Television @ MindSay
With the amount of revolution occurring in telly machinery of late it is definitely worthwhile to understand numerous of the key improvements. This information to liquid crystal display televisions (LCD) scrutinizes the particular pros of this technology. This insight provides you the facts on how to get the greatest image and explains numerous of the vital traits to beware of with Liquid Crystal Display televisions.
There are presently 2 obvious advantages with LCD tellies over Plasma TVs. The first is that LCD televisions may possibly be substantially easier to look at when compared against a cathode ray tube (CRT) model. This is essentially because televisions screens are a lot more brighter with a higher contrast and flicker free picture. LCD TVs by and large work right in nearly any manner of room lighting from bright to ambient. Next, LCDs also have a higher native resolution than plasma televisions of the same dimension making them just right for HD output. Even if plasma televisions are currently superior for total display size, as more and more television channels come in high-definition TV (HDTV), LCD equipment will for sure come to the front. How Liquid Crystal Display Tellies In Reality Work?
LCD technology is reasonably tricky & growing each & every day. This technology is based upon the fact that liquid crystals are, in their usual state, twisted. The aptitude of the crystals to permit light through can be varied by applying electric current. Very basically put, a light source is passed through a liquid that contains crystals held between 2 polarised screens. By allowing the exact degree of light to go through, the desired picture is formed.
The films are Kurosawa- one of the greatest directors of all time. we just saw the Bad Sleep well. a taut and dark treatment of corporate corruption in post war Japan. The super brilliant hunk Toshiro Mifune plays a restrained tortured and obsessed soul who moves the film from a sad and awkward wedding to a startling --- no that can't be type ending.
Then I started two books, the second part of the Cairo trilogy by Mafouz- this one is pace of desire and the the protagonists of the first novel are aging and the new generation coming into their own. It's a detailed and amazing look at Egypt before independence and the relationship among family members in an upper class family.
The TV thing is funny because we resist wildly popular shows until so many people mention it that we cave in. this was the case with Seinfeld, sex and the city, Six feet under, and The Sopranos. Only deadwood and Curb your enthusiasm did we jump right into on our own. So this week we finally check out Mad Men and were blown away. My husband remembers more about 1960 than I do (he is sooooooooooooo much older than I)
And he claims they got everything right on. and all the smoking and drinking. and the repressed emotion among the women.
What are your major sources for news? Do you read newspapers and magazines, watch TV, or use the internet? Do you go to traditional sources or non-traditional sources?
I didn't know until posting on Mindsay that newspapers are now pretty much considered for older folks and the internet for younger folks, so it will be very interesting to have some feedback.
Just recently, another young person had an article in the SF Chronicle about this subject and he says: "What's the new what? For political junkies like me, my news consumption is a lot different fromm old-media consumers like my parents." (to see the full article go to: www.youthradioflows.wordpress.com )
This is a youth radio series "that explores how youth culture is transforming identity, industry, politics and society." He'll be posting from the Democratic National Convention next week.

From the Blogmaster: Pilot season is not when the airports train pilots....at least not in Los Angeles. Pilot season is that crunch time, between about January 5 and April 1, where writers who have created new tv show ideas create what is called a first episode, or "pilot", to show to studio execs, when they pitch their new show. It used to be that pilots were the easiest way to break into show biz because the new writers and producers typically had less cash to spend than the more established folks but now, seems like it's harder to get on a pilot than it used to be. Here is another great article from Jack Turnbull at Actorsite. If you are in L.A. check out his website (link below). Good resource. Enjoy...here's Jack (p.s. this information is the copywritten property of the author):
Dear Readers,
We are going to try to flag you on the PILOTS that are out there
as we learn about them.
It's good for an actor to download sides from these projects and
practice them so that you get a feel for the writing of 2007
projects (more on how to use this material later).
Since we have many sources of information, I want to let you know
that we will provide as much info as we can, but it's up to
YOU to do your research and learn the beats and rythms of the
shows.
It's also UP TO YOU to develop a relationship with the casting
offices that are doing these shows. OUr members with strong skills
and who are READY to book a pilot have found it helpful to build
relationships through Actorsite workshops and Scene Fiestas.
That way, when your representation sends in your headshot,
or when you send it in yourself, casting ALREADY knows who
you are and is comfortable introducing you to their producers.
Good sources of additional information:

(Put in the name of someone connected to the
project, like the writer or producer or director and you'll get
additional information on their creative endeavors.
So here are a few pilots casting this January...We'll keep adding to
the list as time goes on. we've included links for more information
for our MEMBERS ONLY. All actors can act on the information in
this newsletter, whether you are a member or not.

HOW TO USE THIS INFORMATION!
=========================================
REMEMBER, IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE WORK!
1. Download the sides from Showfax and practice the scenes
to get a feel for the writing and style of the project.
If you can get a copy of the script, that's even better.
(If you can't find the material, ask on the ACTORSITE LA ACTORS
FORUM, someone might have it.)
2. Make TWO copies of the sides and bring them to your
ACTORSITE WORKOUT or to your acting class or coach and work them,
work them, work them, so that you have a great feel for
how this writer/producer(s) put together their dialogue
and how they construct their scenes.
3. Practice the scenes varying the elements of speech.
Since TV is usually quick paced, make sure you PICK UP
THE PACE and can hit the emotional marks quickly. For films,
BE SENSITIVE TO THE MATERIAL and work it MANY DIFFERENT WAYS
so you are directable.
4. Think about how the project is shot and how the project
will "feel' to the viewer. Use this to plan your performance
of the material. Again, if you can do this SEVERAL different
ways, you are directable. If you "lock in" to one way, you are
"wooden" and not directable.
5. Use this material to inspire you to GREATER CREATIVE PROJECTS
of your own. Take a character you like and take their thoughts
and write a 100 word monologue for them, so that you more
fully get "into" that character.
AND, IT'S ALSO ABOUT THE MARKETING!
1. Send a postcard to casting to talk about HOW BUSY you are
and HOW SUCCESSFUL and IN DEMAND you are in this competitive
world of HOLLYWOOD.
2. Contact your representatives and make sure they have submitted
you for this project and make sure they know how important
it is for you to be seen for projects of this calibre.
3. IF you see a character that is right for you in the
SIDES on Showfax, then DROP OFF a headshot/resume at the casting
office or MAIL using CLEAR ENVELOPES. MAKE SURE you put a sticker
on your headshot suggesting that they see you for that
specific role.
4. In PILOTS and FEATURES, there are TONS of roles that are
cast quickly, so if you don't see a role you are exactly
right for, then send over a headshot/resume and PARTICULARLY
if the CASTING DIRECTOR/ASSOCIATE/ASSISTANT know you and are
familiar with your work, they may call you in to read for
one of the roles not listed, OR, they may see you in one
of the roles listed and call you in for that.
5. This is a "REMIND ME WHO YOU ARE" business and Casting
personnel need to be reminded who you are. If you are not
right for a role, you aren't called in and your headshot goes
in the trash (you still REMINDED them who you are). But if you
ARE exactly right, you are HERO to casting since you become
one of the "finds" that casting can show their producers!
Make yourself a HERO to casting by reminding them who you are!
MOST IMPORTANTLY,
1 Use this information for INSPIRATION! Hollywood is not
about personal fulfillment. It's about MANUFACTURING FILMS AND
TELEVISION SHOWS. Don't take it personally if you don't get
called in on the role YOU pick. Remember the ROLES PICK YOU.
The fact that they write this material for someone like you should
let you know that you are on the RIGHT TRACK and heading to
success!
2. If you WORK HARD on the material and use it to INSPIRE YOU
to DO MORE COMPELLING ACTING PERFORMANCES, then you will have MORE
SUCCESS down the road...KNOW THAT AND FEEL SECURE that
this HARD WORK WILL PAY OFF!
3. The fact that they are producing SO MANY projects should
help keep you motivated as you work your way into the conciousness
of HOLLYWOOD. Remember, if they don't know you, they can't hire you...
4. Get to the ACTORSITE WORKOUTS and STAY SHARP...if you are
out of practice, then you will definitely NOT be sharp!
IF YOU FAIL TO PREPARE, YOU PREPARE TO FAIL!
NOW GET BUSY!
All the best,
Jack
