I'm going out to clean the pasture spring
I'll only stop to rake the leaves away
(And watch the water clear, I may)
I sha'n't be gone long - you come, too.
I'm going out to fetch the little calf
That's standing by the mother. It's so young
It totters when she licks it with her tongue
I sha'n't be gone long - you come, too.

We interpreted it as a commentary on world situations - going out to take care of what needs to be done, an easy thing, a little effort here that makes a difference and makes the water (or the world) good again. A new civilization or society coming into our keeping. It's a little thing to do, it doesn't take long, join me in this.
Now, I don't know how I think of it, precisely. Just that I have something I'm going off to do. In the grand scheme, it won't take long.
I won't be gone long. You come too.
