Too Much Food @ MindSay

My Life - Christmassed out.

I love christmas for one single reason - masses of food. Too much food in fact. I don't know how the americans do it, they have the big Thanks-giving feast and then christmas. Big respect to you guys for the cooking as well as the eating and then the cleaning up!

So today I cooked up two 500g (I dunno what that is in pounds and inches) T-bone steaks, for lunch with my one and only son. It's traditonal for us as there is just us two at this time of year. He then proceeds to his mum's house for dinner. I don't know how he copes with all the food.

I put the steaks into a slow oven at six this morning and then cooked them at 80 degrees C for six hours. HUGE pieces of meat and they were so tender, the meat literally fell off the bone. I feel so sick but in a good way.

I am not eating again until I'm 50.

                                                                      Seasoned greetings all ! !

HELP ME!!!
I am at school and I have no food. I havent eaten anything since last night at dinner time. I have only had one bottle of iced tea and that is all today. I really need food. There are no vending machines any more because the shcool is gay. I cant even microwave food because again they took them away too. The lunch line is not open cuz that doesnt open until like last week so I am hungry :[ save me and bring me food.

Around the World in Eight Hours

Epcot is the epitome of American style travel.

Our European counterparts take month long holidays, often to soak in just one area.

Whereas we, with some of the least annual vacation time in the civilized world, feel the need to see as much as possible as quickly as possible. How many times have tourists bragged of “doing” 4 countries in 8 days?

Of course, we can hardly complain- in much of the world the very concept of time off is completely unknown.

This is what makes Epcot the ideal travel destination. You can “do” eleven countries in one day!  Without all that bother with border officials, money changing, passports, and people who don’t speak English!  See all of the tourist traps! Important landmarks! Semi-cultural experiences!  Overpriced trinkets that are beautiful in the store, yet somehow transform into cheap junk before you get it home!

Sarcasm aside, it’s as corny as it comes, and I am a corn connoisseur.

Here’s my impression of the “countries” at Epcot, going around the world…er, lake… from left to right.

MEXICO

Designed to look like the ancient pyramids in Mexico. Your first example of how the designers used “forced perspective” thru out the park. FP means that the design incorporates illusions so that buildings appear different size than they actually are. The pyramid looks impressive, but if you inspect it you’ll see that the blocks get smaller the taller it gets, giving an illusion of greater height.

Having nearly killed myself several times over when climbing the massive pyramids at Teotihuacan, I’m rather underwhelmed. Pretty little garden to the right you can enter thru, the interior is designed to look like a marketplace at dusk. Lots of overpriced trinkets and crappy Americanized “Mexican” food. Good margaritas, though.

This country has a boat ride- pretty tame, meant to be like a tour. What really amazed me is that the vast majority of the actors in the little films all thru the ride where so undeniably white.  Just a few look vaguely Hispanic. I’m bewildered by this. I mean, we’re in Florida, not somewhere in the middle of Siberia where there might not happen to be any Hispanics handy.

NORWAY

An impressive authentic Stave church, lots of Vikings and goblins. Another indoor boat ride, this one is mildly thrilling. By far the best part is the videos of the gorgeous countryside as you exit the ride. They say that Norway tourism skyrocketed after this pavillion opened- I can see why. I could totally live in Norway. If it weren't, like, all cold and stuff.

CHINA

Beautifully well done architecture, typical chinese carry out food. Try to be here when the child acrobats have their outdoor show, it's really impressive.

There's a 360 degree movie here, Reflections of China. What an incredibly beautiful country! I could so totally live in China. If they weren't, you know, communists and put MSG in everything they serve.

GERMANY

Ah, yes, the country of about 25% of my heritage. Lots of men in embroidered shorts with suspenders, and a very cool toy store. No movie or ride.

Moving on.

ITALY

Deciding to ignore the rest of the rich culture and history of this magnificint country, they focused only on the jewel in the crown, Venice. I am totally ok with that. Beautiful rendition of the Doge's Palace. No ride or film, but try to be here when the marble statues come to life. Not in a mechanical Vegas way, but as in real live people who apparently have no need to breathe or open their eyes and can stand freakishly still. Wait until an unsuspecting tourist stops to take a picture with these "marble" statues- they change position so quickly you almost can't see it, and they love to play with the audience, stealing hats or leaning on a shoulder. Very funny!

USA

The USA pavillion is actually the only one that uses forced perspective to make the building appear smaller than they are. Colonial America, Disneyfied.

This is the half way point around the lake, so I think I'll take a break.
