New Addition to my Collection

My lithium crystal finally got here!  While it isn't the most beautiful rock in my collection, it is certainly one of the most interesting.

Lithium is the chemical element with symbol Li and atomic number 3. In the periodic table, it is located in group 1, among the alkali metals. Lithium in its pure form is a soft, silver white metal, that tarnishes and oxidizes very rapidly in air and water. It is the lightest solid element and is primarily used in heat transfer alloys, in batteries and serves as a component in some drugs known as mood stabilizers.
Lithium Quartz is a super high energy healing and balancing stone. It is said to be self-clearing and self-cleansing, and from my experience with it, I'd say that's correct.

Lithium quartz sends and receives energy as well as storing it. Lithium quartz is balancing and calming, and is used in crystal healing as a natural anti-depressant. Emotionally and other ways, lithium quartz is said to relieve stress, anxiety, and tension, bringing relaxation and peace. It works in a gentle and slow but steady and powerful manner, not causing the discomfort of sudden change that some crystals might at times.

Lithium quartz is excellent for meditaiton and prayer. It is used to heal repressed grief and anger, as well as emotional issues from past lives. It is also said to purify water. Physically, lithium quartz is used in crystal healing for stress related disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, muscular tension, repetitive motion injuries. Lithium quartz is related to activating and balancing all chakras and is handy to work with any individual chakra also.

And You Thought My Rock Collection Was Vast!

(click the picture to read the article)

My friend Crystal (yeah, funny huh) sent me this article on this breathtakingly beautiful crystal cave found near Chihuahua City,  Mexico. This place looks like heaven, but inside this deceptively tranquil cave of Selenite / Gypsum crystals it is a blistering 150 degrees Farenheit with 100% humidity!  I actually have a rather large Selenite crystal that I forgot to take a picture of when I showcased my collection. Selenite is a soft mineral with a Moh scale hardness of about three or four which means you can scratch it with a nail.

Change your life with a bag of rocks
Making no promises, this is my sincere attempt to get back to more faithful blogging habits, hopefully winning back some of my Mindsay friends who have no doubt abandoned this recently desolate blog space.

A couple of weeks ago, I spent the day with a friend from Florida...we drove to the mountains to see some property she had bought on the side of a mountain in NC. Part of our day out included a stop by some manner of local crafts demonstrations at a geological museum. Inside the museum was a large partitioned tray full of rocks for $1 ea. Being a true rock NUT from as far back as I can remember, needless to say, I got one of each…the lot of which now resides in my suede Indian pouch I had bought in Cherokee. Feeding my lifetime fascination with rocks, I’ve prowled around the Internet looking for tidbits about mineralogy, stones, etc. and have been dumbfounded at the amount of information out there, not to mention the marketing of the magical properties of every manner of stone available.

Countless people are making fortunes off selling rocks, many probably no doubt, for much more than they are actually worth. Now I am all about acknowledging many metaphysisical realities. Indeed, it is a proven fact that everything that is possesses an energy of its own. That said, it should be indisputable to anyone with common sense that energies effect one another and interact with one another. And, the child in me must believe that there remains some level of ‘magic’ in this world, whether in a rock, a totem, whatever. Magic, to me, is simply the reality that there are things that are, that transcend the ordinary and mundane. As for me, I simply MUST cling to such elevated beliefs to keep life not only bearable but interesting.

One site sells bags of rock collections called Crystal Empowerment Pouches, each containing a select variety of rocks gathered together for specific purposes…there is a Luck pouch and a Happiness pouch, a Healing pouch and a Love pouch (does that mean you’re going to HAVE love? FEEL love? FIND love?!) – there’s a pouch for Money (I NEED that one!!!!), Protection, Psychic Awareness and Stree (I’ll have 10 of those please…). In other words, you can literally CHANGE YOU LIFE if you carry the proper collection of rocks (just how are you to carry around these bags of rocks without looking like a total weirdo?).

Some of the information on these sites was very informative, in that they included a lot of interesting information on stone formation, chemical and electrical properties, etc. And again, I do not discount that there is some metaphysical information of interest too. But some of these sites took the metaphysical thing to a whole new level…so much so that it almost seemed refreshing to lay the laptop aside and venture forth back into the real world of the Nuthouse Preserve and its imbalance of responsibilities, activities, sacrifice, etc. Of course, I did have my handy dandy bag of rocks with me. Which I figure, if all else fails, I can always throw rocks at any uncooperative offenders and violators of my own inner peace…

Enough Politics: Now For Some Music
Howdy all, I think I'm finally done with all the McCain/Lieberman Iraq posts. I think I got that out of my system, but I can't promise there won't be a relapse since I go crazy over politics.

Anyway, this video is from one of my favorite bands, Belle and Sebastian. Enjoy.
