- I have now met 2 of my 8 students. Li and M. Guess I'll have to get used to the new abbreviations; I'm going to have another D, but I think I'll call him D(M) since his real name starts with an M but is being changed to D. And I'm going to have another A, but I won't call him that, since I've already had an A. That abbrev is already claimed in my heart. Either way, they were both really cute and sweet, and I know, honeymoon period, but if I can grab everyone before it gets bad, I have a shot at a good year. Not perfect, will always have some issues (they're in my class because they can't yet navigate a typical classroom), but a good, controlled-ish year.
- My room is starting to come together. The bookshelf has dried, and though yesterday's paint color was greyer than the day before's, it dried to be the same. WOO. Not the world's greatest paint job, but I'm satisfied. Setting up my rug area, realized I could have a second, now must go buy another rug. Sucks in that respect, but once I have it ... yay another rug! And another space kids can go to!
- I move into my apartment (technically) in less than one week.
- I loooove the custodial crew at my school. The female, Milly, isn't overly friendly (but she's also probably not loving the fact that she's doing so much work), and I haven't seen Mike in a few days, and Ed, the big guy on campus (he's clearly the boss) is mega-busy and only gets to deal with me when I want/need something/to have something taken away... so I guess really, I love Mark and Dylan. They're just fun and hilarious. I had a bit of a faux pas today when I thought Dylan was 17 years old and just helping out for the summer and he's not. He's actually 25 and working there full time (though going on vaca for a month first). So Oops, he's actually 7-8 years older than that. But it's also kinda good because ... he's very cute. Now I'm allowed to think that without having to get registered on some kind of Sex Offenders list :-P.
Anyway, I have lots of good news to tell you. YAY FOR BULLETS! :3
- Dad got a call back for applying for a job today, and they want to interview him. It's in a city twenty minutes away, but we need all the opportunities we can get.
- A forum I visit daily is looking for a new moderator, and I was talking to the admin, and she stated that I have a REALLY GREAT chance at getting the "job". She said she's going to announce it this week. I really hope I get it. Then I can finally have a place of authority. Hah. >:3 (Okay, so I'm kidding. She said I'd make a great mod.)
- Another lady from church offered to take me out for a drink! I think ML started a chain reaction or sumthin'... I was with her in the play, and we got to know each other really well. Her name is Lorie, and she's a ball of fun. She posted on my Facebook wall a day or two ago and said that she used to write when she was my age. She said she's going to call me sometime.
- My Juliet POV is going REALLY well... Matter o' fact, I might post a snippet for you guys to read later. I'm debating on that.
Anyway, that's all I wanted to share with you. Adios! ^^
So at about this time, Robin walks in with A. I guess I looked at his face, so she tells me that this weekend he was out of control, and that she had to grab him by the face to get him back to her. I was uncomfortable with the mark, so I told Claudia, who told me to go tell Jackie. I went to Jackie, who told me to bring A down. It took some time, but I got him down. We tried to get him to talk about it, but he wouldn’t. He said mom had hurt his feelings, but she didn’t hurt his body (though she’d admitted to me she had). Then he said something along the lines of, “if I tell mom will get in trouble and go to jail” so clearly, this has been told to him before.
D made threats at A who was annoying him, lost is safe body, and then lost it further by messing with furniture and then leaving the room. OY. Rest of morning wasn’t too incident-y; Z was allowed to go to art with Parker, and then we all went to the caf. We talked to Jackie because while C was in the room with a calm Z, he had thrown books at her and stomped on her foot quite a bit. She said that if he was calm now, we couldn’t send him home because then it sent a bad message. Dammit. Tomorrow, I guess. First thing he does as assault.
I had a meeting with Kate during Erin’s reading time, and then went to Erin’s meeting for a bit. Came back to SS which took some prompting but I got Z and then A to do it (E and D were in T.O. having already done it and doing read aloud). Recess Z and I were outside, and A had been picked up early. Science was…rough start. E had HAD it with Z, didn’t want to hear about Science since it was solid/liq/gas and he ‘knew that already’, and some other stuff. Then Z started being unsafe w/ pencil, so C and P got that away, but he kicked her, so we got him to the t.o. room and it again took a while for him to calm down. He’s escalating.
It really is so hard to get good help these days. I've heard so many people say that and yet it never really sank in. I advertised for bar staff on www.seek.com and got a dozen replies. I've met some of them and stored a few names for later.
I needed above all, a good crew-chief. Someone I could trust to close the bar for me when I can't be there. I asked my friends to think of people they might want to recommend. My mate Ryan gave me the name of a barmaid he'd employed whom he said might be really good. I interviewed her and set up a trial day. She turned up, did heaps of work and was enthusiastic and bright. She had the right personality and seemed to be very keen. I offered her the position of bar manager and made her an offer of $23 p/h.
It's been a week now and I haven't had a reply to any of my txts, calls or e-mails. It seems she just changed her mind and can't be bothered to let me know. What the hell is with that? She's 25 not 14.
I guess it's true what they say . . . about good help being hard to find.
