A Modern Scarlett Letter
Leroy Schad, 72, from central Kansas, received a punishment for the public – rather than quietly be convicted of a sex offense against a minor, the judge overseeing the case ordered Schad “…to five years of probation and house arrest…” in addition to “…posted signs around his house and a decal on his car proclaiming that he is a sex offender”.

Schad, unhappy with the enforced posting rule stated, “"I know that I deserve something for that, but I don't think I deserve what I got”.

Perhaps if more criminals were forced to wear a symbol of their sin public shame itself could be a deterrent to committing future crimes.

Do you think that the Judge’s ruling is unfair or that a badge of shame should be applied to other type of criminals publicly announcing their crime?

An Eye-Opener

There are some things where you're better off not knowing.

This isn't one of them.

I decided to see how many registered sex offenders are in my town.

Here are the statistics:

There are close to 200 sex offenders in my small town, 124 are within a 6 mile radius of my address.

There are 4 closer than 1 mile to me.

The closest is 0.15 miles. (!!!)

The second is 0.17 miles.

The third is 0.23 miles.

The fourth is 0.55 miles.

Now here's the deal U.S. wide:

California (where I reside) has the highest registered offender count, coming in at 61,372 people.

Minnesota has the lowest count, with only 141 people.

If this isn't enough to make you see things in a different perspective, then I don't know what will.

Sex-Offender Bill Passed By House

The House passed and sent to President Bush legislation establishing a national Internet database designed to tell law enforcement and community officials where convicted sex offenders live and work.

The most serious offenders would be registered in the database for life. All sex offenders could face a felony charge punishable by 10 years in prison for failing to update their database information.

Offenders would be required to register in person.

The House passed the bill by voice vote, as did the Senate last week.

The legislation also sets mandatory minimum sentences of 25 years for kidnapping or maiming a child, and 30 years for sex with a child under 12 or for sexually assaulting a child 13 to 17.

All that Drama, who are you trying to impress?

Ok I feel inspired to write.

I came across a few concerns that I had tonight and I need to write about them, hopefully it will be something some of you will think about.  These are just my thoughts except for the stories I heard.  If you don't agree that's ok, thanks for reading, because that just makes you open-minded.  You know all the stories on tv about catching sex offenders online, I am all for that, but what I am about to write about some people may take the wrong way, again these are just my thoughts, so thanks for reading.

I knew a guy who was 19 and slept with an 18 year old woman.  She claimed before this that she had 3 miscarriages which turned out to be false and that she was being beaten by her mother and was pushed down the stairs by her which caused one of the miscarriages.  That also turned out to be false, how do I know, it came from the woman's mouth herself, no rumors, no gossip, just her mouth.  She and this guy had sex, and about a week later she claimed he raped her.  Now, I know the guy, and I didn't think he was ever capable of such a thing.  At this time I knew that the girl was diagnosed as being a compulsive liar and so I didn't believe the story.  But she told one person who told another and so on, and before you knew it, his name and his personal life was destroyed by rumors.  It turned out she was lying the whole time, but when she admitted to this, it was too late, he was a registered sex offender, rapist, and any other nasty name you can think of.  She had ruined his life with in minutes of telling a lie to an officer.  He couldn't get work anywhere because he had to put down on every application that he was a registered sex offender.  He was supposed to be going to college and couldn't because he was too embarassed to enroll being as he had the reputation of being a sex offender, he had to wait till that was expunged.  The girl never got anything for what she did.  I haven't heard from him since and have no idea if he is alright, if his life is back on track some what.

Don't take me wrong, I am all for someone who was raped to come forth, and the person who raped them should be thrown in jail, as I am a victim of rape myself, but rumors, lies, and gossip only create more problems and can destroy someone's reputation and dreams.  It can cause a person to not be able to get into schools, jobs, relationships, etc.  When this happens to people they shut themselves off from the world, and can't trust anyone, they feel they are being judged for every move they make.  Sometimes there is more behind the story than we are aware of, so before jumping to conclusions make sure you have the facts, not the gossip, and if you don't then stopping the chain of gossip with you is the best thing you can do.

What about the women or men who really are raped?  This just makes it harder for them to come forth.  You don't want to be known as someone who just wants attention, or you don't want rumors or gossip to start about you as well. I have found that this happens more in smaller towns where everyone knows everyones buisness.  When you go to school with only 1000 students or less it's very easy to know peoples buisness and to relay the rumor you heard, because there is "nothing better to do,"  that is a piss poor excuse if you ask me, destroying someone's reputation is not my idea of a good time.  Grab a book and read, educate your mind and become smarter than that.

For people who love to make a mountain out of a mole hill, get a hobby.  Anxiety is your best friend.  If you love to make problems and cause harm to someone, it shows how much you really are insecure with yourself and how uneducated you really are.  GROW UP!

Then there are people who feel that they should get involved and make it their buisness.  Even if the people really involved in the situation have it under control and have come to an understanding, there are still those people who feel they need to get involved and make matters worse.  To me, you are the worst kind, not only do have no a life of your own, but you feel you need to live someone elses and if something bad happens which 9 times out of 10 you were to blame, then you feel that it's your duty to see that justice is done.  You are doing nothing but hurting people and making yourself look stupid.  Let the people who are involved take care of their own issues.  They don't need you to be another issue in their lifes.  This is intended to be about people who love gossip, destroying people's lifes, and creating more drama.  To all of you who are drama queens and kings, one little word for you KARMA!  May it be a bitch to you, and may it hit you so hard, so long, and so badly.  Hopefully then you will see that you don't like what's happening to you, but yet you have done it to others. All I can say is may God have mercy on your soul.
