In the Mist

Early Tuesday morning I got up to find my apartment and neighboring woods enveloped by fog. In the distance I could hear the loud calls of geese and the air was warm, magical. I quickly put on my coat and, still in my pajamas, went out for a walk with my camera to see what I could capture with my lens. It was amazing.

The island seemed imaginary, like a place out of Fairy tale and legend.

I love how the mist transformed the landscape. It was like I was still asleep, walking in my sleep, unsure where I would end up next, or what I would find waiting for me on the other side of the woods.

The water was clear and still, mirroring the trees and revealing fallen leaves. I could've walked across the water to still places unknown... and wet.

Evidence of other creatures appear in muddy prints on some of the rocks along the shore, a sign I wasn't alone. Those geese were out there somewhere. I could hear them call at each other, obviously aware I was there. The sound of them moved away from me in the direction I was walking. Unseen, they were a distant wave of sound breaking the cloudy silence.

There were MANY geese out that morning and they hid in the fog. You can barely make them out on camera as well as by eye sight. I regretted not bringing any bread crumbs. I bet they would've moved toward me and been less afraid if I can come with food. This was as close as I could get to them. Their feathers were evident all along the shore, so were their prints, but they dared not venture close to shore. These were wild geese, avoiding all human contact in a world all their own.

To my delight, I spyed a very large, lonely white-as-a-ghost mute swan swimming a few feet away from the geese on the other side of the island. I just stood there in awe of him. He turned to me, swam a bit closer to me, but like the geese, he didn't get too close to shore. I sang to him a wordless song. Seeing him was like falling in love. I considered his presence a good omen. The mystical swan is a source of legend, an greatly auspicious sign of grace, a poet's boon. I had never seen a swan in the nature reserve. This had me bouncing with joy. I really wanted to capture him on camera, but he appeared as only a ghostly speck of white in the mist.

I am happy that the swan appeared for me this week. He tells me that the new year will bring inspiration and success with song and poetry -- to have the swan as a spirit guide denotes the ability to see into the future, to have the ability to transform ones circumstances for good, and to recognize the beauty within myself and others. I will endeavor to create beauty where ever I go. I have a swan feather at home. Best time is now to use its medicine. The swan is a Samhain bird. He represents the soul, music, poetry, purity... power. Thank you, Swan, for appearing to me.

swan lake
Hello there. There is a pin poking me in the head and it's no fun!
Today I had an inspiration in ballet. It requires some background notes though if you don't mind.
The ballet Swan Lake which was written about a million years ago has the story line somewhat like this:
There is a prince. It is really close to his birthday and he goes into the woods to hunt. He stops by a beautiful lake and sees a swan and thinks, "Yum. I love swan meat." Because they actually ate stuff like that back then. People probably do now too, but whatever. Anyway, he gets his bow into position to shoot the lovely, graceful white swan. He is about to release the arrow when the swan turns into a woman. She is really really beautiful and he thinks, "I like her." Then he goes and talks to her and asks what she's doing because she just turned into a person from a swan for heaven's sake! She was put under a spell by this evil magician and until she marries her true love (why is it always like this in fairy tales?) she will live as a swan by day and a woman by night. Well, they dance (this is a ballet after all) and then he sticks two fingers in the air which means in ballet sign language, "I love you and pledge my undying love to you."
This is a good thing, right? Well, it might be, and it might not be. Either way, she turns back into a swan for the day.
The next day is the prince's birthday. It wasn't just any birthday. It was the birthday where he would become king so in the tradition of fairy tales there is a huge, grand ball where he needs to pick his bride. The prince soon to be king wasn't too happy with this because his lover was probably swimming in a lake a couple miles away. He goes to the ball anyway (I mean it's his birthday party! He couldn't just skip it...) And is polite, and very hot, to all of the ladies there whom he doesn't want to marry.
Then the clock chimed and walking down the steps is the swan lady that he pledged his undying love to! He's really really happy and if she's a little sassier and flirtier and maybe more arrogant than before he doesn't notice. He was just drunk on love I suppose. Or the punch...
They dance forever. She likes him, you can tell that much. He loves her. It's way obvious. Then he calls the attention of all of the party-go-ers and does the little two fingers thing THEN ASKS HIM TO MARRY HER!!! She says yes then!!!
BANG! The evil music starts. The prince realizes it isn't his true love and goodness gracious he just proposed to some freaky suducteress (sp) lady!
He runs from the room and through the forest! Branches are tearing at his clothes and icy rain drenches him but he doesn't notice for his mind is full of his lady love the swan! Not the lady in the black tutu that looks like the swan lady!
Near the lake the evil magician steps into the path of the prince. They fight and fight. The prince finds out that the imposter lover lady is named Odelle and is the magicians daughter, put under a spell to look like his lover Odette!
I don't remember who wins the battle but finally the prince gets to the lake. He sees Odette, his true love and knows because he broke his vow that they can't live and be together. Because of this, they both choose death together rather than a life apart and commit suicide but jumping into the lake.

There's the story. Now here comes my moment of inspiration. Me or some other writer chick should switch it so it's a swan prince or a duck prince or a quail prince and the princess is at the ball. Somebody all ready made it the swan prince but there was also a real prince so the gay prince thing is something I don't want to recreate.
Well, my TV show is on.
G2g,
Erika

The Thin Line

Do we all have certain romantic tendencies? Not just in love, but in life in general. Making life more dramatic. 'I let the thunder be my exclamation'

Today was kinda like one of those days that didn't really make alot of sense. It kinda all happened at once. This is usually a sign that I should just let go for alittle while. Just release myself. As drama would play out though, the irony is hidden in the fact that I can't release when i have to who I am now to nail the performances this weekend. I need me. I can't let go of myself when i need to. Man life is just awesome.

The truck i wrecked has been sold.THANK GOD. He provides for me all day long. 'Why' you ask? I'll tell you why. He loves me. He loves you. He's going to provide a replacement vehicle as well. I did some serious truck shopping last night. I picked up a Truck Trader mag, surfed Autotrader.com, Ebay, and the Classifieds. I found a good list of nice trucks all in the price range. God's timing is the route I want to take though. Yeah, you're thinking "you say that now, but I've been waiting on God for months, years.." I'm sure it gets tiring, but I'm willing to receive what God has for me when He's ready.

My sleep habits have been horrible this whole week. I'm running on probably 4 hrs a night. It surprises me in the morning though. I'm not really too tired till about 6th period when I am knocked out in Mrs Timberlakes class. Oedipus just makes me sleepy. I think my tin dinosaur can survive one more attack. You never know though. Its strange how when ever I bring a cute creature around most people they just want to destroy it. I mean a tinfoil dinosaur...."lets crush and mangle it...YEAH!...or better yet throw a lunchbox at it....or throw it in a trashcan..."
