Happy St. Patricks Day!

valentinaxxx reminds us (yes, we needed a reminder, we're working today Smiley) that today's is St. Patricks Day and shares some facts about the holiday:

"How well do you know your Irish history?  Have you kissed any Irish today?  Anyone care for some green beer?  Today is St. Patrick's Day.  First begun to celebrate the saint's feast day, it turned into the modern celebration of all things Irish when Irish immigrants in 1737 held the first St. Pat's parade in Boston.  Ever since then it's been a tradition for more than just the Irish, it's a fun time to welcome Spring and to honor our country's Irish immigrants by wearing green!"

What's everyone doing for St. Patrick's Day?

March Holidays!
  • March 14th: Pi day.
  • March 15th: Ides of March
  • March 16th: Isabelle Huppert's birthday*
  • March 17th: St. Patrick's day

Four days of non-stop fun in row!!

*Isabelle Huppert's birthday is special because we have this agency we submit things to at work.  And if we don't know the date for a project, we have to make one up because they require a date.  The date I use is 3/16, Isabelle Huppert's birthday, so I'll know that the date was made up.

Take Care Chitownfreak25, Happy St. Paddy's Day! The Irish Love Poetry!

Howdy Howdy all! Now I know you were all looking for vacation entry 3 but that has been put on hold for a St. Patricks Day Salute. so without further ado.....HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY!  I will not be going out for a drink but will instead will tie one on at home with the roomies and the bestest bud the Cocoa Goddes. I hope you all are having a great day and please keep ChitownFreak25 in your thoughts and prayers.  I cant begin to know what she must have gone through but I do know that feeling alone is no small thing. Please reach out to someone, anyone if you feel like you are sinking. We are a bit of a family here on Mindsay and we should help one another when we can. How about some poetry...here goes....

This poem is by one of my absolute favorite writers, His post-modernist writings are so compelling that they speak to a whole other self. This poem was originally written in German and later translated.

Neither

to and fro in shadow from inner to outer shadow

from impenetrable self to impenetrable unself
by way of neither

as between two lit refuges whose doors once
neared gently close, once away turned from
gently part again

beckoned back and forth and turned away

heedless of the way, intent on the one gleam
or the other

unheard footfalls only sound

till at last halt for good, absent for good
from self and other

then no sound

then gently light unfading on that unheeded
neither

unspeakable home--Samuel Beckett

Goddess Bless

Theres only two kinds of people-those who are Irish and those who wish they were

Well, I woke up at 8:30 this morning to the lovely sounds of Irish music blaring from downstairs. When Sarah finally woke up we all got ready and headed off to the Green Derby. In the car Sarah asked who was coming, but I said it would be better off if she had asked who wasn't coming. A lot of people joined us, mostly realitives. We sure had our hands full with Christopher though!

Afterwards, Melissa took Christopher and Kaity home and the rest of us went off to Patrick's. It wasn't crowded at first, but as more time went by it got to be really crowded. I've only been in Patrick's a few times before, and never during the day time. Then all these Irish stepdancers came in. I really wish I could stepdance. Sadly, I have no coordination and no time. It sucks. We had a nice little corner all to ourselves so we could see really well at first, but then more and more people started to come in and watch the dancers. Soon we could hardly see anything! It was still cool tho. I'm kinda surprised Sarah wasn't forced to step dance, but I bet she's glad. ^_^

We met my mom at 3 and then we headed off to Horigan's. It was really crowded and noisy in there. Our waiter got kinda mad at us because we only ordered 1 burger, but we thought it was funny. There was a box of Irish stuff that we could take and we stole so much crap! Especially the flashy things. *_* They were so cool! (I still have my on ^^) There were these rolls of stickers that said things on them like "Kiss me, I like beer", "Will jig for beer" and "Your pint-size friend". We stole two of them! Lol! The Ladies from Hell were there, and some singer guy. I love Irish music. It's so catchy.

Her eyes, they shone like the diamonds

(1,2)

You'd think she was queen of the land

(And she was!)

And her hair hung over her shoulder

Tied up in a black velvet band

Or, my favorite and credo for life: "Moonshine"

I'm a rambler and a gambler and a long way from home

If you don't like me then leave me alone

I'll eat when I'm hungry and I'll drink when I'm dry

And if moonshine don't kill me, I'll live til I die

Anyways, we all played tricks on each other, like sticking a poster on one guy's back and holding a sign that said "I'm Available" above Sarah's head! One of my mom's friends took it for later. It was so much fun! Even if you couldn't move more than two feet, I loved it!

Then we went to the even more crowded and even noiser Heibernians. We all had dinner there but it got really crazy and I was getting tired, so now I'm home again listening to Irish music and writing about it all!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!

Happy St. Andrew's!
So it's St. Paddy's day today.  Everybody have a fun, and be safe out there.  I don't have an ounce of Irish in me, but quite a lot of Scottish (avoiding the obvious Scotch joke...), as if the tattoo wasn't a dead give away.  Anyhoo, I've always wanted to print up blue t-shirts and buttons to wear on St Patrick's that say "Kiss my arse, I'm Scottish" in white lettering.
