Standard @ MindSay

The Standard
A lot of Americans say that other countries hate us for various reasons...our freedom...our wealth...our being number one in everything we do.

I'm sorry, but that's just bullshit.

The PATRIOT Act has taken away rights like Civil Liberties, which are guaranteed by the 9th Amendment. Torture has been defined to allow practices like waterboarding. The FISA courts grant warrants to operate surveillance on citizens without letting them know that they are.

The wage gap has been increasing. The big three auto companies are dying, and Michigan along with it. Jobs are being outsourced everyday. The national debt is in the trillions. Canada's dollar is now worth more than the US. Yeah, Canada.  A good chunk out our population is in debt up to their eyeballs.

The country is becoming retarded.  Our education isn't even ranked in the top ten.  If we picked a fight with a country like China we'd get our asses kicked if we don't use nukes. Let's see...the only thing we're probably number one in right now is obesity.

So then why do other countries hate us?  They can't us without a reason.  What did we do to piss them off?

Lets go back to the beginning of this country.  This country set a standard for the world more than 200 years ago.  That standard was enumerated in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  The standard was to change the way we think of government.
  • The government wasn't supposed to oppress their people;  it was supposed to liberate them.
  • The government wasn't supposed to tell you what to do for the good of the country; it was  supposed to inspire you to help your country and yourself.
  • The  government wasn't supposed to be a  representation of despair, slavery, and unfeeling; it was supposed  to be a symbol, a symbol of hope, freedom, and human dignity.
The world reacted to this, violently, but it eventually followed our lead.  We eventually gained status as a glorious leader of the world.  We became a symbol of freedom, a symbol of good, and a symbol of common good.

And look at us now, 200 years later.  We have strayed from our beginnings.  We have become fat and apathetic.  We have kept the symbol but lost its meaning.  We have taken our old image of ourselves and used it for fueling a war in Iraq, and because of that old image, the world believed us.  They trusted us, so they sent their people to help us.  But now they see that as a mistake.

We have dropped the standard. That golden standard said why America was the best, not just because we were Americans, but because what it used to mean to be part of the best God damn country on the face of the Earth.  That standard gave you a real right to be patriotic.

The good news is, we only dropped the standard; we didn't throw it away.  So let's pick it back up.

Do we need a defined standard American English language?

Do we need a defined standard American English language?  There is some debate over the definition of what "standard English" is or ought to be.  Some scholars propose each dialect or vernacular of English is a "standard" unto itself and should be valued as part of the whole.  Others are dogmatic about the need for some genuine perimeters to an academic standard English.

What is taught in high school English classes?  Various publishers differ on minute details of punctuation or usage of some words.  Still, with the standardized tests as assessments used to determine learning and academic prowess, it seems only logical that some knowledge of a standard English is necessary.

Other standard languages present fewer complicating factors. The pre-eminence of Parisian French has reigned largely unchallenged throughout the history of recent French literature. In British English, the standard Received Pronunciation is based on the language of the upper classes in the London area, and is based on the sociolect that comes out of the British private boarding schools.

In the United States, there are variations of American English throughout but the General American accent is considered unofficial because it is perceived as accentless by most Americans.  (wikipedia.org)

I find this subject fascinating simply because communication is what connects us as people.  Have you ever tried to communicate with someone whose language you cannot understand?  It can be completely frustrating, for sure!  Communication is also much more than just a series of words strung together.  There are numerous ways words can be strung together to say different things.  Consider the following (from David Crystal's The Stories of English):

  • the man the woman saw
  • the woman the man saw
  • the woman saw the man
  • saw the woman the man
  • saw the man the woman

Depending on the word order chosen, the meaning is completely changed.  Over the centuries, our language has simplified according to our culture. It is far less specific, challenging, and communicative than in ages past. For example, today, in the US, our culture is "instant".  We want everything NOW!  So, our language has also become concise and, in my opinion, bland.

"It is enough to tell you that as some of my worst comrades, who are out of the way of doing me harm (having gone out of the world by the steps and the string, as I often expected to go), knew me by the name of Moll Flanders, so you may give me leave to go under that name till I dare own who I have been, as well as who I am."  (Defoe, Moll Flanders)

Today, Moll might have simply said, "Call me Moll Flanders.  Everyone else does."  Yet, we comprehend what is said even though it was written in 1722.  Our basic language structure has not changed but for some spellings and minor pronunciations.  Still, the written language is usually something different than the spoken which adapts to the audience and function of the communication.  We speak differently to our families and friends than we do, generally, in an academic or business surrounding.  We speak differently online than we do face to face.  So again I ask ... Do we need a defined standard American English language?

Interesting huh?  I guess I found my paper topic!  lol

Getting Profit For Company
You know I really think no matter how good a product is, if the company can not sell it, it means nothing.

How can a company survive with that?!

I really think so.  After a while I struggling to fight to get more opportunity to hand on technical thing, now I really don't care much that now.

The fact is, no matter how good your technical skills are, if you don't know how to present your product to the right customers,  then you are out.

What so matter with it?  Your products are good, your technical people give world-class support, your products are convincing, etc etc blah blah, but you don't know how to sell your products? You ended up nothing. (or sales person can not sell them, those that talk)

Ask business men what do they matter most?

Profit? High Technology? Quality?

We know the answer.

No gain then how much they can invest the technical resources on the technology then?

Saying research, some more.

Each engineering resources or effort a company spends on all are about time & time is ? Money.

Really, if I let my company see the hope that it can sell this product now, my boss & sale manager will be very delighted already.

They don't really care much how good the technical aspects in this particular product.

Isn't it common to business men?

Good product without good marketing mind, all ended up zero.

Engineers eat what?  Even with constant salary also I feel shame on it.  Because product which I developed, can not be sold ?! What to proud of then ??

Of course we don't sacrifice the quality of the products.  But basically it should be up to an acceptable standard.  To get higher standard?  More engineering effort or resources needed.  very realistic rite. No pain no gain.

I wish to see product which my team developed soon or later appear in the market.  Now perhaps just some little bit of physical improvement (make hardware more attractive)

Overall, I'm glad to say, "hey, this product does work, have the content, you know?"

& really if in job interviews people ask me what skills do I cultivated in current/formal company, I might answer them "My skill? My greatest enlightenment or skill set that I developed is knowing how to make company products sell able, get businesses, gain profit"  HA HA Smiley

My team should celebrate once this product go into the market. Smiley

Applied standard deviation for performance... Possible?

Tracing through 3 or 4 blogs, I forget where I started but I ended up at mrsminer  's blog.  It was 120% my speed, she got my juices flowing so I took the time to reply, it did take a little while but I enjoyed every second of it, this is the kind of abstract alphanumeric meaning of what you desire.

DON'T BOTHER READING THIS UNLESS YOU READ mrsminer BLOG ON workplace mathmatics FIRST.  IT WON'T MAKE ANY SENSE IF YOU DON'T!!! YOU CAN READ THE FOLLOWING AS MY REPLY ON HER BLOG OR RETURN HERE TO READ IT... ENJOY

This was a great post thank-you...

However being a math major, and not a member of the Jaded Corporate Whores of America I had to say it isn't so...

I applied standard deviation to your alphanumeric values.

You’ll be relieved that there is magic in numbers, sort of:

K-N-O-W-L-E-D-G-E = 60.0645 % std

Useless jeopardy knowledge gets you know where… don’t give up yet

11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5

A-S-S-K-I-S-S-I-N-G = 65.8027% std

Everybody loves a little ass to mouth… don’t they?
1+19+19+11+9+19+19+9+1+7

B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T = 79.2937% std

You can bullshit, we all do it… try to avoid having to lick it up. wtf bullshit better than knowledge (note to self)
2+21+12+12+19+8+9+20

H-A-R-D-W-O-R-K = 82.7647%
hard work and dedication, your getting somewhere, at least keeping your job, assuming you have the ass kissing and useless knowledge.

8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11

A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E = 91.924% std

Attitude puts you on top but not over the top, if you have a good attitude, your ass kissing is sincere, your bullshit is true, your hard work is recognized and your useless knowledge appreciated but your still not 100%+.
1+20+20+9+ 20+21+4+5

Well damn, 100% isn’t possible, how can we obtain 100% percent?

I’ll check myself with genius….

G-E-N-I-U-S = 86.2168% std

still below attitude, some of us can be asses, arrogant and never stop analyzing shit.

7+5+14+9+19

OK I’ll give up after this one….

23+9+26+1+18+4

std = sqrt((289+9+400+25+144+4) / 6)

W-I-Z-A-R-D = 120.0485%

Holly shit, your have to be a f’n wizard to make the percentages our retarded employers set !!!

It all comes down to the magic... where is that vodoo doll, I'll start using my ouija for work... I'm set

All numbers were actually calculated and not made up!!!

We are the words on a page come to life.

One primary means by which we express our belief is confession--verbally expressing what we believe. In fact, God requires us to take our stand in this world. Jesus says, "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38).

Confessing what we believe gives proof to our faith. Confession doesn't create faith; faith makes possible true confession. Confession is agreeing with God. It is living in the light by letting our life and our mouth demonstrate what we believe in our heart.

I believe that we confess what we believe more by our actions than our words. Our lives may be the only Bible that somone may read.

Have you ever seen someone do something so postively 'good' and moral that it made you want to rise up and raise your standard in your life?

Or do you run and hide, ashamed that you havent stepped up yet?

My friends, run no more.. rise up, shame is not to be lived in, move forward.. do or say one thing today to someone that you cross paths with that will encourage them.. motivate them!
