Return of Enver Likes Music!

This is easily one of my favorite songs ever, cause it hit me in a period of my life where I felt no one had the same emotions I did. Rivers proved me wrong.

Holy cow! I think I've got one here
Now just what am I s'posed to do?
I've got a number of irrational fears
That I'd like to share with you
First, there's rules about old goats like me
Hangin' 'round with chicks like you -but I do like you-
And another one: you say "like" too much

But I'm shakin' at your touch
I like you way too much
My baby, I'm afraid I'm falling for you
'n I'd do 'bout anything to get the hell out alive
Or maybe I would rather settle down with you

Holy moly, baby, wouldn't you know it?
Just as I was bustin' loose
I gotta go turn in my rock star card and get fat
and old with you
'cuz I'm a burning a candle you're a gentle moth
teaching me to lick a little bit kinder
And I do like you - you're the lucky one
No! I'm the lucky one
Holy Sweet goddamn! You left your cello in the basement
I admired the glowing the stars and tried to play a tune'
I can't believe how bad I suck, it's true
What could you possibly see in little ol' 3-chord me?
But it's true - you like me, I like you too
I'm ready, let's do it baby

iTunes Politics
You know, it's funny the way these things go.  For the longest time, the most played two songs on my iPod were the Rolling Stones' "Tumbling Dice" and "Rocks Off" respectively at 1 and 2.  I'm not sure how they got there - I like both those songs but didn't make too much effort to listen to them excessively.  But after I reformatted my iPod last summer (when I switched computers) there wasn't much on there for a while until I started getting seriously back into music piracy (shh!) and began filling it out with a wide variety of stuff.

Anyway, I would often add new songs, become enamored with them for a few weeks, get them ten or twenty repeat listens, and then let them go into the larger pond of my random listening, but the top few slots remained pretty solid.  But months and months of randomized playlists have led to a race... a neck-and-neck competition for the top slot with several challengers, and a quest to be the first song to get 100 listens.

For now, "Tumbling Dice" remains at the top with 88 listens, but tied with it, ranked alphabetically at #2, is "Song with a Mission" by the Sounds and Weezer's "The Good Life," at #3, all with the same number.  In 4th with 84 listens is Vanilla Fudge's cover of "You Keep Me Hanging On," itself a former #1 and longtime iPod staple.  "Rocks Off" has dropped to #5 with 83 listens.  Rounding out the top 10 are:

6. Weezer - Say it Ain't So (79 listens)
7. The Clash - Death or Glory (78 listens)
8. Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar (77 listens)
9. Weezer - Buddy Holly (77 listens)
10. Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want (76 listens)

This all interests me because for the most part I don't make many conscious decisions about what I listen to, but I don't have my iPod on "shuffle" a lot either.  What I did throughout the school year was to make smart playlists of 150 random songs, which would generally last a week given my listening habits.  This way I could hear a random assortment of music, but also not let it get too repetitive.  My iPod is merely 2 gigs, so I only have about 450 songs.  There are times when I listen to an album of my choice - these days Weezer's Pinkerton gets a lot of play.  I used to make my own playlists - I made 8 or so of 15 songs each, designed for variation and mood - but I got tired of them.

From knowing me, something that might surprise people is that there is no Aerosmith even on my top 25 most played.  You have to go to #50 or so to see my most-played Aerosmith song, which by the randomness of the draw is "Janie's Got a Gun" at 51 listens.  That's below such random gems as Steely Dan's "Reelin' In the Years," Age of Electric's "Remote Control" and Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life."  I have so much Aerosmith on there (54 songs) that the odds of one song coming up particularly often is low

Anyway, it all interests me for no reason other than I could have complete control over this - just listen to "Tumbling Dice" nonstop for an evening - but have chosen not to and this is how it's worked out.  I'll keep you updated, I'm sure you're fascinated.

I should probably get a new job so that I don't have time to fixate on crap like this.  Keep on rockin'

Weekend

I apologise if you found my last post a tad bit too existential. I have lightened up considerably since. Well, highlight of my weekend was fried chicken. No, I'm kidding, (though it really was good...yum) the highlight of my weekend was Tint N' Tone - ISH's first Art & music festival  Smiley Hurrah! It was an unprecedented success and it was an absolutely perfect way to showcase the talents of our school (which are numerous I might add). I was completely dazzled by Madhu's performance, she was phenomenal. Hence, I will now give her a standing ovation here in my room lasting 3 seconds only because I am cramping right now. Please excuse me for a moment...........Alright I'm back.

Nikita was cool enough to give me a lift to and back from the State Gallery of Art where the showcase was held and she was flawless with the clarinet, her instrument of hypnotism (haaha, she's gonna murderlise me if she ever reads this), though I was exhausted of all my powers of persuasion before she finally agreed with me. I especially liked the improvised jazz number with Nikita and Vysh on the clarinets, Ajay on the saxophone, Hadi and Mr. Jonathan on the trumpets and, I think(the details are a little blurred, I was drunk on Pepsi Smiley), a teacher from the elementary school on the organ. The other performances missed out on being my favourites by an infinitesimally fine line, which proves what an excellent evening it was. I will be loading pictures of the artistic extravaganza (hee) on my album soon, so go take a look at how pleasantly neat Nik's hair looked (I mean that).

Mr. Jonathan mentioned on Friday that I should get involved in the school's music scene a bit, an offer which I will consider seriously. And since I'm obviously no longer with my Singapore band (Quixotic - remember the name!), things on the music front have been depressingly mellow for me. I mean it's cool practising Weezers and Moldy Peaches in the deathly quiet of my lair but it would be great to get out a bit. I was a Senior Soprano 2 for three years straight in choir, one of my humble collection of achievements. People back home keep telling me its a shame I'm letting my experience go to waste. But I don't know. I'm on the fence right now. Stay tuned for that decision.

Well, technically, it's Monday morning right now - 1:27 am. And I hope it's going to be a good week, you'll know soon enough. Au revoir, this is Mithrandir (I'm a lass though - my Singaporean pals just like calling me Mithrandir a.k.a. Gandalf) signing off.

P.S. This a random, useless fact that would be an utter waste of what might be 10 seconds of your life (I'm a slow reader) but here it is nevertheless:

In 1765, the sandwich was invented by John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, who gave the food its name. The Earl used to order roast beef between pieces of toast for a snack while he was at the gaming tables, it allowed him to keep one hand free to play while he ate.

The Damage In Your Heart
One more time
I have crossed the line
Now you won't be
mine anymore
One more dream
vanished up in smoke
Now I have no
hope anymore

Let it go,
the damage in your heart
Let it go,
the damage in your heart.
I can't tell you how
the words have made me feel
I can't tell you how
the words have made me feel

One more tear
falling down your face
Doesn't mean that much
to the world
One more loss
in a losing life
Doesn't hurt so
bad anymore

Let it go
the damage in your heart
Let it go
the damage in your heart
I can't tell you how
the words have made me feel
I can't tell you how
the words have made me feel

I am in love with this song. And this album (Make Believe). If you like pop rock at all, please check it out. It's simply wonderful.

I have the voice of a boy going through puberty...
Damn colds. I hate how hoars they make me sound. I sound retarded...

So, I spent like, $140 on bras today. And about $100 on music. Yeaaah I know, big spending going on. But first of all, I needed all 8 of those bras. And I am excited to wear them (yes, all of them at the same time :P ). And as far as the music goes....I am seriously affected by what I listen to. Music has a lot to do with my current emotions, and so, I have bought the majority of my music for the year (a whopping 5 CDs + one that I have yet to order online! Wootwoot!). Lets see, my purchases include Weezer's "Make Believe" (wonderfully happy, catchy, pop-rock songs that make you smile), Maroon 5's "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" (a mix of 80s sounds and their older stuff, can't help but wanna dance around all stupid like), Feist's "The Reminder" (Great downtime music, wonderfully clear voice), Andrew Bird's "The Mysterious Production of Eggs" (Relaxing and lyrical), and James Blunt's "All The Lost Souls" (Great 70's funk sound to it). Anyway, the only one I'm lacking is The Boy's Least Likely To's "The Best Party Ever," because they're from the UK and I have to order it online.

Uuuuum lets see, what else? I saw Ira today. Still dreamy as ever. I think he got a hair cut. Maybe. Greg came over when we were talking and suggested that we all go out to eat sometime (plus sis). Ira seemed down with it....so, maybe we will? That'd be sweet!

Also, ran into Amy today. She agrees with me on the whole Ryan thing (that I've put forth enough effort and if he really means everything he said in his msg then he will call me again at some point during the semester).

There's a grad student named Dave in my Litho class. He's already on my annoying list since on the first day he was rude. I was standing IN LINE to get a instructional sheet that the prof., Hilton, had laid a stack of on the table. Just when I got to the table and stretched out my hand to take one, Dave grabbed it up and sent it around the room in the opposite direction. Seriously. Wtf, dude? Greg says he's a huge old school flirt (inspite of his girlfriend) and that he thinks he was flirting. Again, my response is Seriously, wtf dude? That's a pretty backward way of flirting. Oi, men are retarded sometimes. I swear, the guy is like, late 20s/early 30s and he has gray hair. How dare he flirt with me. If he was, in fact, flirting.

Oh, and it's supposed to snow like, 3inches tonight. I really wish classes would be cancelled.
