New Release Of The Week - Story Of The Year
Story of the Year's The Black Swan -- Story Of The Year or SOTY as they are also referred to, come back with a bound and determined attitude to take the success they felt on their first album, but couldn't generate from their second album, and get it back. This is their first album with Epitaph Records, but they've brought back their Page Avenue producer John Feldmann in hopes of reigniting the flame of success. SOTY is to be a headliner the upcoming 2008 Vans Warped Tour and then heading to Europe to play the Groezrock festival, after which a tour of Australia is in the works, all in hopes of promoting the new album. Epitaph is brutal.

So let's talk about this. They're saying their first single off of this album is "Wake Up" but it sounds far, far too much like a cookie-cutter single to have it be worth much of anything in my opinion. Trite lyrics like "one by one the pieces fall" and "are we missing what it is to be alive?" Whether I'm missing it or not is my problem, not your's; and if I am missing what it is to be alive, I certainly don't think I should be taking advice on it from you. That's not to say it doesn't sound good, it just sounds like everything else. So if you're okay with a copy of a copy of a copy, then sure, "Wake Up" is the perfect single for you. However, if you're looking for the real gem of this album, if you'll direct your attention to "Tell Me (P.A.C.)" you might actually find something worth being interested in. While a good deal of the album sounds like itself, and this track really isn't all that different, it does seem much more explosive and anthemic -- much like their singles from Page Avenue which is really what we're all looking for. The piano interlude with his desperate voice truly is what makes this song. SOTY also tries to break out a little bit with "Terrified" where they actually play the piano and it's a little bit more gentle, a little bit more emo, but again, it just doesn't stand out enough to make it really something.

The entire album subscribes to fast and hard slinging guitars and screaming, emotional lyrics. But it really doesn't set itself apart as anything special and something that you need to go out of your way to get. A decent listen except the songs all blend into each other. They don't distinguish themselves from one another. All in all, if you want angst and guitars and screams, go listen to "F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X." by The Fall Of Troy. They do it much better than these guys.

Every thought that you know i'm thinking May as well be a knife stuck in my back

There really isn't all that much to tell about the concert.

From First to Last was great! and mighty crazy. They played right after the local band Adair who, by the way, are VERY impressive ... check 'em out. I thought that they would at least be right before Story of the year, the headliners. I just thought they would, judging by their popularity in the music scene. I got the feeling that every girl that was there, was just there to sleep with Sonny moore though, and that's never pretty. Everytime I die played after FFTL, and I wasn't all that impressed. I've heard their songs, good beats... but, there's something about them that I personally don't really like. I don't hate them, but I don't love them. Every other word from them was questionable. Which normally doesn't bother me, but when I choose my music I'd like to know that the artist at least has a better vocabulary than a Junior High Boy who just learned some new words.
I mentioned before that I wasn't a Story of the Year fan, and some of you will be mad at me for saying/doing this. BUT, they were taking forever to get their skinny butts on stage. Therefore, we left. There will be other chances. It's not like I don't like Story of the year, it's just that it isn't really my kind of music. Kill me.

So basically, From First to Last was the only one besides Adair that impressed me. Here was the song set-up...

Failure by Designer Jeans
Note to Self
NEW SONG!... Heck yesss. All I know is that the chorus was like "shame, shame on me. Come again" It's stuck in my head.
Kiss me I'm contagious.
Another new song.
Secrets don't make friends.
Ride the wings of Pestilence.

And that was it. It came and went in a heartbeat. It was fun, and a good show to start this year out with.

-karolyn-
p.s. I am so sore! my rib cage is all bruised and for some reason my ankles are all cut up. Go Figure.

p.s.s.
I've recruited 3 guys for THE CUPCAKE CREW.

can I touch your leg? do I make you sweat? ...

From first to last, Everytime I die, Story of the year, Adair ... really great show. For the most part.

Three words.

CIRCLE PIT = PRICELESS.

Oh, and no pics. Camera's weren't allowed... retards.
more later!

-Karolyn-

p.s. he sent me 25 messages ... I think he was jealous. Gotta' love that.

it's taken me so long, to sing a simple song. I don't belong.

This week has been weird.
Me & my mom have been fighting

on and off, but we're good now.
Oh, new pic ... it's somewhat
sad, because my face is so white
you can't see my nose. I didn't
even edit that one. Oh well, it's okay.
Tomorrow is the concert... Yay!
I'll take pics and post those on
thursday probably. On Sunday
my youth group is going to see
"end of the sphear" ... at the movie
theatre. Should be interesting.
Let's see... He called yesterday.
I might be developing a crush,
and I'm totally scaring myself...
I haven't had a crush in a long time,
and now I keep checking my phone

to see if he's called, and all that stuff.
It's weird & new to me. Man, I

am SUCH a homeschooled nerd.
Hooray for that!
I decided to start up a gang. Yup,
we're going to beat people up
when they're mean. So far I'm the

only person in the gang ... yeah,
so if any of you are interested, hah.
I think we should call ourselves
  THE CUPCAKE CREW.
 or something along those lines.
I have enough money for a mission
trip next year, I'm just not sure
where God wants me yet. It might
be back in Haiti, but it might

be somewhere totally different.
We'll see...
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I'm going
to start TEACHING a small group
on wednesdays night @ youth. Crazy, eh?
Yee-haw.
I've started sewing, heck yess! to
add to my nerdiness. No, it's cool...
Now I'm taking in all my Band tee's,
so that when I wear them... you can
possibly tell that I am a girl (haha)
Not that I don't look like a girl, but
if you haven't noticed, many boys these
days look likes girls. I can't let 'em

invade my territory now, can I?

Enough about ... that.
Man, I guess random is making

a come-back with me. Darn it all.
Nah, I like it. I'm over it. Let's party.

keep rolling in. alone you float. she won't let go.

This is just another hopeless music post.
Skip if you wish.

So i'm going to see
From First to Last
Every Time I Die
Adair
Story of the year

(i'm not a big fan)
and possibly..
HE IS LEGEND.
I hope he is legend plays.
That would make my week.
It's on the 18th.

It should be interesting.
My dad let us order
the tickets with his credit card,
and they're WILL CALL only.
Which means that he will have to be
there to pick them up, so he can
show some ID.

I know it's not a big deal,
but it's like when you're sitting
at home, watching T.V. and something
like a Tampon commercial
comes on, and it's really
weird watching it with your Dad. Or
when you're watching a movie with
either of your parents and suddenly
a steamy love scene comes on.
It's just uncomfortable!
SO, I'm sure that there will be no
steamy love scenes, or tampon
comments made while standing in line
for the concert. BUT c'mon! they're
teenagers, of course they're going
to say/do stupid things.
I'll warn my Dad.

It'll just be Roxanne
and me, during the concert.
It's a fftl concert, so it's
sure to be a SCENE CONVENTION.
And I'll probably come home
all fired up or pissed at people,
but that's okay ...
Keeps me Young.

OH YEAH, and on the note of concerts and such.
I talked to Gary, who is in charge of this concert
that normally happens twice a year, but
we haven't had it since 2004.
Anyways, I do believe that I have talked
him into getting Kids In the Way again.
I'll have to help though. By passing out flyers,
and all that fun stuff. I might even make them.
This won't happen until august or september if it does.
Anyways, KITW might stay at my house.
Exciting, eh?
I want showbread to come.
Oh well.
