The Lion King @ MindSay

If anyone's wondering about The Lion King, I love it. It's my favorite movie. In fact, it still makes me cry.

Quite a long day.

Went to go see The Lion King Broadway style last night at The Kimmel Center in Philly. Pretty much awesome. That's all I have to say about that.

...

And my little sister fell in love with mini-Simba. They're both nine. Ha!

I think this is him. ---> He's so cute! For a little boy, that is.  AWWW!!!!

I hope she sends him a letter!

P.s. Small cousins need to know that when you are driving with Samara, at 11 at night, after walking around the city for half a day, not SHUTTING UP, that you need to shut up. Or she will hurt you. Accursed child.

That is all.

Last night I went to see Lion King the Musical with my mother, sister, daughter, two nieces (who are actually tristaprez's daughters) and a friend of my oldest niece. We had a wonderful time and was one of the best productions I've ever seen.  I loved the look of the musical and the sets were fantastic. The scene of Mufasa's death was extrememly moving. Grown men were crying and dabbing their eyes with their handkerchiefs.  Later, there was a scene with the lionesses and the rest of the kingdom mourning Mufasa's death.  It was so beautifully done that I got chills. Gugwana Dlamini, the woman who played Rafiki,  lead the song of mourning in traditional South African fashion and I almost lost it.

My favorite songs were the songs that were not featured in the movie as songs -- they were arranged from instrumental pieces in the movie.  "They Live in You" was a great song sung by Mufasa during the scene where he tells Simba that the spirt of their ancestors make up the stars in the sky. Later, it was sung as a reprise, "He Lives in You", when Simba decides to return to the Pridelands. Another beautiful song was "Shadowland" sung by Nala, Rafiki and the ensemble when Nala decides to leave the Prideland to search for food. The African chants and influences infused into the production made it feel like a spiritual experince. I loved it and I would definitely go see this production again.

The girls and me. Look at how much taller "Little Miss TristaPrez No.1" (seen left) is than me! I'm wearing heels!

Tristaprez's daughters visit us from Las Vegas every summer and her oldest one usually brings a friend with her. Next summer we will be visiting them because "Little Miss Tristaprez No. 1" will be graduating from high school! I can't believe it! Where does the time go!

Jan and I just got back from a night in the city.  We stayed at the Stamford and ate dinner at Bistro 1, a real swanky place that cost us over $100 for entrees and main meals.  It was lovely gourmet food but the kind that doesn't really fill you up - so later on we ordered some room service :)

The highlight of the night though was the broadway musical of The Lion King at The Regent Theatre.  We were open-mouthed and enthralled at the performance that totally immersed you in its vivid colours, elaborate costumes, set design and awe-inspiring african chants that swelled to capture your heart.  I think the puppets really stole the show in the end.  What a creative genius who came up with the hybrids of human/animal, human/plant.  It was so excitingly beautiful.  The characters, particularly Scar were very similar to the movie which was great to see, but the musical itself was a wonderful and different adaptation of the movie with additional songs that were just as good as the original.

See it if you can! :D
