Teen Anorexics Are Never Satisfied On Their Quest To Be Thin Starving To Fit In

The Illusion" Teen Anorexia: Tollie Schmidt "Empowering Greatness Creating A Dream-Infused Life"

You hear about Mary-Kate Olsen and her struggle with eating and about supermodels who are known for their skin-and-bone structures. You may even know a really thin girl at school who eats close to nothing and who everyone whispers about being anorexic. [caption id="attachment_934" align="aligncenter" width="218" caption="Mary Kate Olsen Cover Of W Magazine"]Mary Kate Olsen Cover Of W Magazine[/caption]

But anorexia is a serious eating disorder that many people don't know much about.

People who have anorexia nervosa starve themselves, maybe even purge after giving in to the temptation to eat. However, this disorder, which starts with diet and can lead to death, may be caused by genetics.

"There is a biological connection," said Julie Wilson, therapist at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. "Teenagers with an eating disorder, their offspring has a seven times greater chance of developing an eating disorder."

Even the brain of someone with anorexia is different from the brain of a person without the disorder, she said.

"The structure of the brain of a person with an eating disorder would be different, the chemicals would be different, and certain parts of their brain would be inflamed."

Yet the main key to anorexia is dieting.

"Teenagers have a 12 times greater chance of developing an eating disorder if you diet," Williams said. To be classified as anorexic, a Teen must be below 85 percent of her ideal weight and have three missed menstrual cycles, Wilson said.

According to psychcentral.com, there are two types of anorexia.

- The first is the better-known restricting type. Its sufferers starve themselves and become obsessed with looks and weight but do not purge.

- The second is defined by binge eating and purging. These people also starve themselves but sometimes will eat and then purge like a bulimic. They may also use laxatives, diuretics or enemas.

"Teenagers purge to self-punish," Wilson said. "The biggest reason to purge is about weight. It's a mind-set of 'I can eat whatever I want to and then get rid of it without suffering the consequences,' which is people's misperception."

Some teenagers with eating disorders find sneaky ways to hide their disease.

"It's harder to hide if you're anorexic as opposed to a bulimic, but some can be crafty," Wilson said. "They wear layers of clothing so they look bigger than they are." They eat too fast or too slow, she said, play with their food, use condiments to hide flavors or cook for other people but don't eat. In her novel "Unwell," author Leslie Lipton tells of her own struggle with anorexia.

"I basically told my parents that I was eating at school," she said. "I would purge after dinner when I said I was taking a shower, and I made sure I didn't get dressed in front of my mom so she could not see what I was doing to myself."

Like many teenage girls, Lipton said she started to feel uncomfortable with her body when she hit puberty and observed the behavior of her skinny friends.

"My friends were eating lettuce when I was eating hamburgers, and that was when I first started to realize that maybe that was why they were so skinny," Lipton said. Lipton's parents found out and forced her into therapy and doctor's appointments. That led to "dessert torture" - her parents forcing her to eat ice cream every night.

"It was absolute terror," she said. "Eating this bowl of ice cream, which sounds absolutely insane now, made me think I would gain 20 pounds right then and there. It was one of the worst moments of my life."

Lipton said she could not see at the time what had happened to her. "I would look in the mirror, and I didn't see what I looked like. When I was at my lowest weight (my friends) saw skin and bones, and I would see fat."

Teenagers with anorexia are never quite satisfied.

"The thinner you are and the thinner you become, the more dissatisfied you become, the more unhappy you become, and the more obsessive (about weight) you become," said Wilson of Research Medical Center.

Most teenagers with anorexia starve themselves to reach a "perfect" weight. But there are other reasons.

"I kept telling myself that I would be happy if I was thin. When I wasn't happy, I just told myself that I must not be thin enough," Lipton said.

Lipton was hospitalized and did not think she could ever be healthy.

"I didn't think I could get better. I thought I would live with it forever," she said.

Recovery is never easy.

"The moment when (I) realized (I) wanted help was the hardest," Lipton said. "It's a hard realization. The eating disorder is the only thing to rely on and the only comfort."

Patience, support and encouragement are important, Williams said. Sometimes a person can recover without help, but Williams said it is very rare.

"They need nutritional counseling," she said. "The most important thing is to gain insight and interrupt the behaviors."

Full recovery can take five to seven years, Wilson said. "The average inpatient stay is about three times."

How To Loose Weight in One Day
It is possible to loose weight in one day but it is only a temporary solution to fit in the pants for a special occasion. The long term weight loss plan is to have a right balance of foods and exercise regularly. It is dangerous to continue starving yourself in hope to loose weight fast.

However, you may take this opportunity to cleanse and detoxify your body once a while for a very good reason - expel the junks out of your body. The loss of weight is only water and not fat because the body consists large amount of water and water loss is the easiest short term solution as compared to fat loss easy diets.

How To Loose Weight In One Day?

- Plan your day to reduce calorie intake as much as you can. No more than 1200 calories a day.

- You have to eat a lot of vegetables(raw if possible) and no meat for the day. Fruits like apple can be consumed in moderation since apple contains sugar. Consume only complex carbohydrates(vegetables and fruits) and avoid simple sugar, flour products, foods with high sodium.

- Divide your meals into 5 or 6 times a day, that is between 200 and 250 calories per meal. Eat small portion will prevent you from hunger and no wastage of food that the body can be stored as fat.

- Drink lots of water. Water not only makes you fill up but also helps to expel toxins out of the body. Drink green tea if possible because green tea helps to burn more calories. Drink at least 8 glasses of water for the day. The best is to drink a glass of water before each meal and in between. 64 oz. of water is recommended to keep the body well hydrated.

- Don't forget to exercise a bit to elevate your heart rates and maintain metabolism. Cardio exercise is the best in this case. Avoid strength training since you are limiting the calories input.

Weigh yourself at night after a day of detoxifying your body. You will expect to at least half a pound or more. Loose weight in one day is possible but no experts will recommend it for permanent weight loss.

We recommend calorie shifting method to help you lose weight in a week and every week, shedding 3 to 5 lbs safely and naturally.

Friday the 13th of March - Sugar test results and superstition
KitsunenoTora

Drinking: Water
Eating: HUNGRY. D< NEED FOOD~
Playing: Rune Factory 2
Worrying about: What my doctor said about my sugar test

KitsunenoTora is feeling: Tired, upset, angry, worried

-Sigh- Today is Friday the 13th. Now, I'm not a superstitious person. Friday the 13th has no meaning to me other than it's Friday and the 13th day of the month, and that horror movie series. Although maybe I should be more superstitious of this day just because of what I learned from my doctor...

Then again, I could have found out any other day just as easily, it just so happened to be today. So there's really no logical reason to think that way, really. ^^; Just like how it was before.

This morning probably around 11:30 my mom came in my room with the phone. It was my gynecologist's office - they're the ones who prescribed the sugar test, so they got the results. I was sleeping still when she came in, so she woke me up. I didn't really catch the tone of her voice all that well since I was still half asleep, but from what I remember she had a worried-serious tone to her voice, so I got the impression that it was a lot. DX I don't want to become diabetic. :( I like sugar. And I don't want to give up pop; there isn't anything to drink at home except water and pop, and water gets really boring after a while. But then I would have to switch to diet pop, which tastes DISGUSTING. UGH. Do not want. But I dunno what I'm supposed to do. I'll have to talk to my doctor.

This sucks. It really does. And now I have no choice - I gotta lose some weight. It'll just increase and increase my chance of actually developing it, and if/when I do it'll just become impossible to get rid of, and I'll just gain more. Not good. But I'm comfortable with the way I am. I don't want to get any bigger, but I'm comfortable enough to not want to bother about it. It's a lot of work that I don't know if I have the motivation to carry out. So I'm at a crossroads. Keep my current lifestyle, eating what I like and doing what I want, and run the risk of developing diabetes, or work to lose weight and exercise and still have the risk, but lessen it.

It should be an easy choice, as I am self-conscious about my weight and it does sometimes give me a lot of grief, but I'm a lazy fuck. I don't want to do it. Uggggh. I know it's going to be difficult.

Hmph. My mom just told me that this is a chance to "fix myself, maybe even your last chance." Wow. You're so helpful when it comes to my self-esteem, Mom. /sarcasm I've never been one to have low self-esteem, it just comes naturally to me, despite everything that happens that should destroy it. That probably won't do it, but that was rude. Stupid bitch.

I just got a letter from the hospital right now, along with my check from work. I should open it and see what it says... Never mind. It was just a survey on how I was treated. I'm not that interested in filling it out. >.>

My check is 2 dollars more than I usually get. Yay. :D

Alright, I've run out of things to say. Later today I'll be going to my dad's house for the weekend, so this streak of updating every day will end. ^^; I need to call my grandma and aunt about my test results, and I can tell my dad when he gets here at 6.

It's not night-time, but I won't be updating tonight. So goodnight, digital abyss.

Pilates Dance And Yoga For Weight Loss and Strength
Is Pilates dance? Aren’t dancing, Pilates and yoga all pretty much the same thing? The answer is definitely no.  Though all three of those types of activities can help you get in great shape. They’re all designed to tone muscles and exercise the body without adding muscle bulk like a body builder might. Pilates, dance and yoga are designed to lengthen and tone the muscles and strengthen the body that way, though concentrated movement. Another benefit is to lose weight and be healthier. See easy diets to help you get started.

Some people do use the term “Pilates dance” because of the fluid and graceful movements used in Pilates. Whether you’re exercising on a machine or doing the movements on your own, there is a rhythm and a flow to the movements that are like a dance routine.

Joseph Pilates, the creator of the exercises, studied dancers to create his movements so there is a definite dance element to the workout. Yoga also has very concentrated and controlled movements, but with more of an emphasis on holding poses and positions than Pilates. Pilates is more concerned with the movements you make than the positions you hold, though both are important.

Dance is concerned with movement, but can combine yoga-like poses and the intensity of Pilates movement to give you a great workout. If you enjoy Pilates, dance and yoga would probably also be exercises you enjoy. You may be able to combine all three or take separate exercises classes for each one, depending on what’s offered in your area.

Some yoga classes are more actively aerobic than others, almost like a type of yoga dance. So there may be classes offered in your area that are more like a type of Pilates dance instead of just one or the other.

As part of your regular exercise routine, Pilates or yoga dance type classes could be the perfect combination to get you the muscle toning benefits as well as the aerobic and fat-burning properties of dancing. Dancing is a little more high impact that Pilates or yoga, though some dance exercises can be very low impact and even tailored to those who need to take special care with their ankles or knees.

Pilates or yoga can really be ideal for almost anyone who wants to exercise. Certain aspects of Pilates can be modified, if necessary, should knees or other joints cause a problem, without making the exercises ineffective.

Yoga is very forgiving of such problems, too. Often someone with stiff joints starts doing yoga and only goes as far as possible or holds certain poses for a short time. The more yoga is practiced, the easier the movements become and the longer the person can hold the beneficial poses.

Dance requires a certain amount of control that Pilates and yoga can help develop, though when you’re doing it for exercise rather than performance, you should worry less about how you appear than how you feel while doing the exercises. Pilates, dance and yoga aren’t the same, but they can go hand in hand for great exercise, and developing balance and strength.
