This past Friday I went to the Video Games Live concert which was performed by our wonderful Louisville Orchestra. For those who don't know what Video Games Live is, it is basically a concert in which the orchestra plays the music from video games, old and new. The music is played alongside video footage of the games. This is the 2nd year that I've attended Video Games Live and for the second year in a row I had a hell of a time. There were some new additions to the music lineup this year. This year they played music from the Metroid series, BioShock, and Castlevania. Of course, that wasn't all. There was music from games like Tetris to the Halo series. And you can never forget about the music from Final Fantasy.
There was also a special guest appearance by Martin Leung also known as the Blindfolded Pianist. This link will lead you to a YouTube video of him playing the first part of a Mario Medley blindfolded.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHn-L6odDP4 This is no joke. I saw Martin Leung perform this feat of piano playing genius at Video Games Live when he played the same Mario Medley and did much of it blindfolded. Simply put, he is amazing to watch live.
If you're a gamer and you happen to enjoy the music from video games then I suggest you see this event at least once in your lifetime. Just like last year, it was a blast. Last year, was the first time VGL had ever come down to Louisville, Ky. There were old and new fans there for this years' edition. When they come back next year I will be there.
I forgot to make a note of this. If you visit
www.ocremix.org there will be a new download of remixed music from Jade Empire. I know because some of the founders of OCRemix showed up at VGL and talked about it. So if you like OCRemix and you like Jade Empire, check it out.
Peace.
