Scottish Country Dance Video--Monymusk (Strathspey)
The Baton Rouge Scottish Country Dancers (BRSCD) dances Monymusk, a Strathspey.  (A Strathspey is a slower more deliberate type of dance than the "reel" that I previously posted.)  This was done tonight (Monday) at our dance class in BR.

Scottish Country Dance: Mairie's Wedding

This is the Baton Rouge Scottish Country Dance Group dancing the classic "Mairie's Wedding."  culdeedeacon is the big guy who starts first.  I'm in the purple LSU shirt at the end.  It's very fun dancing, you probably live somewhere where there is a group you could visit... it's international!

Still here

Well, I really haven’t dropped off the face of the earth! I just haven’t had anything interesting to say. Maybe that really isn’t totally true. Let’s see, my eldest son, Jamie has become engaged to Emily. We all went to Burns Night celebrations both in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Jamie devised a really terrific Scottish Country dance which is entitled "Jamie’s Nightmare". Trust me, it is NOT a beginner’s dance! Anyway, this was premiered at the Baton Rouge Burns Supper and was well received.

I will soon get back to revising my articles on Scottish Highland attire and posting them here.

My Weekend!!
My son Jamie (Semiomniscient) has placed some photos of our Scottish and Vintage dance groups
from this past weekend on his blog. He also has is a short video (page down) of my family doing Scottish Country Dancing this past weekend with a mixed demo team from Baton Rouge and New Orleans. This is on my son's web blog

The dancing took place at the Celtic Nations Heritage Festival in Lake Charles, Louisiana this past Saturday. In the video, I was dancing in street shoes, as I had to participate in the opening ceremonies. Actually, the video is from dancing that was part of the opening ceremonies. They also had Scottish Highland and Irish step dancing as a part of the opening. The music was live and the band was not playing the usual music that is so often associated with the Balgeddie Reel, (they used Mairi's Wedding as one of the tunes!).
Some of our dancers have only been dancing for about six months. In fact, one of my partners on the Ninesome Reel (The Bumpkin) has only been dancing since March, she is twelve years old and didn't miss a step.

I think I danced about 5 hours total on Saturday, which included demos both in Scottish and vintage as well as workshops. The Irish Set dancing workshop literally kicked my booty! The last "house around" had my legs ready to collapse! And that was with a Scottish Country demo to follow! We actually had a couple who danced all that and had an Irish Ceili and set dance demo right after the Scottish! Yikes!
