Salt Lake City @ MindSay

Beware Tumbleweeds

We recently drove to Salt Lake City. On the drive out, I commented to Tracy that I would like to get a big tumbleweed to put in front of our barn which is painted like this.

That's my oldest sister in front of our barn, sitting on my brother's buggy and mule.

Be careful what you ask for, because I got what I asked for......Sort of.

On the way back I was driving in the middle of the night when my headlights lit up a huge tumbleweed right in the middle of my lane. I won't tell how big it was because most people probably wouldn't believe me. I didn't realise tumbleweeds got that big til I saw it in my lane. I glanced in my left mirror and saw a car in the left lane so I couldn't swerve. My only choices were to hit the brakes and slide to a stop on the interstate or run over the tumbleweed. So I ran over it.

My next thought was that some of it probably got stuck in my undercarriage. I stopped at the next truck stop and sure enough there was a big branch of it stuck between the axles.

Here is the pile I had when I got it all dug out. Remember, this is just one of the branches that got stuck.

The rest of it was scattered on the interstate. Be careful when you're driving out West. Trust me. These things get huge.

Salt Lake City, Utah Mass Mall Shooting

Trolley Square is a mall in Salt Lake City, Utah that occupies a building that was originally used to house trolley cars.

Last night at about 6:45 PM a shooter went it and started randomly shooting people. So far at least six people are dead and at least four are critically injured, and they haven't released the victims names yet, so I don't know if it's anyone I know.

But it's still extremely distressing to me in the way that I live only about two blocks from Trolley Square. It is a place that my family has gone to several times, and I have gone there with friends and dates many times. It just seems unreal to have something like this occur in Utah so close to where I live. I wonder if I'll ever be able to go there again and go to certain stores without thinking about it.

It really hits me that things like this can happen anywhere or anytime.

Trip Out West

We left home last Tuesday and took a load from Knoxville to Virginia and back. Then we went from Knoxville to West Virginia and back again. The leaves were very colorful as we drove through the Appalachians. Then we went to Nashville and picked up a load of detergent and brought it all the way out to Salt Lake City, Utah. We hit a pretty bad blizzard last night so we stopped for the night near Cheyenne, Wyoming. We have to wait until tomorrow to get our return load going back to Dyersburg, TN. Here is a slide show of some pictures we have taken since we left home this time.
