorrow.  Plus, I love just about everyone in that class.  In English, I did awful on a prose passage quiz, but it's one of those things that's hit or miss, and you can't study for it, so I'm not going to sweat it.  Calculus was good because I actually understood what was going on, and in my personal opinion, the problems we're doing now are pretty cool.

Lunch combined two of my favorites:  Matt and Wendys.  Enough said.  It was good.

Brittiany and I had fun in Civics today as we usually do.  Psychology was interesting because we had to stand in front of the class and show different emotions with our facial expressions.  Mine was "contempt."  Band was, well, band, but some drum major in Arizona wants to get in contact with me, so I think that might be kind of cool.  We'll see.

I had to answer to "aye.... aye... aye!!" today after school.  Yup, I felt like a dog or something.

But my oboe lesson went well... we worked on my beast of an all-state solo and made reads.  And Boogie (her bird) is just too cool.

Now I'm going to go possibly do some homework, though I probably won't get very far before I decide to go to sleep instead.  Good night.

WW Christmas Concert... and Frosty the Snowman!

Yesterday was good.  Well, I was stressed out during the school day because of all the work I had.  In AP Music Theory, I was put in charge of instructing my row on how to do four part harmonies with chord changes (and transposition).  Then in problem set was due in AP Chem, but I ended up getting a 23/24, which I was pleased with.  In AP English, we had multiple choice (like the AP exam) on a passage from Richard III (it's Shakespeare).  I actually did alright on that on.  I got 11/14, which isn't as good as I did last year, but considering how little attention I actually had focused on the assignment, I was happy.  In Calculus, we had a test.  Yes, my favorite.  We get a few minutes of extra time to finish it up on Monday.  It kicked my ass.  Well, maybe not as much as the one I got an 82 on did, but it was not an easy test.  I'm going to do a lot of "thinking" about it this weekend.  Then Jamie needed a ride to his house to get his car, which meant Matt took him and we couldn't go out to eat.  I wasn't very happy about that, but it was out of my control.  I met back up with Matt at Reagan, though.  We had our hallway conversation without actually facing each other (I don't actually mean this sentence... it relates to something we did in Psychology).  In Civics class, I had just enough time to scribble down 20 psychology definitions that were due the next period.  I got them all thanks to a little help from Mr. Kirby.  Psychology was fun because Chandalae and I make it fun, plus Ms. Allen's been sitting back there with us, which makes it even better.  Our presentation on Tuesday will be great.  Or we will at least try to make it great.  Then band ended up being the entire band together in a blazing hot auditorium, playing music that sounded like crap.  I like the way Candice and I always count down the minutes until it's over.

After school, Matt and I headed over to Wake for the Wachovia Winds rehearsal with the composer Erik Morales.  The rehersal was very long and tiring.  The guy's a genius when it comes to composing, but I'm not so sure how I feel about his skills as a clinician or whatever he was yesterday.  Plus, our group was not playing up to our potential, which made me pretty sad.  But soon enough (except it really wasn't soon at all), it was over and we (Kate, me, and Matt) went out to eat.  We had Wendy's..  Yes, that was the 3rd time I've had Wendy's in 5 days.  Kate and I went inside to change, Matt had changed by the time we came back, so I guess he just changed in his car.  We ran into Jocelyn, Jared, Carrie, and Stacy inside and talked for a few minutes to ensure that Matt was all ready to go when we came back.  I ended up winning a small argument with Matt over this hideous bowtie that he wanted to wear.  It wouldn't have been so bad by itself, but he was wearing a pink shirt and wanted to wear a blue and white striped bowtie.  Yeah, they were not working together.

Anyway, back at Wake, we got ready for the concert, which included Anthony and I rehearsing the thing I had to read for the concert.  It sounded pretty good when we were doing every other word there for a while.  Then Brandon and Carmon got to make fun of me, which is pretty usual for them.  Soon enough, the concert was starting.  I can't say it was exactly great, but it was better than what Reagan is going to sound like on  Thursday.  And Anna (my oboe teacher) came!  I was pretty surprised to see her there.  I wish I had known beforehand, but it was good to see her afterwards.  My speech-ish thing went alright, I think.  At least I managed to get through it without laughing.  I went with Matt to talk to his parents for a few minutes after it was over, then I watched as he dragged his tuba out to his car.

Then, the best part of my day happened... we went to his house and watched Frosty the Snowman.  I had a wonderful time.  I'm not going to elaborate.  But I really like him.

And today, I get to work on those horrible college applications.  Help me...

Don't ever change (this is a sarcastic title)

"Is man no more than this?"

--from King Lear by William Shakespeare

We've been studying the play in English.  It's actually pretty good.  Keeping in mind that I really don't enjoy school reading assignments, this is high praise.  That line is spoken by Lear amidst his insanity, yet this particular line is of profound depth and clarity.

Anyway, this week has been semi-rough.  Jazz band Monday through Wednesday.  The concert last night.  College crap.  The fact that I had a test in every class period 1-4 on Monday morning.  My parents.  Ms. Allen still hasn't graded the test our class took two weeks ago.  That awful presentation I gave on aggression.  Someone I thought was my friend but now I'm not so sure what I want anymore.  The fact that I'm now so drained I'm only writing fragments.

There were good moments, too...  Wendy's.  Standing in the middle of the street.  Ashley came home (a complete sentence, just for you).

Alright, so I was just looking at a few people's myspace profiles, and I was reminded of something that bugs the hell out of me…

But first, another something that bugs me to no end… when people in math class use the words minus and times like they are verbs…. Here's an example:  "You have to times it by two."  Actually, no, you stand to be corrected… you have to multiply it by two.  That's just one of those little things that drive me nuts.  But we did learn the fundamental theorem of the calculus in class today, so that was pretty exciting (this is sarcastic).

Anyway, back to the previous paragraph.  People tell other people "never change."  I've heard it a lot.  Is that your idea of some kind of term of endearment?  I mean I can kind of understand that you're telling someone you like who they are right then, but how dare you ask him or her not to change?  Only with change can you have evolution, growth and progress.  And you really want to stop someone from all of that?  I want to believe you're just confused… it's a social script for you (psychology term), and you think it's something nice to say.  I find it downright insulting.  Now I recognize that other people don't see it this way, so I try not to be offended when I hear it.  But it bothers me.  A lot.  It's like asking someone to be stagnant.  Why not just put them into deep freeze for a while and take them out again later so they're exactly who you remember them to be.  A part of what makes life so beautiful is that we can change.  We can change.  Sure, some things are hard to change – I'm not trying to deny that.  But people change, and they should change.  It's a part of our deepest characteristics as humans.

Here's a song to demonstrate what I mean.  Big thanks to Kenny Chesney…

"Here's to the strong, thanks to the brave

Don't give up hope, some people change

Against all odds, against the grain

Love finds a way, some people change"

In the context of the song, it's not exactly what I'm trying to get across, but it's a good song.

If we didn't change, we would be very, very boring.  You should embrace the mystery that each day brings new life to all of us.  Respect others enough to remember not to tell them not to change (I don't care that that's a double negative).

Alright, enough of that…

I miss my friend.  Or someone who I thought was my friend.  I don't know if I really miss him, but I miss the idea of him, or at least the way he used to treat me.  It hasn't always been this way between us.  Maybe we're just changing and growing apart, but that makes me sad.  He's been a jerk to me lately, and I really don't know what to think of him.  But that's life I suppose.  I just wish he would realize that he really does hurt me, and I wish he would treat me a little better from time to time.

But we can't all get what we wish for.

Holy shit.  Yesterday was December 14, and I didn't even realize it until just now.  I don't even know what to think.  Yesterday, I had a very nice end (or a few hours before the end) to what would have otherwise been not such a good day.  I thank Matt for that.  He's great.

I can't believe I forgot the date.  I don't know what I should think of myself or my mind for that.  I suppose that it's good in some ways that I didn't remember.  Enough of that...

Here's to a Steeler victory this weekend!!!!
