The past few days have been great. Wednesday afternoon, my sister arrived, and we had our usual great time together. Thursday, we did some sightseeing. I took her to the Jelly Belly factory; she enjoyed that. Friday we just hung out around here. I took her to the office and introduced her to most of the folks I work with. We went to see The Simpsons Movie. Her idea. It was okay. I like The Simpsons, but had no pressing desire to see the movie. Saturday, rather than put her on an airplane at the buttcrack of dawn, I drove her down to Orange County. We were able to spend several more hours together (on her birthday, no less).
I was hoping she'd be done with her work last night in time to go see
Shannon Curtis in concert in Costa Mesa, but she wasn't. So I went alone. Shannon was surprised to see me, of course. It was nice to see her and to hang out with her boyfriend, Jaime, for a time.
This morning, I said goodbye to sis and drove back up to Sacramento. It's always a bummer saying goodbye to her. Wish we didn't live on opposite sides of the country.
On the drive down, along I-5 in California's "lovely" Central Valley, we passed by lots of vineyards. Some of them have strips of some reflective material (I'm guessing mylar) hanging throughout, for the purpose of scaring away birds. As we came upon the first such vineyard, my sister pointed at the flashing glints.
"They must make sparkling wine from those."
.....
And people wonder why I have such a weird sense of humor.
