Spring @ MindSay
D’s first day back, not bad overall (until the end…will explain). My day started with A in a VERY singing mood. I was trying to write down the lyrics to the song he was singing,, but it was going too fast, so I quickly and craftily pulled out my camera and recorded video of it. IT IS SO FRIGGIN CUTE. He is such a monster sometimes; he’s a big boy, but he acts like a 4/5 year old, and he’s so innocent sometimes and UGH, I love him and his songs, even if they don’t ever make a ton of sense. And to their credit, E and D were tolerant of the first…3? They clapped when he was done, then when he asked ‘how many stars?’ they were like ‘a thousand!’ ‘a billion!’ ‘infinity!’ and it was really sweet. T
What else, what else? Today for writing group, we practiced and performed Jacob’s “The Battle for Cyzib” play. Adooooorable, even though he definitely could have added details/made it make more sense. He played the character ‘Hairman’, Tyler was ‘Director’ (whose only job was to say ‘I hope you enjoy this play’), and Seth took over as ‘Blob’. They were so cute, especially Seth who was actually acting. It left me with this really gooey, gushy feeling all over. And then continuing that high…AB GOT A PERFECT, 10/10 ON HIS ‘ON TASK’ task. 10 times the alarm went off, and all 10 times, he was undeniably doing what he was supposed to be doing. As I was leaving at 11:15, he was starting to fatigue and not do work, but that first hour and 15 minutes… <33.
At recess there was a snapping turtle laying eggs by the structure (seriously? WHERE DO I LIVE!??!), and then I had a really great session with ENC after lunch. Taught some Social Studies, and then I got to re-teach to A, who pulled it together and did really well with it. He asks some good questions; so does E.
My day ended with A having a great Art period. We took the library/1st grade hallway instead of the usual 3rd/4th, and he wondered if one was longer/shorter. We started Art with Polly, and then after a bit of his apple snack, we went out in the hall and we timed our walk to see which path is better. We were little Scientists, and it was SO COOL. Even something so simple as “I think this hallway is longer and will take more time to get there” led to an informal lesson and talk about hypotheses. Awesome.
This afternoon, after I finished reading E and D’s nonsensical story, I decided it was time to empty the extra fishtank I had brought in on Thursday. With a week and a half left of school (What? Insanity.), I think they’ll survive in the slightly-murky water. So I pick up the heavy tank, and get it to the sink to empty. This is the moment my body decided to have a Whack Attack and sneeze. Water EVERYWHERE. Only me. Terrible, but also hilarious. I was just starting to clean up when Larry (vice principal) walks in. He tells me that D had just had a minor fit in the front of the school/lobby. Threw his bookbag, yelling a bit…yipe. I had no idea he was even still IN school; E and he had been dismissed before A and I got to the bus, so I had assumed he’d gone out the side door like he was supposed to and was already home. Not the case. Not as bad as it could have been, and apparently when Larry put a hand on his shoulder to calm down he did and left, but… WHY COULDN’T YOU JUST KEEP THE GOOD DAY COMPLETLEY, KID? WHY!?!
*title of entry = what A said after one of his songs and before he started another. The kid is a HAM. <3
Yesterday we rode 38 miles to Big Sugar State park and it was simply breath taking! The road parallels Sugar creek on one side and the other is forest and bluffs. The honey suckle and wild roses were in full bloom and smelled divine!
Today we're riding 47 miles and tomorrow 50 so if your wondering if I died...nope...I'm really living and enjoying the hell out of it!
I may not post much but I am reading your blogs first thing in the morning and casting my votes. I'm trying not to think about politics or religion (though it's hard living in the bible belt in a 'red state") for a few days.
I'm sure something will piss me off soon and I'll tell you all about it! Until then....be well!
In short: It's fantastic. Wednesday I met with an orthodontist and aside from being strikingly gorgeous she does an entire treatment plan with molds of my teeth at no fee. so in two weeks I go back to have molds made and then two weeks later we go over the option for my lower teeth which have always been too crowded as I have such a small jaw.... and then we can proceed with finally getting them the way they should be. It's never to late to get that bite right. chomp.
I got a prototype of a chemo cap made for a neighbors mom who has cancer and after I finished about half a dozen of the caps for her I can shift to wool dying mode and start building up my body of work for the Fall show.I am quite excited and validated and thrilled to think I will be meeting other women artists in the area. I bought soe wonderful amber and amethyst beads for new work and some simple box frames. IKEA is the best deal in town. but it's a 15 mile drive or more and I tend to live within a 5 mile sphere of portland
Tonight we see Third Rail. one of my favorite theatre companies--- the awesomely brave actor TimTrue is part of the company and he blows me away every time I see him act. and then tomorrow maybe i can finally get rid of these blonde roots that reveal the truth about my red hair. . sunday I start the volunteer shift.... tours on sunday, greeter on monday and then OMSI on Tuesday. It's working very nicely as I get to leave OMSI before rush hour hits the bridges that let one side of portland connect to the other.
For sneezing, itchy, dry nose, constant running, and all those other fun symptoms these next couple of items have honestly been my panacea.
Ayr Brand Nasal Gel: This saline nasal gel is quite honestly the most amazing thing ever for nasal allergies. It's perfect for dry, scratchy irritation, that constant need to rub your nose, and helps soothe that tingly sensation. Just place a little dab around the nostrils, and then carefully put some up your nose. A little goes a long way! You don't have to plug your nose with this stuff to make it work. It has aloe that will immediately remove itch feelings, plus the saline solution keeps it moist. This also helps to prevent pollen from entering all the way up the nose to the olfactory foramen. (fancy term for where the pollen drives you crazy.)
SinuCleanse Squeeze: Sometimes all you really need is to clean out your Nasal Sinuses to remove any built up pollen and air particles. This simple nasal wash kit will remove built up mucous, pollen, misc particles that get stuck in the mucous membranes. It uses warm water, Sodium Bicarbonate and Sodium Chloride (saline solution) to naturally wash out the nasal sinuses. If you click the link it will describe how to use it properly. It's very easy to do, and after the first try I immediately felt better. I highly recommend this one. It's pretty much what you would get done at an ENT's office, but much cheaper.
Now let's say you can't be bothered to have water rushing up your nose and out the other end. Well here is a great all natural tea that will help stimulate your mucuous sinuses to loosen up and help flush out your allergens. Not to mention this tastes GREAT!
Nasal Cleanse Tea:
1/2" slice of fresh ginger
3-4 clove pieces
small cinnamon stick (broken into two)
5-6 cardamom pods
*you will also need your own Tea Bags or a Tea Ball
You will need to dice the ginger into nice size bits. The cinnamon sticks will also need to be shortened to fit inside the tea bag or tea ball. I would not recommend using ground cinnamon, because it will be too overpowering. The cardamom pods can be crushed open, but keep the seeds in the pod.
Once you have everything in the tea bag or tea ball, time to boil some water. Make sure the water boils for just a second, then remove from the heat. Pour hot water over tea bag or tea ball and allow to seep for 5-10 minutes. You should be able to smell the tea (it will smell amazing). Then you may add some sugar or sweetener, but not too much. Sip Slowly and allow the tea to warm up your throat. This will help stimulate your nasal passages and you should notice your nose starting to drain. If you notice your nose is really starting to run, this would be a great time to try the SinuCleanse Squeeze! Or you can just blow your nose.
As you sift through the past years collection of valuable and useless items you've stored in closets and attics , it's time to think about all the junk you have stored in the "attic called your brain".
Everyday we store tons of information and experiences into or brains. Some of it quite priceless , some of it useless garbage.
Take some serious time to meditate on all you have taken in the last year and begin to make your "piles".
One pile for all the wonderful things you wish to keep such as good ideas, useful information, helpful thoughts, kind, loving, productive imaginings.
Make another pile of things you wish to pass on to others such as kind words, constructive criticisms, helpful ideas.
And a pile of things to get rid of..to throw away...to burn and forget..like hurtful words, bad or angry thoughts, prejudices etc.....
Dust off everything you want to keep and organize it. Make room for new thoughts and ideas and take out your "trash".
You'll be surprised how good a "clean, organized mind can make you feel!
