Wake Me Up When September Ends @ MindSay
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my fathers come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
i just watched Green Day's music video for the song "wake me up when september ends". it is probably the best music video ever. it is more of a short film. it is beutiful, smart, touching and has a great message.
the song is actually about the lead singers fathers death. it is a beutiful song. the video, however, has this sort of anti-war message.
the viedo tells the story of a young couple so in love that they promise never to leave each other. then, the boyfriend joins the army and goes off to war (iraq presumably). he sees all the horrors that come with war. his girlfriend cries and sits missing and waiting. the video closes on the girlfriend looking like she has lost everything.
the message is that war destroys relationships and lives in a way that is unnatural. it doesn't have a anti-iraq or anti-troops message. it has a passifistic message (I am a quasi-passifist).
i was fighting back tears and couldn't help but think of coral and what she would be like if i went to war.
go to www.greenday.com to watch it yourself.
thanks for reading
Mark
P.S. Please don't jump on my back about not going to war. i can't join the services because of birth defects
Speaking of Green Day, and getting on a more serious note, I must say that ever since the "Wake Me Up When September Ends" video was first shown to me, I have had trouble keeing my tears back whenever I hear the song. When I first saw this video, I was going through some hard times. I was with a VERY good friend of mine, and I wouldn't have had it any other way at that moment. But, seeing that video has always drawn tears to my eyes for many reasons, a couple of those reasons being reasons that I intend to keep to myself for my own personal contemplation. But, as for the reasons I'm willing to talk about, I found an entry by misterorange that expresses almost my exact thoughts on the song. It also taps slightly into some of those hidden emotions that the video draws out of me, and the entry goes something like this:

I know exactly what they are talking about. While I wouldn't know from experience whether "war destroys relationships and lives in a way that is unnatural" or not, I would assume from what I know that it most definitely at least come close in many cases. But, I can understand what misterorange gets at when he says "i was fighting back tears and couldn't help but think of coral and what she would be like if i went to war." I am the same way; the video always manages to draw tears from my eyes, and I can't help but wonder what MANY different people would do if I went to war (at least, theoretically, since I cannot actually go into battle due to my Diabetes). My loved ones (that includes my friends; I consider my closest friends as "loved ones"), my girlfriend, my ex-girlfriends, everyone that I care about. What would they say if I was to go off to battle, with the possibility that they may never speak to me in person again? It really makes me think, and the more I think about it, the more I get a sharp pain in my heart, and a flood of tears in my eyes.
If you haven't seen the video, go check it out! Either at Yahoo! Music or Green Day's website, go check it out.
So, in closing, let me just say this, which may be somewhat unrelated to the topic of this entry, but, so what? Screw it.
Amanda. Seth. Justin. Josh. Shannon. Baylin. Stephanie. Kylie.
I love you guys, I miss you, and I think about every one of you every day. Some moreso than others, of course, but I'm sure you understand.
I'll come and see you guys whenever I can, and I'm sorry I can't be there with you guys.
I love you ALL. Everyone reading this that knows me AT ALL, I love you. You guys rock, and you guys make me who I am. But, again, to my friends and loved ones, you guys mean the world to me. Don't forget it. :)
Let's just hope that my dreams don't come true. Kylie, you know what I mean by that.
Everyone who cares about me, keep me in your hearts and your prayers. I'll see you again, I promise. :)

Title: Wake Me Up When September Ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends

drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends
summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when september ends
here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are
as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends
like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends
u knew it was going to end up on my blog at some point... but the psycho thing is.... that when september ends is when black stump starts... and 4 me that is the event of the year..... hmmmm..... so this song's kinda a bit meaningful then.... in the loosest sense of the word.....
I'm baa-ack! Did you miss me? No... didn't think so. Since I last talked to you, I have: seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (It was really good), rekindled my love for the killers, gotten my hair cut & highlighted and been stuck in a cabin with my family for long periods of time.
-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: It was much more 'true' to the book... and who couldn't love Freddie as Charlie? Not to mention that Johnny Depp was Wonka... and although he wasn't hot in this movie, his acting was interesting...
-The Killers: Listened to their cd again, as I haven't listened to it for months... and discovered why I used to like them: They're really good...
-Hair: I got my hair cut last Friday... It's shorter (even though it looks longer... how weird) and very layered. Also orange-blonde highlites... awesome stuff
-Family: Let's just say by Wednesday, I was ready to leave.
That's all for now I guess,
-Katie
