and we're going to the sand dunes this weekend.... for the whole weekend. :) it should be pretty fun, i think. i've only been to the dunes once before and it was crazy. it was easter weekend last year and it was PACKED!!! there were so many people!! it shouldn't be like that this weekend though, and i'm kind of glad for that....
and finally, it's my birthday next monday... i can't believe i'm turning 20.... that's two whole decades that i've been alive!!! it seems like such a long time, but i feel so young, so green....
it's weird how it all works out, i guess....

This week my home base played host to the band "Tool" and to the Goddess Herself, one Ms. Stevie Nicks.
Tool:
Singularly THE most appropriately named band of ALL time. They brought in their own caterers from "Cullinary Underground." By the looks of their dissheveled and chaotic set up, they should STAY underground! They were rude, obnoxious, and their food literally STUNK! I feel badly for the people eating it. I was able to secure a job for The Boy for that day as one of the helpers for Culinary Underground. Even HE thought they were a mess!! Believe me, I've forgotten more about food than The Boy will EVER know, but at least I've been able to develop his palate beyond both fast food and typical home cooking. It was pleasing to know that he recognized crap when he saw/smelled it. *grins*
The man responsible for Culinary Underground is a man (?) by the name of Chris Mitchell (I think). He's Australian by birth, but he's an asshole by nature. We loaned them three of our employees for the day. They were contracted to work from 8 am until 11 pm. No small amount of time!! Primarily the guys were responsible for light kitchen prep, organizing products, bus stocking, and doing the dishes. At 11, they all went to Chris to ask for their money so that they could go home.
The dude started SCREAMING at them, telling them that they weren't going ANYWHERE until the work was done! Okay. No. Not only NO, but HELL NO! I told The Boy to tell him not to talk to him that way as he wasn't his bitch. One of the girls overheard me say it and her eyes got as big as... as.... as, well... something very big! (Saucers is overused *G*) *shrug* Whatever.
The Boy told him that the babysitter called and that he had to leave. He got his money. The other, younger kid, was treated to watching the concert. The kid doing dishes for 15 hours was given a hard time about getting his money. I thought he was going to deck that guy... and, were I one prone to physical injury, I would have condoned it, because he certainly deserved it. As much as I hate to say this, I think the guy was treating the dish technician differently because of his color, and that is just flat-out WRONG!
You see, they wanted to get out of there and didn't care who they walked all over to do so. I'm sorry, but if that were the case, why didn't they just bring people WITH them to do that then? Moreover, they were TWO hours late in getting there in the first place! Uggh.... Boys... I swear.
Anywayyyyy...
Tool had some outrageous demands of their own. They, (you know, the ROCK STARS) wouldn't let anyone see them during their sound check. *blinks* What?? The lead singer didn't want to be seen at ALL! In fact, during the concert, he just sort of hung out by the drummer... a hulking mass of a man. They decided that there would be no smoking anywhere they or their staff might be.... on the ENTIRE property. They determined that there would be no alcohol sales starting EXACTLY one hour after the show started. They also ejected anyone who wasn't with the band from the building during band changes. *blinks* WTF??
The entire day was a "bendoverandkisstheirass" day.... and they are needy little men. There is almost nothing worse than a needy man..... except for the music they play.

Stevie Nicks:
She just ROCKS!! Her staff was pleasant, her dressing room guy was nice as pie, and while the day was 20 hours long, there were no "Artist Freakouts" to deal with, which is decidedly different.
I'm keeping her. :)
Happy Fourth of July Everyone!!
Setlist:
Jambi - opens with Maynard, in redneck accent, saying "CAROLINA!!"
Stinkfist - extended version. this being played live has got me into this song.
46 & 2 - never really knew this song too well, but it was played ridiculously well
---Maynard: "Anyone familiar with Hartsville? I have a step-father that used to live there. If you see him, punch him in the nose"---
Schism - extended version. i can't even express how insanely awesome this was live
Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) - the REAL light show began. the 3 "UFO"ish rings started moving and lasers started shooting
Rosetta Stoned - i like this song ok, but just about everything tool plays live sounds better than the album. not to mention the damn light show! WHOA
Flood - this song is awesome, and i didn't understand why so many people started going crazy when they started playing it. apparently it's one of those rare live songs. i'm very glad that, even if i wasn't aware, i was treated to this gem
Wings for Marie pt. 1 - the lights only got crazier. awesome first part
10,000 Days (Wings pt. 2) - the lights still only got crazier. loved the second part
Lateralus - this is the point where jason just went nuts. he REALLY wanted them to play this live, and they did. and what a fantastic job they did. the drummer for the opening band Melt-Banana (TERRIBLE BAND) got on stage and did a drum battle with danny during the song. mmmmm
---Maynard: "Thank you for your hospitality. We wish we could stay, but we have to get back to our hotel porn."---
Vicarious - this is a pretty damn cool song by itself. live, it's even better. but one thing i DID know prior to this being played live last night was that maynard hasn't sung the last verse of vicarious in a while. well he sang it last night. and that was fucking amazing.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful
Jason shat due to the brilliance that was Tool playing Lateralus live.
