Serial Killer @ MindSay
“Could a national gang of killers that leaves smiley-face calling cards be getting away with
murdering dozens of male college students by making all the deaths look like accidents?” (MSNBC

About the Guests
Kristi Piehl broke the Smiley Face Killer story the same week Josh Szostak was buried. Bill Szostak heard Kristi on Good Morning America and contacted her. The two worked independently over the summer. Bill focused on Josh’s case and Kristi followed up on tips and pursued leads on victims and suspects.
Bill and Kristi realized in August that they each held key pieces of a bigger puzzle and began talking everyday and sharing evidence. Several weeks before Christmas 2008, a round of newsroom layoffs ended Kristi’s 12 year career in television news. It gave her an opportunity to work full-time on these drowning cases. Her goal is to expose the evidence and keep the victim’s stories alive.
Bill is a retired firefighter and licensed fire investigator. His motivation is to give Josh justice and to ensure no other parent will have to watch their son’s body recovered from a river.
About the Watering Hole
The Watering Hole is police slang for a location cops go off-duty to blow off steam and talk about work and life. Sometimes funny; sometimes serious; but, always interesting.

The Grim Sleeper
The first murder was committed in 1985 and the last one was committed in 2007. The Los Angeles Police believe one person is responsible for the deaths of 11 people. The murderer was dubbed the Grim Sleeper because of the long span of time between each murder.
Why hasn't the public been informed about this? Well, let's just say the media doesn't find the Grim Sleeper's victims sympathetic or sensational enough.

Dexter has so many facets to his character. The producers of this great show spend alot of time developing how we as the audience see Dexter. How many actual serial killers do you hope will get away with their crimes? Every sunday night for near three years now I find myself feeling a confusing sense of guilt for sincerely wishing Dexter keeps murdering and not getting caught. Does this make me a horribly nasty evil person? I don’t know, but I do know this is good evidence the writers and producers of Dexter are doing their job and they’re doing their job well.
This weeks episode is titled “Finding Freebo” because last week Dexter went to kill Freebo and wound up killing the brother of a district deputy attorney, letting Freebo slip right through his fingers. Oops! Dexter’s always making some kind of error in judgment. This is his second obvious error this season. His first was getting his girlfriend Rita pregnant. Actually Dexter’s third possibly detrimental foul up occurred last night. Immediately upon completing his mission of killing Freebo the deputy district attorney showed up, catching Dexter with fresh blood on his hands. Dexter quickly blankets the district deputy attorney with a covering of lies. These lies mean nothing to the district attorney, who is over-joyed Dexter has just rid the earth of Freebo. He then offers to help Dexter clean up the mess and get rid of all the evidence. Dexter says “I’ll take care of it, you should go, plausible deniability”. All in all it was a fine intimate moment shared between Dexter, the D.A., and the audience.
Freebo’s now dead and it looks like Dexter will be paling around with the D.A. for awhile, who appears to be enamored with Dexter for his kind act of revenge. I love how Dexter gets giddy just before, during, and after a kill. Everything associated with killing truly is a fix for him. I really miss his narcotics anonymous sponsor Lila. She was slightly more nuts than Dexter however they still could have found room to bring her along with the rest of the cast into this season.
There’s one other killer on tv who I’m beginning to fall in love with. The irresistibly sexy Summer Glau. She plays John Connor’s terminatrix protector or protectress on “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. She sometimes exhibits strange flaws in her thinking and behavior. For instance last week she kept looking up a chimney listening to birds chirp. She then tried unsuccessfully a few times to get permission from Sarah Connor to kill the birds. She couldn’t rid her mind of killing these birds. She’s going through some kind of identity crisis right now. She’s actually learning who she is just like any other sentient being. Her psyche is different from yet right on par with Dexters.
I know I got a little off topic but I hope this will tide you over until next weeks episode and my review of it. FanPop.com is a good place to find just about anything from articles to news to videos on Dexter or Michael C. Hall. I hope everyone has a great week. See you all back here next week.
It's long, there's a point. Read it or don't.
For Christmas, I recieved the book "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson from Lindsay's aunt Donna, who knew it was a book that I would love. It is a true story about Chicago around the turn of the 20th century, revolving around the construction of a world fair, coinciding with a serial killer on the loose in the city at the same time. I do in fact love what I have read so far, so Donna was spot on with the gift. I was discussing the book, or more importantly the subject matter with my boy Hoz the other day. Yes the same Hoz who blogs on mindsay and looks like either a porn star, librarian, homeless person or pedophile depending on which shoelaces he straps on in the morning, That is, however, neither here nor there. We got to talking about serial killers, and I followed up this conversation by doing more research on wikipedia.
I read about Holmes, the killer in the book. I checked out the Bloody Benders, which Hoz told me about. I also checked out the BTK killer, Dennis Rader. I searched for BTK, as I had forgotten his name. You get hits of the murderer, as well as a couple hits based on Death Metal bands using references to serial killers in their songs and cd titles and even band names. Appalled really is not the word, more like enraged and disappointed in the abilities of humans.
Families suffered in immense ways at the hands of a serial killer. I firmly believe that if any person takes the life of another, they do not deserve their own life, period. They thought themselves to have the right to end another person's life, and I do no excuse that in any way. In correlation to that, anyone who would like to glorify those types of actions, should not be allowed to even speak, print, sing (if you could call death metal that) or in any other way broadcast those types of ideas. PERIOD. There is no justification for it at all, and if their minds see some way of justifying such a thing, they should not be allowed an avenue to spew that filth.
I listen to many genres of music, including heavy metal. I have been to many metal concerts over the years. The people that go to these concerts LIVE through the music. Think I'm wrong? Drive by a venue where a concert is about to be held by one of those death metal groups. Look at the people. If they can't help themselves not to live vicariously through the music. Glorification of this kind of thing is deplorable. I don't propose a solution, because I'm not sure one exists. It becomes a slippery slope to try and attempt any resolution from trying to stop people who do terrible things with their freedoms. I don't lnow what the solution is, but my faith in people continues to be assaulted everyday, more and more.
