Stood on the edge

It's been a while since I last posted, and put any videos up on Youtube. It's been a very busy month, and very little of that has been music related. I went to the wedding of a very good friend, and it was one of the best weddings I've ever attended. We were very well looked after. Ferried around everywhere, so that we didn't have to worry about our alcohol levels :)

It took place on the Isle of Man. A highlight of the day was a tram that was hired out exclusively to transport us all to the peak of snaefell mountain. A bagpiper joined us. Together with plenty to eat and a sufficient supply of champagne.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was glad for the both of them that the event went so well.

I finally got back to doing a couple of cover songs. This one is another Coldplay tune called "Amsterdam". It featured on the album "A rush of blood to the head". This is one of my all time favourites of Coldplay. The vid just shows a collection of pictures. I admit I didn't spend much time on the vid, but the song was far more important to me :)

Check it out :)

There are a number other things I've been getting up to in the past month, though I'm not going to bother writing about it. It would fill several pages. I'm just going to crack on with the Youtube statistics.

I may have been neglecting my Youtube channel, but the numbers have still been increasing very well on their own.

I now have 806 subs. I was hoping to get to the 1,000 by the end of the year, but at this rate, it looks like it's going to pass that sooner.

Channel viewings are now up to 18,423. They are rolling along well.

Last, but by no means least. The total video views have inreased to 291,498. The 300k landmark is less than 2 weeks away now.

I've pre-recorded another song, and I'm hoping to make the video quite amusing. It is another song from the "Crash test dummies". I'm hoping I can put that up quite soon. Rather than wait another month :)

Morning RUSH
Something quick to say this morning: I'm listening to RUSH on the Saturday Morning Freakshow radio program on UWSP college radio 90FM and it has me daydreaming...

The music takes me back to junior high school.  Back when I lived in Springfield, Missouri just across from the Missouri State Fairgrounds.  One summer RUSH headlined the fair.  It was something magical to hear Getty Lee in the humid air.  We didn't have to go to the concert, we just played in the backyard to RUSH.  It was a big deal to me because I wasn't allowed to listen to secular music.  In fact anything that wasn't Christian or church related was forbidden in our house.  So I guess if it wasn't for that magical summer night listening to RUSH, maybe I wouldn't be such a classic rock fan like I am today.

Incidentally, RUSH also reminds me of Dungeons and Dragons, swords and sorcery, chicks in chain mail, garden gnomes, and Lord of the Rings.  Theirs is the soundtrack of imagination and escape from the ordinary world. And there was something about that album cover for 2112 -- the pentagram.  It was the first time I ever saw one.

Anyone else have fond memories of RUSH and other classic rock bands?

Universe Journal - Day Two (Creative Direction)

Are you searching for something exciting and new?
Do you firmly believe it's there waiting for you?
When you sit and you ponder the "how" of it all,
Does it sometimes appear you're to answer a call?

>>A call?  Like a phone?  Are you nuts?  That's bizarre!
>>Yet it feels very much like it's not very far...
>>...like perhaps I'm just missing that one little piece,
>>That elusive detail, almost mocking, a tease.

You're creative; You know it.  Your life so attests.
But you cannot quite grasp that ultimate quest.
It's direction you seek, something firm, something true.
How will you know when you've clutched the right cue?

>>How will I know?  By the way that it feels.
>>When no longer is there a nag at my heels.
>>A calmness will come, bringing with it a rush,
>>A settling excitement, like a hug, then a push.

You know how to detect it.  You'll welcome the truth.
And you've known where to find it, e'er since your youth.
We're each one a creator, born with that gift.
The direction for none of us wanders adrift.

>>When I search from the inside, in quiet repose,
>>I learn secrets it seems that nobody else knows.
>>Why is it so easy to fall out of touch
>>With that innermost guidance that gives me so much?

And so you've recalled from whence it all comes --

Creative direction in all of its sums.

Nurture it, grow from it, bring from within

The wonderful wisdom...let vision begin!

Time, Time...Who's Got The Time???
xmas-calendar.jpg hosted for free by ImageShack

Hey, ya'll!  Is everone as rushed as me these days?  I feel like the mad hatter in Alice In Wonderland...running around yelling, "Time?  Time?  Who's got the time?"  With the Holidays fast approaching, I have come to some very important conclusions.

1.  I am a procrastinator extraordinare!!  Being a nurse by profession, I spend eight hours every day, with the exception of the weekends, running like mad.  I think when I get home, the only thing I want to do is "veg," as my oldest DD calls it.  This is not conducisive to a smooth Christmas shopping season.  The truth is, I would much rather stay home,  watching an old Christmas classic on TV, that go shopping.  Gasp!  A woman who doesn't like to shop...well, I decare!

2.  The hurriered I go, the behinder, I get!  Not proper English, or syntax, but I bet you got the meaning.  For years now, my kiddos have each had their own small tree in each of their rooms, and the house was decorated no later than December first.  Not this year, Bub!  I haven't even pulled out the lights, much less, gone out and chopped down the tree.  We have forests all around our home, so that has been a major Holiday excursion for many years.  This year, the artificial trees are really starting to look grand!  I wonder how much  the "Fresh Pine" home spray costs, if you get enough for four different rooms?  Can you buy it in the gallon jugs?  Seriously though, it seems as if the more I attempt to get things accomplished when I hurry, the more I have to go back and fix later.  Memo to self:  Slow it down!  It will all get done, just chill (that comes from the oldest DS!)

3.  No co-worker ever died from a lack of homemade goodies!  For the last seven years, I have always flooded our little group of nurses with cookies, cakes and pecan pies, during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.  This year, I have not had the baking bug.  The other day, one of my long-time gal pals at work just happened to mention my lack of attention this year to the community tummy.  That was so NOT a good idea!  Can any one say it with me...bake you own cookies!  Woo hoo, want to see a Southern girl get mad?  Just question her about why she hasn't done something!

4.  Santa does Not have an unlimited budget!  What is with the idea that if you don't spend a thousand dollars on your Christmas budget, you are a Scrooge?  I Love Christmas!  But, guys, get real!  We have to realize that not everyone has that kind of money, and gifts should come from the heart, not the wallet!  If a person searched three hours for the perfect gift, even if it only cost ten dollars, shouldn't that mean more that a fifty dollar gift they took less than five minutes to get? Let's try and remember that we should give of ourselves, with love, not money!

5.  The real reason for the Season.  Everyone knows what it is...If we honor it in everyday, apply it to our lives, and live each day as if it were Christmas, then we will be a blessing to all those who we have been graced to know.

6.  Christmas should be fun!  If we spend so much time trying to outdo our neighbors Christmas light display, buy the perfect gift, and have everything just so...we forget that Christmas, with all of its rushing, can be a happy season, or one of misery.  It is up to us to have some fun, instead of being so wound up in all of the doing!  In that spirit..

Sit down with your kids, watch Rudolph, Frosty, and It's A Wonderful life. Eat some really decadent cookies, drink a little eggnog!  Bet you'll really enjoy it!

                                            Have a wonderful day everybody!

Snakes & Arrows
I'm a huge Rush fan (the Canadian band, not the radio blowhard), so I've just bought and listened to their new album, "Snakes and Arrows".

It's definitely more of the same; Rush stopped trying to prove anything to anyone decades ago.

Pros: All of Peart's educated, smart, thoughtful lyrics are there.  All three musicians still practically define "precision".  The album is cohesive, with a central theme, and powerful visuals to accompany each song.

Cons: It's a dark theme, full of laments for the state of the world.  Songs of hope aren't about breaking through, but about weathering the storm and keeping your head up.  Oh, and Rush still has a strong allergy to hooks.

I don't know how I feel about it yet, I just bought it.
