Snow Storm @ MindSay
I woke up, got showered and dressed, and was getting ready to go to school when my mom calls. Michael (the superintendent) called the store to say that 'due to the unknown severity of the storm (there are 2 inches of snow on the ground), school is cancelled today. All students who have already been picked up were being put back on the buses'. WTF, man? I am sooooooooooooooo sick of this weather!
Today was supposed to be my first at my new job/schedule, maybe that 's why this is so annoying. Because I wanted to see what it's like running all over the building working with all these other kids/group of kids. Right now, I should be with AB, helping him organize his life, but... I'm home. Grumble.
HOWEVER:
Since I am not at work today, here are some things I do get to do:
-- laundry (one load down, one to go!)
-- Work on E's IEP which is frustrating, but necessary
-- PANCAKES WITH SHELLEY. I'm so excited for noon!
I almost think my title is an understatement! We have had snow storm after snow storm this past week and I honestly do not remember ever seeing this much snow in the city in my life time! We have over a foot of snow in our yard right now and according to weather.com there is another smaller storm coming late tomorrow evening. I know a lot of people are thinking so what is the big deal? Well we live in Seattle, right smack dab in the middle of the city and us city folk are ill equipped to deal with all of this white stuff.
On a happier note, Jack loves this weather! Even though we have been house bound for the most part he is really enjoying all of this snow and you should see the delight in his face each time it snows again. His response after the first snow began to melt was "Momma and Daddy I am mad at winter! Winter is rude!" Well needless to say he doesn't think winter is rude anymore. We have been playing in the snow every day, sometimes twice a day. Matt is on vacation from work right now (Thank Goodness!) and we are all enjoying this time spent as a family. Matt, Jack and I went sledding the night before last and kind of got caught in the storm. The snow was lightly falling when we left and got heavier and heavier as we decided to come home. Never in my life have I had that feeling of trudging through the snow and feeling like everything was getting further and further away. Needless to say we have gone through lots of hot chocolate and hot cider.
I am so thankful that I had the foresight to finish my Christmas shopping early this year. I wasn't so on top of it with my Christmas cards but still managed to get the important ones out the door as well as the packages that needed to be shipped to the post office before the storm. We are planning on having a quiet Christmas dinner at our house with my parents and perhaps a friend or two but I am fearful that none of them will make it down here. The main roads are looking pretty clear but the side streets are still a mess, our bus service is only running at about 50 percent and from what I hear they are loosing about one bus a night because the vehicles just aren't made for this kind of weather. I do have a back up plan. If we get snowed in for Christmas I plan to make a simple dinner and enjoy Christmas with Matt and Jack and plan on having another celebration with my folks when weather permits. In the mean time we will just trudge along and enjoy the snow while it lasts. That has been quite the conversation between Matt, Jack and I...Jack just doesn't understand that this snow is a rarity and not the norm. I think if we don't get any snow next year he is going to be very disappointed. Matt and I have been marveling about the lack of children out playing in the snow. I remember when we were kids even if we only had an inch or even less everyone would bundle up and go outside to play. I guess it really is the video game generation. The parks and roads have been fairly empty. The only other reason I could come up with is that people are just unprepared for the weather and perhaps with the economy being what it is people just can't afford to go out and buy snow boots, hats, gloves, etc. for kids to wear in the snow. One thing is for certain we couldn't keep Jack inside if we wanted to. He is having the time of his life and you know when it gets right down to it Matt and I are having the times of our lives too! I am so glad winter isn't being rude anymore:)
So.. here in Spokane we're working on a couple feet of snow, EASILY, and where's Al Gore??? That dirty phony is hiding in his house in the south where global warming is really taking an effect......... Oh no.. since there's a big storm, that means that global warming is making the climate snow more!! Global warming is causing more snow! Oh No!!! Its colder because its warmer! Where are you Al?? People are stuck in their homes, come melt the snow with the hot air you blow around! AAH! Its freakin cold too. But whatever.
Global warming? HOAX. Don't big Al tell you its happening when there are about as many scientists saying its not our fault as are saying it is. I hope CNN tells you all that snow is caused by global warming. So I can laugh.

And so it was during the dawning of a new year that I have taken time out of my busy schedule to pen this great work of historical significance that I will share with all the known world and some parts that are unknown. And upon the day that I have chosen to write all things of importance, I find myself in the midst of a snowfall from which I neither have the time or monetary resources to escape, so I shall just sit...
And I shall here sit and write this little note that may one day be read by another. I shall sit here and watch the snows pile up outside this window. I shall sit and enjoy the fact that I have allowed myself the opportunity to sit, to write, and to watch the snows as they gently cascade before my eyes whilst I sit indoors and keep myself warm. And this will be the plan for today's activities for this is the path that I have chosen and the path that I shall remain upon until I find it necessary to change paths...
And I shall watch as the snow rains down from Heaven, and I shall marvel at each and every flake that I see before me. I shall gaze upon them with awe as the slowly cover the world that is beyond the window, each flake - a new creation for which there will never be another quite like it. And we the people of this rock are created as differently as the snowflakes for even if we cloned ourselves we would still find that there are differences that make us unique as we fall gently to the ground from which we came and will one day return...
And I sit and watch on this glorious day that I have granted myself and I shall do so until I reach the point that I decide to do something else with my time, and that time has come for it would seem that through the snow a delivery has been made to my abode and it's the nerd goodies I have been waiting for - the man has sent me my fix and I shall have to end this time-out that I have called and I shall have to install the megadose of RAM into my ÜberPuter and see what joys the brain transfusion will do as I ramp up from half a gig to two and a half gigs of pure power to the brain functions of the multiprocessor beast...
And so it is and so it shall be...
