nothing like a good weekend for a change!
not much happened during the week at work, really..basically just met with amanda and marleah again, and decided that i'd be moving in with (more or less against my parents' wishes, and at $680/month+utils instead of the original $650 in the listing, due to some financial hardship on marleah's part).  packed on thursday and had my stuff out friday morning..got stuck in ridiculous traffic trying to head down to uva in time to watch (500) days of summer with diane..didn't get there in time though, so i went to her place in copely and watched away we go, which was a lot funnier than i thought it would be..she showed me around the room a bit before i finally left, utterly exhausted.

saturday i was up ridiculously early to head to the uva @ unc game..6:30 load time, 7AM departure, three buses, seventy people.  i told myself i'd get there at a classily late 6:45, and to my surprise, the buses were basically completely loaded..the only person who got on after me was tj (who i could always point back to as having graduated a year before me as legitimizing my being there).  so between sleeping and talking to mike m. and maggie (katie's friend from swing dance), we finally get to chapel hill over an hour before kickoff, pulling up way past where we'd stopped last time (right next to a parking lot full of tailgaters)..plenty of time to change and get some of that carolina barbecue!

the first half of the entire game was extraordinarily boring, as both teams were failing miserably at getting first downs.  then we traded field goals, and our defense locked down on unc's, and we got the only touchdown of the game, for a final score of 16-3, us.  it was also surprisingly hot that, four days later, i think my forehead is peeling in the one spot that my hair goes to the side..not to mention i got to work my tan, in october.  but hey, a win's a win!  didn't get a traditional 0:01 clock shot, and the score was gone off the boards as soon as the clock stopped, but..it was nice to get out of the 0-3 rut.  and hey, as we all get to say now, we're still undefeated conference play!  XD

wound up heading out with kato and wes, and two of the latter's friends almost immediately after getting back; started off at the two friends' house with smirnoff raspberry and sprite, and cĂ®roc and sunkist, then finally moseyed on over to the x-lounge, camping a bit before heading to miller's, to rapture (where i got a grasshopper that was made with goldschlager instead of creme to cacao..kinda blegh, and not worth the $7+tip), and then made our way back to the x-lounge, where it was definitely jumping.  headed back upstairs, where this huge group of pretty attractive girls (overall) we'd seen at rapture were dancing on the railings..but these quickly turned out to be the type who are all show, and don't actually want to dance with anyone but each other.  kato and wes went across to the other side to talk with these two girls (one white, one black), and eventually went somewhere, which i took to be a good sign (i'll later learn that they only went outside, and just talked before basically up and leaving, hah).

after some wandering around and dancing for a bit near some random people (i.e. by myself), before leaving and running into tj down at the bar, then his friend reggie/rob..i wound up being pushed onto some girl on the stair landing, dancing with her before a club person was like "you're blocking a fire exit, up or down guys, up or down.." to which i of course went down to the floor, thinking they'd follow..but no.  so i was on the floor again making my way through, running into this one girl (of two) who was at the bar the first time we walked in, in like, mini-shorts and six-inch heels when we were there the first time, saying i should've put my "username" on the shirt, so people could find me, to which i gave a haughty laugh.  i then ran into reggie, who was apparently failing at taking a picture of these four female friends of his (as the menu on the camera kept popping up, and the flash wasn't firing), one of whom immediately took a liking to me (i still think she was french for some reason, and i don't know why).  was pretty random, i guess upon seeing that i knew reggie, they had me get in the picture with them..still haven't managed to find it on fb yet, though.

amusingly ironically however, this group of fairly attractive girls (minus one, but you know how that goes) had been at rapture, at a table near where we were standing..and wes, in his ever so smooth way, went to talk to them, motioning towards us, before getting turned away and rejoining.  so anyway, i wound up basically dancing with them for the next couple hours or so.  one didn't seem like she was having much fun, despite being enthusiastic about me joining their picture..the girl in the salmon outfit wes talked to at the bar however, seemed to actually enjoy my presence, obviously amused by the facebook shirt i'd donned, and laughing when i brought out a bit of raving (though unprepared, with no leds).  french girl (no, i don't know if she was actually french) left and came back at one point, and when reggie came back and they finally left she actually asked for my name, though i didn't clearly hear hers..a bit disappointing, since that one girl seemed to having quite the time..

somewhere in here, the shaved-headed friend of wes's whose name i immediately forgot wound up dancing with the black girl from the stairs, and as kato and wes finally came back inside a while later, i rejoined them as the girls left..pushing 2AM, we stand outside for a bit as it closes behind us shortly thereafter, and we somehow cram into a cab back to their place, wes convinced he would be ood to drive me and kato back, but then decides to not, after attempting to get the key in the door.  i tell them i'm good by this point but that i've been starving, so we head over to littlejohn's, parking in front of bodo's, surprised at how dead the corner is.  we drive wes all the way back to college park, and come back to chat and whatnot, not getting to bed until around 5AM, as i dread mass in the AM.

new blogger
Hello everyone, I'm new at this.  The main reason for me to be doing this is it's a way for me to keep in touch with my son and his friends who are away at college.  It's interesting to see how people you' ve known for a while adapt to different colleges.  It would be hard to call them all every week to keep in touch and this seems to be the answer.  I will be writing sometimes maybe about sports.  I am a diehard fqn of UNC, Appalachian State, Atlanta Braves, Oakland A's, Kansas City Chiefs(go figure), Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bulls, Carolina Hurricanes, Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon.  The Tarheels, Braves, Chiefs, and Bulls all won the first game I ever watched of each respective sport, so hence they became my favorites.  The same with Richard Petty in NASCAR.  All this over 30 years ago and they are still my favorites.  I learned to like the A's in the early 70's when all the players grew their hair long and grew mustaches just because the league told them they couldn't.  Rebels!!!!!   The Panthers and Hurricanes are favorites because I live In North Carolina, Appalachian State because that is where my son is a student, and what the heck, they do have an awesome football team.  When Richard Petty drove his last race at the Hooters 500 in Atlanta in 1992, Jeff Gordon drove in that race in his first Winston Cup race.  He was already a star driving quarter midgets and in the Busch series and I could see the potential.   By the way, I used to work with NASCAR in a way and I have from that 1992 race a Winston flag that flew over pit road autographed by Petty, Gordon, and 1992 Cup Champion, the late Alan Kulwicki. Tony Stewart shares my last name and he is just a great driver.  I look for him to do great things with his own team starting next year.  As for myself, I'm happily married with a son at Appalachian and a daughter who is a senior at West Forsyth High school In NC wanting to go to UNC-Charlotte.  She is also captain of her high school cheerleading squad.  My wife and I both graduated from the same school as our children which I think is really special.  The whole family is involved at our church, Center Grove Baptist, in different ways and are not ashamed to say that we are Christians.  Anyway, I think this is long enough for the first blog, hope to hear from people!!!

Look at the first one on the schedule.

Why would they do that?

It really makes me want to cry again. I wish I could be there to fight them. I really wish I could.

The greatest college rivalry of all time

It's undeniable. There has never, nor will there ever be, a college rivalry quite like the UNC/Duke rivalry. When you come here, instilled in you is a passionate disdain for that deeper color blue, a general disgust for Durham, N.C. (just 8 miles down the road), and a deep yearning to see a tear or two or fifty roll down the face of every spoiled, conceited, whiny Blue Devil who ever lived every time we shock and rock their world.

83 - 76.

We, freshman-dominated UNC, beat you, #1 upperclassmen-dominated Dook, at your last home game of the season, on senior night, ending a 19-home-game winning streak.

how do you like them apples?

i bet they're sour and bitter.

sure do taste sweet over here.
