Un-Cuil
So a few disgruntled ex-Google employees put their eggheads together and came up with Cuil, the search engine that they are hoping will topple the Google Goliath. And the Cuil developers are truly smelling themselves as evidenced by their own description of the search engine:

"The Internet has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years but search engines have not kept up—until now. Cuil searches more pages on the Web than anyone else—three times as many as Google and ten times as many as Microsoft.

Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.

Then we offer you helpful choices and suggestions until you find the page you want and that you know is out there. We believe that analyzing the Web rather than our users is a more useful approach, so we don’t collect data about you and your habits, lest we are tempted to peek. With Cuil, your search history is always private.

Cuil is an old Irish word for knowledge. For knowledge, ask Cuil."

Yep, according to these guys Cuil is the world's largest and bestest search engine but just how well does it work and how likely is it to catch on with the surfing public?
Sadly, I would have to say not well and not bloody likely and the main reason is summed up perfectly in this YouTube video:

Free porn is the axis upon which the internet world spins and if you can't produce results when some pervy guy is ready to see a Brazilian lesbian farting video (I'd be very careful about clicking that link, boys and girls!) then you are not going to last very long.

My First Ever!

Wow! This is my very very very first blog ever! I'm so proud of myself... and they said it couldn't be done.

Believe me, I'm the last person in the world (and I say this with a completely straight face) to believe I'd start something like this. The hardest thing to believe is how it happened; I was looking up the price of - of all things - airplane tickets because I'm going to Nagasaki to visit my sister tomorrow. I haven't used the internet in ages and out of lack of practice, or something or another, I suddenly typed my name into the search engine. I did it ages ago when I was 12 with dismal results (meaning none). I wanted to see what it would turn up this time.

What the search engine turned up was; my name, (obviously,) but with Mindsay tagged onto the end of it. (It also turned up a picture of some sort of insect that has my name, but that's beside the point.) Anyway, I clicked the link and it led me to the story of some girl's love life (which somehow manages to be worse than mine, despite the fact that mine is nonexistent). Although I have absolutely no interest in a stranger's love life, I was kinda intrigued the the concept of Mindsay. So, after I checked the prices and time tables, I came straight back here.

At first I thought it'd be interesting to read through other peoples' stories and find out what they had to say, and it was... for the first entry. The next entry I read was by someone I related to all too well. So much so that, bursting with emotion and excitment, I became a member just so I could be able to make a reply.

And now that I'm a member, and having run out of things to say on the subject, I'm going in search of other people to relate to... I never thought it could be so fun!!
