New project: any interaction with someone that seems...significant or interesting or...something. If it has that je ne sais quoi that makes me feel like writing about it, I'll write about it. Try to capture the moment. Only had one of those recently, but I think it'll be an interesting...something. Project? Exercise? Something about my mundane and uninteresting life that might capture some kind of everyday beauty. Changing names for obvious reasons, and from time to time, I may just...make up names because, frankly, I don't know everyone's name. ANYWAY. The first one that I actually decided to write about happened last night.
David Eli
"That," he proclaimed, gesturing widely at the afterglow of the sunset, "that is glorious."
I looked up at the ribbons of dying light silhouetting the smoky lavender foothills. "Really is beautiful, isn't it?"
David, shocked to be inciting a response, looked back up the stairs. "What's your favorite color?"
I returned my eyes to the dying sun, no longer actually visible over the hills. "I dunno; that orange is pretty dazzling. But I'm also kind of partial to that teal."
David grinned. "I like that shy greeen. Not very noticeable..." He gestured to a thin band of jade in the ribbon. "But it still makes its cameo." He took a few more steps toward the darkening lot. "See you Thursday."
"Looks like it," I agreed, sitting down on the cement stairs. And so walked away David Eli.
And it was truly glorious, I realized. The wind, unusually warm for a Northern California mid-January, blew through the valley, whistling in the trees, kissing the street lamps, and winding its way down to the delta cities. The sunset, so brilliantly serene, faded to quiet twilight, and the last few students scurried off to their evening classes.
