Volunteering @ MindSay
Yep, I'm back at volunteering at the interim. Maria (one of the supervisors) called yesterday when iIwas at school and said that people have been asking about me, and that they need more volunteers or something. I guess since I've been there for so long and they know how I work with the residents, they want me back. So earlier today after school was out, I headed there (its only like a block away from Westgate) and got some volunteer times. I start again tomorrow.
It's not as if I quit for a couple months because I hate it or anything. I enjoy volunteering there-it's a good cause. It's just after I came back from florida, so much had changed around there in the 2 weeks I was gone+I just wanted to kinda relax. Meh, it'll be good to go back there:)

I volunteered at the Children's Museum of Houston for their NanoDays both Saturday and Sunday this weekend teaching kids about nano.
I probably said the same thing over and over all day...
"Do you know what nano means?"
"No"
"It means really, really, really, really small. What is the smallest thing you can think of?"
Answers were: grain of sand, ant, or ball.
"Nano is a million time smaller. I could fit a million nano grains of sand into one grain of sand. There are a billion nanometers in one meter (the distance from your belly button to the tip of your fingers). Could you image cutting a meter into a billion pieces? Can you count to a billion?"
"No, I can only could to 100 (1000)."
"Can you imagine counting to 100 100 million times? It would take you 32 years to count to a billion if you started today."
"WOW!"
"Do you think you can see something that is nano? We can't see it with our eyes, but there are tools we use to study nano things. Did you know that smells are created by nano molecules? Our noses are nano instruments! They might not be able to detect just one nano molecule, but it can tell when nano molecules are present. Scientist have to rely on different tools when looking at anything nano. If you want to see a butterfly what do you use?"
"Eye"
"If you want to see the details on the butterfly wing what do you use?"
"Magnifying glass"
"If you want to see the scales that make up the wing what do you use?"
"Microscope"
"If you want to see the nanoscopic filaments that make up the scales that make up a wing you have to use an even more powerful microscope called an electron microscope."
The three take home messages were:
Nano is really, really, really, really small.
Scientist have to use special equipment to "see" anything nano.
Nano sizes make things different and that is COOL!
We had florescent quantum dots, carbon nanotube models, a giant nanotube balloon, ferrofluid demo, smelly solutions, liquid crystals, nanoproducts (stain resistant pants), nanomedicine demo, molecule kits, build your own buckyball and so much more.
It was a lot of fun, but at the end of the day I had a headache and my throat hurt from talking so much! Don't think I could work at a Children's Museum all the time.
One of the kids said to me, "This is an easy job." I said, "This isn't my job. I am a scientist at Rice University." Her mouth dropped open and she said, "You can't be a scientist!" I smiled and she said, "Your too young!" I was just really glad that she didn't say it was because I am a girl... maybe we are making progress!
So, its the easter weekend. I really don't have much planned. Basically I plan on doing a bunch of stuff that's on my "To Do" list that I made up a few days ago. Mikko was supposed to come in town, but because everything's closed on the days he wanted to go places, he decided to re-schedule until next weekend.
For the last little while, I've been just making copies of CDs I have, for Mikko, because he's been wanting to add some Cradle of Filth to his MP3.
Speaking about mp3s, I don't know if i mentioned this or not, but both of mine are broken..I get a new 4gig within the next couple days for free due to the warrenty, and as for my 16gig..they clamied that i sat on it (which i didnt) so I have to write a letter to the company in order for me to get a new one, even though its under warrenty:|. Meh, oh well...
Tomorrow I'm going to run around town handing in resumes to different places, because I want to actually get a good job as soon as possible. I'm sick of flyers..and I'm not volunteering anymore because I don't really have the time anymore, plus everythings changing around there....
That's pretty much all the news I have for now:P

He was picked from among 30 nominees, one from each big league team, by a committee that included commissioner Bud Selig and Vera Clemente, Roberto's widow.
The 41-year-old second baseman retired after this season, his 20th in the major leagues -- all with Houston. He became the 27th player to reach 3,000 hits on June 28.
Known for his gritty play at several positions, Biggio also is the national spokesman for the Sunshine Kids Foundation, which provides support for young cancer patients. He visits the Sunshine Kids house regularly and often wore the organization's pin on his Astros cap.
Biggio has hosted a yearly baseball party at Minute Maid Park for more than 100 kids with cancer, along with a celebrity golf tournament that has raised more than $2.5 million for the Sunshine Kids Foundation the past 15 years.
The seven-time All-Star began his career as a catcher before switching to second base, where he won four Gold Gloves from 1994-97. He later moved to the outfield, then finished his career back at second.
Biggio helped the Astros reach their only World Series in 2005, when they were swept by the Chicago White Sox. He finished his career with 3,060 hits, 1,844 runs scored and 291 homers, numbers that seem likely to earn him a spot in the Hall of Fame.
Clemente was a Hall of Fame right fielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while trying to deliver relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He finished his career with exactly 3,000 hits.
Since its so late, I'm going to quickly give you guys an update on things:
Again, for the last few days ive stayed at home, only going out for volunteering and sometimes a walk. Today what was weird though was as i was walking home from volunteering I got caught in a thunderstorm..the thunder scared the living shit out of me...it was SO close :| So i started running home and when i was about 4 blocks awya from home it was pouring SO much i coudnt see because the raindrops kept on getting in my eyes..but the worst part when it started hailing. Thank God though-some lady kindly let me stand in her porch till the hail stopped..it only took less than 5 minutes, thankfully. When i got home I was soaked head to toe-I had to change ALL of my clothes. Funny though, because most of the clothes i was wearing were new, and bought with my mom yesterday (yea, i did manage to crawl out from my hole to go shopping:P). But it was just water, not as if any damage had been done.
Anyways tonights going to be a long night, im going to do a lot of Soul Searching (or at least thats what i like to call it). So ill be going alot of writing (not necassarily poems, but just random opinions on things) in my binder (A small three ringed binder that i previously used to keep my piano notes in has now been taken over as a "personal stuff" binder...No, i don't keep a diary...i never have been able to keep all my day-to-day thoughts in one book-i can NEVER keep up). I will try and post what i write on hear as soon as possible, but i dont know if it will be tomorrow, because i have volunteering and have to go to my cousins' birthdays party, so it will be a busy day. But ill see what i can do.
So overall im still feeling really depressed. Ive been just trying to Soul-search and obtain knowledge of things that may make this time easier for me. However, I don't know what eles i can obtain that can really help me. But, ill keep an open mind, and see what I can do.
Anyways, I better stop tryping and get on with it. Bye for now
