Cubs Easily Beat Rival Cardinals
The Cubs beat the Cardinals 9-3 yesterday, thanks in large part to pitcher Ted Lilly.  Lilly worked seven solid innings, recorded his 1,000th strikeout and added his second career extra-base hit.  Not bad for a day's work. Smiley

Chiefs Survive Against Raiders

This was an ugly game. It seemed as though neither team wanted to win. There was really no offense to speak of. The Chiefs kicked two field goals in the first half to grab a 6-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, KC was in position to expand their lead after a 54-yard run by Larry Johnson. However, Dave Rayner couldn't connect and the Raiders finally did something on offense.

Daunte Culpepper used some long passes to lead Oakland down the field. He hit Ronald Curry in the end zone to give the Raiders a 7-6 lead. The Chiefs were able to strike back on their next drive. Damon Huard connected with Dwayne Bowe for a 58-yard gain. A few plays later Johnson punched it in for the score. the two-point conversion failed. So, the Chiefs had a 12-7 lead with 11:30 left in the game. The Raiders were able to add a field goal to get within 12-10. KC could do almost nothing with their next possession and had to punt it back to the Raiders.

On a 2nd and 7 with :46 left, Jarrad Page picked off a Culpepper pass to seal the win 12-10. The Chiefs have beaten the Raiders 9 straight times. The Chiefs are 4-3 on the year and are currently in first place.

Larry Johnson had 112 yards rushing with a TD. Jared Allen led the defense with 8 tackles and 2 sacks.

KC has a bye next week and then they will host the Green Bay Packers.

Match Point

What can you do when you have a potential rival, who's more confident, more laidback, more physically attractive, a few years older, and as keen on the girl as you are?

Really, this was inevitable. I had only endured one half of the rejection process, and it was always going to be the second half that hurt more. That bit where she finds someone else.

It's like a knife to the heart. I'm not good enough. He is. He can achieve what I want so much, because he's better than I am. The feelings inside me are a mixture of hurt, jealousy, and resentment.

Flipside: I love her. I want her to be happy. I am unable to provide that happiness - should I be upset because someone else can?

Not really. Rationally, I should accept this. Irrationally, I am unable to.

You know, it could be a good thing. The ambiguity (to a degree) of the situation has contributed to the prolonging of my feelings, long after they should have been abandoned. A finalisation, and this would certainly be one, could serve as a cessation of my anguish.

Of course, there is no certainty that he will have any more luck in his pursuit than I have. However, he has something I never had - a real shot. Whether or not anything comes of it, I have to realise the inevitability of this... it will happen some day, if not with this guy, then with someone else. And, when that happens, I must somehow push my heavy, confused, upset emotions under the surface, and wear a smile on the outside for her.

And meanwhile, I will continue on in my own quest.

Oh White Sox Fans
I found this definition for the word 'scrubs':

sCrUBS

to make it clearer to you:
sCrUBS

*you better feckin' believe I'm a sCrUBS fan <33.  That was meant as an insult and turns out I love it.
I DO talk about things other than baseball, I swear!

Cheering On The Wolverines
Lindsey and I went to the Michigan basketball game yesterday.  They lost to Ohio State, but it was a much closer game than I ever thought it would be.  That was good.  People were crazy since we were playing Ohio State, so it was an especially fun atmosphere.
