Florida Gators Showing The Big Money
University of Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley announced on Thursday that men's basketball coach Billy Donovan and the Gators have agreed in principle to a new contract, with an option for a seventh year. Foley also said football coach Urban Meyer agreed to the same structure -- six-year deal, with an option for a seventh.

Donovan will earn $3.5 million per year for each of the next six years, while Meyer will be paid $3.25 million per year. The deals make the two the nation's highest-paid basketball-football coaching tandem, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The contracts will cost Florida more than $40 million through 2013.

Donovan Leaves Florida For Orlando
Billy Donovan, who led the University of Florida to two consecutive national championships, agreed to a $27.5 million deal to coach the Orlando Magic.

The five-year deal trumped any potential extension he was negotiating with Florida.

"Billy Donovan is a winner," Magic general manager Otis Smith said in a release. "We feel he is the right person to develop and maximize the talents of our players. We look forward to Billy leading us to the next level."

Donovan, who turned 42 on Wednesday, will take over a team that was 40-42 this past season and hasn't won a playoff series in 11 years.

I really like Billy Donovan, but lately there haven't been a lot of college coaches who have been successful in the NBA.  It's a whole different ballgame now that he is dealing with millionaire superstars and no longer recruiting kids to come play for him.  Hopefully Donovan will buck the trend and be successful at the next level.  :)

Watching The Cubs
I'm just lounging around the apartment, watching the Cubs' game.  The Reds are beating them, but it's early.

Ken Griffey Jr. is still awesome, even though he's had injury problems lately.

Tonight's basketball game is going to be awesome.  Kinda sucks that I have to work, but at least I'll be able to catch parts of the game while I'm making some money. :)  My money's on Florida for a repeat.

Florida: National Champions

Good game last night.  Personally, I may have enjoyed something that was a bit closer...just for the excitement factor, but it was still fun to watch.  Florida kicked ass!  I totally didn't see it coming.

Catch-Up

Well! I sure have been doing a lot! I finished my semester alive and I received my AA degree (whoop-di-do) from P-HCC. Sadly, I received a B in my final class of my final semester there...it tainted my GPA!!! I still graduated there with a 3.94...which I guess isn't entirely too bad. The nice thing about receiving my degree and transferring is that my GPA resets in the fall and I can work on 4.0 maintenence again. I also went to UF for my transfer orientation. I set my schedule for the fall...and realized that the next year is going to be hell. Before I can even get to med school I need to get my Bachelors in my program of choice: Applied Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. In that program I have to take sciences on top of sciences; in fact, aside from my calculus class in the fall, all I have to take are science classes for the remainder of my tenure at UF. That's right, I don't get "elective", rather I must "elect" to take science courses. Bah humbug. The nice thing though: second semester of my senior year I get to do an internship all semester for fifteen credits. I plan to do it with the Buccaneers for spring training. I also signed the lease on my apartment in Gainesville. I will be residing in the University Commons, though I'm not quite sure yet which room or building. Irregardless, I move in on the 18th of August...woot!

I also bought my tickets to see Star Wars III opening day. I guess I'm going with my sister, her new boyfriend, and her friends. I'm also going to Star Wars weekends at MGM on the 21st of this month with my sister, then sometime that weekend I am also going down to Tampa to see Star Wars with Dan and Devon...that's a lot of Star Wars next weekend! (even for me...) I want to ride the new coaster at Busch Gardens too, before I go to away to college and become devoid of any income.

My buddy Nick went away to New Jersey for our one week off between spring and summer classes. When I saw him in class the day after he got back I asked him how his trip was. He summed up an entire vacation, to see his family in a state 1200 miles away, in one simple sentence, "I got tanked". Wow. Uh...I wasn't sure what to say. A whole week, and that was what he remembered? How 'bout that! When I pointed that out to him, we both decided it was a good way to get out of recalling details that no one REALLY cares about anyway. When you're tanked, you WOULDN'T remember anything anyway, so it all works out. I naturally used it this morning. My friend messaged me online and asked me how my trip to my cousin's was a week ago. I summed it up in one sentence, "I got tanked". It worked! No more questions! Y'all should try it...

Also, I developed a new catch phrase. That's right, I'm ditching the "Mmmkay" of Mr. Mackey that I have been using for six years. My new catch phrase is "I ain't no holla back girl." Courtesy of Gwen Stefani. I do not know what the phrase means, nor am I a girl, but it will have the desired "wtf" effect on people. Right? Right!
